Challenging course
A challenging course with a lot of tree’s lining the fairways. Front 9 was harder than the back 9 but both were challenging.
Greens were slow in pace, many of them two tiered.
Well worth the money at £22 on Friday afternoon work round.
Theydon bois great course
Went to play Theydon Bois a week ago was brilliant from start to finish excellent service in the pro shop very helpful the members made us feel very welcome who we met before playing and the course was very interesting and fun. The food was very good in the club house and will be back again soon for another round would thoroughly recommend this course 5 star.
Lovely course
We really enjoyed playing this course it is in great condition, very good test of short game as holes aren’t too long but greens are quite tricky!
Everyone was really friendly and welcoming … we hope to visit again one day
Different
Greens were in excellent condition 30th May 2025. Fairways and Tee off areas were standard. A picturesque parkland course winding through Epping Forest. Despite its length (lack of), the course demands careful club selection. You will NOT be able to let leash with your driver. Personally, this doesn’t appeal to me, but the course is interesting and well maintained and represents good value. Staff as always, very friendly. Slow play on the day put down to Junior Comp ahead and tee shots running into the trees which frame the fairways. Expect dodgy bounces. I called it Theydon Boing!!
Absolute gem
First time here , was a little worried due to the yardage however this place is incredible
Don’t let the yardage put you off
We played off the whites
I Play off 7.8
The condition was excellent
The layout was tremendous
You really only need a driver on 2 holes , the rest an iron or 3 wood
Overall a fantastic place and I will be returning soon
Pencil Fairways and Water slide greens
If you like narrow and trees in your way this is the course for you.
I’ve never been on a golf course which is trying to win garden of the year on the fairway…….
If you look inconsistent greens this is also the course for you. Oh and don’t forget the bumps like a Belgian waffle.
Enjoy!
Nice course
We've played at Theydon quite a few times over the last few years and it's a nice enough track. Still a little muddy underfoot but that's to be expected as it's built on clay, its definitely a summer course.
Only other moot points are that the kitchen doesn't open early enough to grab a bacon buttie before an 11am tee slot and we weren't advised about the state of the greens when booking, they'd been hollow tined recently and not sanded very well, as one of my playing partners commented it was like putting on a Belgium waffle. 🥴
I know this work needs to be done but a warning would have been nice as we could have left it a week and played on their usual lovely putting surfaces.
All in all a nice course.
Fantastic course
Extremely well maintained, loved how all around the greens were well protected all the way round and roped off. Greens in great condition for this time of year. All round great value for money and enjoyable course to play. Will definitely be back.
Great course
Very nice course, they were working on a few holes when we went (2 holes shut) and we weren't told before despite making a phone booking which annoyed me a bit but other than that a nice course
Enjoyable
6 hcap golfer. Played on 30th December. Winter tees small but in decent condition. Fairways were surprisingly good. Drainage was also good with obvious wet/boggy patches. It’s Winter and it’s England! Not much roll out obviously, but that’s a good thing on a short tight course. Greens were also surprisingly good to very good in places. As a low handicap golfer, greens are everything. Very receptive and ran true. Always a shame when lazy people don’t have the respect or tenacity to repair pitch marks, given the effort put into bringing this course to such an enjoyable condition for Essex clay during Winter. I hooked up with 2 really nice guys (Will and Chris) and we had a really nice round. John (Reeder? Manager?) was very accommodating getting me on. Thank you.
A hidden gem
What a fantastic golf course.
You look at the yardage and think it will be easy.
You have to pick the correct club and hit the right area.
Really makes you concentrate.
Good selection in a very friendly clubhouse after.
We will be back.
Theydon Bois Golf Club
This is a little hidden jem , the course is not too long but hole hole are challenging. There is a lot of dogs left and rights. the greens are true but tricky to read. this course is well looked after the members are nice and friendly. The club house has a good selection of drinks and it has a outside decking area to sit as well
