Quirky little gem
Firstly, we caught some of the very little poor weather we have had so had to stop at hole 12 (conveniently placed outside the clubhouse). The club was kind enough to say they would give us a deal on a return visit.
The pro and the rest of the staff were very welcoming, friendly and informative. The clubhouse and members likewise.
It is heathland style so the ball was running for miles and it made for an interesting challenge. It is very hilly. Two of us shared a buggy, and this was an excellent idea. The one who walked needed respite on most tees.
Careful thinking on every shot is paramount.
Of the holes we played, there was only one I did not particularly enjoy. A long, uphill par 3. My advice is to accept four and play it like that. Otherwise, a tricky layout but much fun to be had. I would advise playing it when in a rich vein of form. Don't bother about the yardage, your score may quickly rattle up if you are not on it.
I am looking forward to playing here again. It is worth travelling for. You will not be disappointed.
Challenging course but brilliant
Course itself is short however the tonnes of elevation make it incredibly challenging. Brilliant conditions and super fast greens
Fantastic Greens
Greens in superb condition for mid April. The general condition of the course was excellent & the views are incredible from some of the elevated tees. A very friendly club with a nice bar with reasonable prices. Would highly recommend & will definitely be back in the summer.
Big elevation changes
I feel harsh giving this a 3 star overall rating for this is a well maintained course with an excellent clubhouse. The staff were very friendly and all the amenities are in good condition. The playability is an issue given the numerous considerable elevation changes. I would highly recommend a buggy for those less keen on a strenuous walk. We did play on a very windy day and it would be good to compare on a calmer day. The views are outstanding.
Weather not the best windy and wet but course held up very well .
a couple of holes closed but told we could play extra holes once finished , pro shop staff very welcoming first time here and absolutely loved it will definitely be coming again , price for the golf brilliant, they have a simulator, loads of things in the pro shops and warm up nets .also some unbelievable views
Enjoyable course with great views!
Not a course for those who don't do hills! Fantastic views, lovely course which is well maintained considering the weather! Found it quite forgiving and nice to play for those who are new, the elevation makes it really enjoyable and challenging at times especially the 16th hole! Roger at the Pro shop has a great setup too with lots of equipment to choose from at a good price.
Different
I enjoyed it. Hit a 325 drive and got an eagle on the 3rd (helped by the steep downhill slope). The downside to that is some massive uphill holes (16/17) but good fun and great price
Gem
Lovely course, very unique but playable for all handicaps.
Great condition
Great course, staff in the clubhouse and pro shop were very friendly & welcoming.
Even though it’s not the longest course you have to be pretty accurate with the small greens which were in amazing condition.. a bit hilly but great views to make up for it.
Stocksbridge- it might surprise you
Might not be your first choice but it give it a go, warm reception, beautifully green course decent prices and friendly faces after the round. What more could you want for£20?
Enjoyed it!
Course in good condition- some parts still a little wet but other than that- no issues. Club pro was helpful. Some stunning views- but be ready for some big inclines on your walk.
