Deceptively challenging
2nd time playing here this year and although relatively short, it's good fun and a decent test of golf. Greens were very good and many of them require the right approach because they are not flat. The front nine plays up and down elevation and is the tougher walk. The course has recovered well after the dry spell although preferred lies are in play due to a few fairways still in recovery. I'd be happy to go back and play again soon.
Enjoyable day!
Nice course, pretty, well maintained and I enjoyed the undulation and speedy greens which were hard to stay on at times. I was paired with another two guys and we had a great social game. The 19th was welcoming also. Would and will definitely play here again.
Lovely course
Love playing here once or twicea year dueto the fact its a lovely layout and genarlly in very good condition. Lots of work going on to make it even better.
A good mix of holes. It starts fairly easy but builds up to some incredibale hard par 4s. Overall you can score but you need to keep it straight.
Superb Course
Superb course. First 4 holes are magnificent as you make your way downhill, but as one of our group said… we are going to have to come back up at some point. Buggy recommended for those that dislike hill, but the course was in excellent condition with fast true greens.
Some beautiful par 3s and really interesting dog legs sprinkled about. Not super long so a lot of fun.
150 years old for a reason
Bottom line - this course has staying power because it’s got a challenging layout and meticulous greens keeping. Don’t let the short distance fool you as this course will test your game.
From tee to green the course was in excellent shape. Tee boxes flat and nice. Fairways were trim. But the greens. Oh the greens. Fabulous. Probably the nicest greens I’ve seen in years and certainly the fastest. Course is walkable with some good elevation changes. Definitely recommend.
Great value for money !!
From the ease of booking with Golf Now to arriving at the course. Everything was exactly as you would expect The welcome in the clubhouse and the breakfast before the round was good value.
We had a tee time of 12.44pm but went into the pro shop to book in to be told we could tee off earlier at 12.20 pm and this was not a problem
Great course with good drainage considering all the bad weather recently.
Our 4 ball really enjoyed our day at Newbury and Crookham
Great course
Good value
And very welcoming even in the 19th hole
We will be back very soon
Many thanks to Newbury and Crookham for a really enjoyable afternoon
The deal on Golf Now was really good value
In Great Condition Considering Recent Weather
The course was in superb condition given recent relentless rainfall everywhere. Many courses still have trolley bans and holes closed yet here there was barely a suggestion of any mud or surface water, even in the rough. Where there was any, it was clearly roped off and easily avoidable. The greens were true and reasonably quick and all bunkers were properly raked giving a reasonable chance to play a decent escape shot. A pleasure to play here again, and great value
I can't wait to play this course again.
We played as a 3 ball, and all for the first time at this course. We were all blown away by the course. The condition of the course was superb. The fairways are excellent, the Tees great, and the greens are amazing. We played in constant wind and rain, and the lower parts of the course got a bit damp understandably, but most of the course withstood the weather (which had been wet for weeks prior) remarkably. The weather didn't dampen our spirits because Newbury and Crookham is that good. We can't wait to play there with leaves on the trees, because this place is a stunner in the winter, and we were informed, by a member on the course, that the course would be 10 times better in April.
Great Course
A great course in very good condition, especially liked bunkers that actually had raked sand in which is unusual after all the rain.
What a course
What a pleasure to have played this course. It might well have been drenched, but left wanting to come back tomorrow. All parts of the game challenged from tee to green. Loved it, my favourite course in the Newbury area so far.
Outstandinh
For this time of year after the frost and wet weather, the course was in fantastic condition, I couldn’t believe how good the greens were.
Gorgeous course with great views across Newbury throughout and some really nice challenging and different holes. I will be back many many times!
Superb Greens
Got a hot deal at a bargain rate of £22. For this time of year and with the amount of rain there has been, course was in excellent condition and the greens were top notch.
Course celebrating its 150th year, one of the oldest around. General rule of thumb the older the course the higher the standard, Very true in respect of Newbury & Crookham.
Round of golf with three complete strangers.
Tee off time 1.40pm
Teed off and quite quickly got friendly with the three guys who were booked to play like me all first timers on this layout. It’s not a long course, thankfully for me at 71 but a good test of golfing skills nether the less. It’s a very scenic walk with lots of undulating fairways . The par three’s I would say are the stand out features of the layout . Definitely will pay another visit when the A34 is quieter as I live near Oxford.
Great front 9
The green were fast but to hard, we could get anything to hold. Rough was thick and nasty
Superb!
I've played here as a visitor four times within the last year. Admittedly being lucky enough to get the Golf Now hot deal for £20 before the price goes up helps when reviewing a course. Even still, the description of here being 'wonderful' is absolutely spot on. It's a lovely course and a overall a nice place. Immaculate tee boxes and greens, some awesome holes, lush fairways, friendly and welcoming staff and members, and good facilities. Honestly cannot think of anything bad to say! Just a shame I live around 45 mins away. If I was closer I'd definitely play here more regularly and wouldn't be against paying more than the bargain hot deal prices. I'll be playing here again in the future, for sure. Thank you to everyone involved with your club for the positive experiences so far
