Fabulous Course, Poor Reception
I always enjoy playing this course, it's really well looked after with fabulous Greens and well tended Fairways. With the option of four tees to play from, it is a real challenge, especially off the whites and blues. But, and I said this on my last review of this course, the reception you get has to improve. The Pro Shop/Reception is small but adequate for checking in, but the young assistant Pro (if that's who he was...he looked young) needs to improve his bedside manner. No greeting, not even 'hello', just a check on his computer that we'd paid online and a casual point towards the first tee was all we got. No offer of a scorecard, course planner, location of practice facilities...nothing. This gives a poor first impression of an otherwise fantastic Golf Course and could be the difference between returning to play again...or not.
West Berks Golf
Great value , lots of lovely tree lined holes , fantastic layout. Fairway grass a tad long but overall for the price we paid I don't think you find anything better.
Great day
Rain to start but after 3 holes cleared and had a great round not the golf lol but the course perfect thanks
18 holes
Got pit in middle of a competition, took 3 hours to do 9 holes so walked in. SHOCKING. wanted to complain but pro shop was closed
Friendly welcome lovely course
The lady in Pros shop was so friendly and so helpful. Even checking that I have enough fluids for day: she also let me know where to get scorecards. Changing rooms etc. Lovely welcome. The fairways and greens are in pretty good condition: my only small constructive criticism would be signage at where the 4/5/17 are; as it is quite easy to follow the logical link thinking the 17 is the 5th.. There are two signs but one for the 5th is before the 17th still pointing in that direction. Definitely will play again. Thank you for a lovely afternoon.
A decent knock that's a step above your average muni
Played here on a hot July evening. Pro in the shop was helpful and advised of some interesting bits of routing as I played alone. First 9 pace was slowish as members in front playing comp were in woods and marking 2 footers, but second 9 when they went in (lots to a loop of 11 it seems) was much better - 3.5 hours for 18 holes.
Course in good knick throughout and greens were decent but had seen a lot of play - you can tell they do comps on Wednesdays! Greens themselves were surprisingly soft so a few pitch marks not tended to but not the fault of the course management.
All in all an enjoyable visit and I would absolutely go back - a definite step above tou average municipal. At £25 I thought it was good value.
Absolute gem of a course
1st time playing here and for £23 a round you will not find better value in berkshire.
The fairways were near perfect and the greens were in incredible condition. The rough was challenging but you could usually find your ball. And the overall maturity of the course with its tree lined fairways was great. Will 100% be back here to play.
Fantastic
Great course, challenging for high handicapper but well worth it. Stunning views over Ridgeway and Coombe Gibbet.
Slow play
The course was surprisingly wet and so played quite a bit longer. Our round was negatively impacted by slow play. In fact over the last 3 holes we had the unacceptable situation of a 1 ball holding up a 3 ball and our 2 ball. Why do some players think it’s acceptable to play 4+ hour rounds? They also seem to be the most arrogant!
Fun course
Quite ling off the whites and very playable off the yellows. All clubs in the bag needed. Some proper par 5's. Accuracy off the tee needed and a good challenge for all levels of golfers. A bit out of the way but great value and a really good set up. Will defintely be back. Course in great condition.
