Good course, close to Newbury
Good course, close to Newbury. The course is a very long walk.
Many use buggies. But, if your reasonable fit, it's worth the effort.
My own handicap is 14.8, on MY EG. Off the yellows, I was given two additional shots.
The course is testy.
Great but challenging
Stunning course with great views and friendly members! A tough and challenging course but worth every penny
Great condition
The course and greens was in great condition. It’s a long and tricky course which gives you a good test, especially the bunkers which are well placed.
Recommend a buggy for those who don’t like a walk but great challenge.
Testing Course
The course was in great condition. It’s fairly long with challenging holes and well placed bunkers to catch you out. Staff very helpful and friendly.
Recommend using a buggy for those who don’t like a good walk.
Good value.
Excellent venue, outstanding staff
It is a great venue—very beautiful with a wonderful atmosphere. All the staff provide exceptional service and assist in every aspect. I will definitely come back, and I encourage everyone to come and play here.❤️❤️
Great summer course
Played here during the summer and would definitely rate as a 5* course all round.
Played yesterday , the weather has been mildly wet but the course was just terrible underfoot , slippery and definitely carry only as electric trolley just kept sliding .
Not recommended in the wet.
Muddy Boxing Day
The tee boxes and the greens were immaculate however the fairways were extremely muddy. I expect the course plays beautiful in the summer but would definitely not recommend in the winter when it is wet
Xmas golf
Wet and muddy but what can you expect with such a wet winter. Greens in good condition. Round on 4 hours with no hold ups.it is an attractive course with varied holes
Great course but a muddy walk!
My son and I love playing Donnington Grove - we are cheap-skates and therefore go the Golf Now route and on this occasion, whilst we enjoyed the golf, it was hard work and not just a buggy no-no but also a trolley nightmare! We slipped and slid our way around, casual water all over the place and our pull or rather push trolleys invariably became clogged up with mud and I must say that by the end, I was shattered! Good exercise though.
However, the weather was perfect, we went round in under 4hrs and the greens were superb. Everything looked good and apart from the walk to the 2nd and to the 9th, the course layout is terrific and the views are wonderful.
I will avoid playing the course in the winter from now on and I think rather play those courses on chalk or chalk and flint based ground. We will however be back in the summer - it has a very relaxed atmosphere, is challenging enough and not desperately crowded.
Excellent condition for the time of year
Always a challenge but after playing many local courses over the last couple of months then this is probably the best condition. Tee, greens and bunkers all in great nick. Couple of fairways a little muddy but honestly the rest were really good.....for the time of the year.
Played Drayton (Abingdon) a few weeks ago and both are the same price. Drayton was totally awful, we will go back to Donnington Grove
Great course, good condition
Great course, in really good condition for a hotel/resort course even after a mornings deluge of rain it had drained really well. As per other reviews, expect a couple of long-ish walks from from Green to tee, but it’s not the end of the world unless you’re in a hurry. Thoroughly enjoyable test with some decent length challenging par 4s and 5s. It’s not all driver/wedge and each hole is different. I’ll come back and play it again.
Avoid this course
Played two rounds here as part of a Golfbreaks package, we were 42 mins late for tee off and round one due to a slow competition before us.
There were about 7 parties stacked up before us(i get that these things happen but it would have been nice to know so we could have chosen a better tee time).
Day two was also a very slow day and we did not get to finish our round due to the night closing i, we managed 12 holes in over 6 hours which we can get over.....what we cannot get over is the lack of ownership from the club, we complained to the third party booking company and Donnington denied it and made remarks about us "wanting a freebie".
The course is actually pretty decent and the greens are great, but the club is trying to squeeze too many golfers in and they have a very poor attitude, if they had owned up and apologised we may have returned.
