Stafford Castle. The Gem in a Town

This 9 hole course (to be played twice from different Tees for 18 holes) is a gem in the centre of Stafford. The course is very well laid out and despite some reservations regarding playing 9 twice regarding queuing on tees, we played the course without any hold ups. The course is kept to a very good standard and we were helped by some friendly staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our eighteen holes and would recommend to others to try it out. Good service and nice menu in the club afterwards.

Nice Course, but Hard to Navigate

Course was really nice, but hard to navigate. As our first time visit, it would have been nice to have a map of the course and where the next hole was. Spent far too much time trying to find where to go, and on one of the holes we couldn't find the blue tee which we were playing off.

A few signs directing you to where the next hole is, wouldn't be hard to add and make the experience almost perfect.

Other than that, the course is in great condition, with semi challenging holes. Fairways need to be found in order to score well at this course.

Good course to open your shoulders

Third time playing this course. Not dissimilar to Stone as a 9 holer with different tee off for the back 9 and just over 6000 yards. Fairways are wide so you can enjoy a good bash off the tee and fairway. Greens were quite quick and all in all its a decent course although not too many hazards if you like that sort of thing.

Great to be back

First game back after Lockdown, thoroughly enjoyable 4 ball. Second time playing here, some minor changes with the trees all cut back on the 18th but this is a really good course with some open fairways for those who like to hit a long drive. Some tricky greens with challenging flag positions, greens in good shape. I played poorly but who cares!

Only 9 holes

Don't be deceived it's only 9 holes played twice from two different tee positions so the card makes it appear your playing 18 different holes but that's not the case

Enjoyable Afternoon

Spent and enjoyable afternoon at the Castle, excellent value for money on twilight rates.

Only downside was being berated by a female golfer in a four ball who resembled Joe Exotic from Tiger King for ‘taking too many shots’.

This was aimed at my friend who was on their first round. I think she needs to remember that everyone has to start somewhere.

Needless to say we let them play through and thankfully didn’t upset her further for any unknown reason.

All in all, an enjoyable afternoon on a budget friendly and well maintained course.

Quality

Great hospitality , the course was excellent on a very hot day the greens I hit which wasn’t many held lovely. The fairways had a true bounce and both myself and my son played under our handicap.Hopitality in the bar and restaurant was second to none. Thanks all looking forward to playing again.

Great little 9 hole

This is a great little course. It’s worth noting this isn’t a typical golf ‘CLUB’. There is no pro shop or reception per se etc however there is a bar and you can have a drink Beforehand.

I think £10 for 9 holes is absolutely perfect for a mid week ‘knock’.

The holes themselves are great and there’re a couple of longer holes which offer more of a challenge.

It’s not the easiest to navigate at first, there are several tee off locations are part of the quirky ‘18 hole’ offering, in reality they don’t offer much difference, it’s more or less playing the same hole twice.

I’d highly recommend, if you understand and take it for what it is.

Interesting course in good condition

Played a twilight round - managed to get round without rushing in about 3 hours. 9 greens with 18 tees but was straight forward to navigate and the tees didn’t seem to cause any bottlenecks at all - maybe when it’s busy. Other golfers playing were friendly and relaxed. Excellent value and a good challenge for 18-20 handicappers which we are. Would definitely play again.
