Great value - course needs some work
First things first £14 for 18 holes of golf is an absolute bargain - so no complaints there at all. I'll definitely be returning for that alone coupled with its proximity to Newbury. As for the course itself it's a mixed bag. With recent rain I'd expected greens to be slow - but you absolutely need to hammer your putts. And the numerous bare patches (now caked mud) on various greens make it a lottery - caused by disease I'm guessing? Tee boxes a touch tired and the bunkers littered with stones (some of the worst I've seen) - also more like building sand rather than something you'd like your sand wedge to meet.Fairways in OK nick and rough is very mild (after a recent trip to the links of Northumberland that was a relief!). Consistent distant markers appreciated - as is use of different coloured flags to indicate pin position. Pace of pace good considering 4 balls ahead - other clubs take note! Much longer front 9 than back 9 and just a moderate challenge from the yellow tees. Overall an ideal location for a good value practice round with easy walking - just a bit uninspiring (couldn't name you a stand-out hole).
Long, narrow so rewarded being straight
Excellent condition. Some great surrounding vistas, so a pleasure to play. A long and narrow course, but you can play out if in the trees. Will be back
A good challenging course , with tree lined fairways
This is a friendly club , with good facilities. The the tree lined fairways are well kept and offer a good mixture of short par 3’s and more challenging long par 5’s at a competitive price. The course signage could be improved to assist navigation between holes for new visitors. Will visit again.
Not Bad For The Money
Played here as was equidistant between me and a mate. Was £14 a head for 18 holes. The course is quite challenging, very long off the tips, and with very tight fairways in parts. Some holes were beautifully maintained, some were a bit of a mess, especially the greens and bunkers (we self-designated these as GUR as they were like playing out of a pebble beach). It's not a particularly inventive layout. The 12th is an amazing short Par 4, with outstanding views. It wasn't busy so me and my mate played it again! All in all, not too bad, but you get what you pay for.
In Tough Times This Was Wonderful
A lovely course amid difficult moments in life. Three of us played and were all able to forget the current problems in the world and enjoy a nice round of golf. The course was differing but well kempt. Long and short holes it was well set out with picturesque views of West Berkshire that lifted the heart and cheered us all up. Thanks guys - keep going you're doing a grand job.
Great Course
This course is one of the best in the area and such great value for money. Played a number of times and the course has been in fantastic condition every single time.
Well worth a visit.
39 points
I played off of 18 some challenging holes and a nice pace on the greens too scored 39 points. And managed to take some money off my mate too
Happy days
Will be plating again soon
Enchanting course that is kept to a high standard in the middle of the Berkshire countryside away from every inconvenience that everyday life throws at you.
As the title of the review says, I will be playing again and that I shall
long
v good condition rough sometimes was really rough after 1st cut....its a long course so need to prepared -# however there is a hut after 9 holes - for a rest. would do it again but defo. when not too hot and would come prepare ................
but was enjoyable
Good Value on Tee Times
Course very well kept, good for this early in year.
Members very friendly which is not always the case as visitors to other courses.
Great Layout
On arrival my Golf Now Tee Time was missing?? The Pro shop rep (Sue) assured me it was not an issue, set me up ready to go behind a 2 Ball, scorecard, course map just everything that would be needed. The pace of lay was great 3 & 1/2 hrs the 2 ball were in a buggy and they were not slow. The greens were very good for the time of year, there were some swampy areas but these were easily avoidable. There are a few dog leg left which suited my draw but will give a slicer some trouble. At the end of the round Sue & I resolved the Tee Time issue.
Great all round experience.
