Nice course but very slow play
No one told us there was a seniors' competition on at the time we had booked, also heard staff giving a 4 ball a slot just in front of us when we were told by golfnow that our time was the only available slot
Course was in good condition, conditions were poor, which is no one's fault, but it would be great if the course and golfnow liaised to ensure people are aware when comps are on
Great, but still room for improvement
This is my local course, played here over the last 15 years. Has recently been bought out from LinkgolfUK (previously Sheffield city council) - Can I say in the week they’ve owned it, already vast improvements. Tees and fairways mown and cared for etc.
Greens still need work, not receptive but not because they’re rock hard, just a bit “fairway like”/fluffy. Don’t roll amazingly when putting. However the green complexes they have to work with are amazing, some very very challenging pin positions, sometimes silly if I’m being honest (on literal side slopes). However the greens in general… respectable and definitely playable.
The course as a whole, not overly long (ignoring the par 5 fifth hole) however very challenging and requires good placement of shots, otherwise you will roll off the fairway, be blocked out by trees or be short sided for greens. For the lower handicaps, I would advise playing off white tees, adds a smidge of distance and makes a few holes more interesting as the tee boxes are in different positions.
Higher handicappers will find it tough with some very narrow or daunting tee shots. Driver isn’t always required if you can get your irons away a decent distance.
Overall, very friendly staff, good amenities (academy course and indoor simulator, bar, driving range) and a very good course with much more value to come I feel.

Great course and a great day. I would recommend this course strongly. No easy holes, no difficult holes. Suitable for the low and high handicapper.
almost perfect
this course amazed me if the bunkers had more sand in it would be absolutely fabulous staff very helpful as was pro.it was busy but im not surprised the quality of the course and layout are fab I play off 5 at Helsby and travelled 2 hours to play and was worth every second.Cant wait to revisit many thanks to all at club
