Great greens
The greens were in excellent condition and as quick as any i've played recently. The fairways were also very good.Clearer yardage markers would help.Generally despite the course lacking any standout holes it is clear work is being done to add more features to it.Good value.
Enjoyable round
There’s some work going on the course but it’s in good shape, challenging holes for most golfers & friendly staff.
Would recommend
Great course with plenty of challenges
Not played there for a long while, but was really impressed with the whole place, friendly staff even in covid times, the course was in great condition, every hole had its own challenge which made for a great morning of golf, i will definitely be back soon
Enjoyable days golf at Wergs
An interesting layout overall, where position rather than length paramount off the tee on several holes. Plenty of natural hazards. Greens in good condition overall, but very flat and a little boring.
First cut off the fairways non existent, just rough, which slowed down play searching.
Great value for money through the Golf Now App. A very pleasant day.
Excellent
I will play the course on a regular basis course well looked after the staff very helpful and friendly
A developing but enjoyable course
I’ve played here for many years and what they are doing with this course is commendable. There was one temp (complete re-lay of a green with a new revetted bunker) and one new green which was understandably a bit bobbly still. However they are constantly working on the course (hole 7 has a brand new teeing area).
The course is quite long with some tough holes (16 is Hard!) so you need to be hitting it well. Avoid the water and you will usually find your ball however wild you are. (Some holes have OOB left).
It is good value for money and will be 5* from me when the temp has gone and the new green matches the others.
A nice course which is on the up.
Wow
Lovely course staff were fab and a good club atmosphere can’t wait to replay
Wergs
Had a nice quiet round. Not many on course, so a good steady round. Course was in reasonable condition, 2nd hole has temp green. Only criticism are the bunkers, looks like they haven't been racked for ages, as weeds growing in them. Not really playable, lucky managed to avoid most of them. Other than that a good day.
Cracking Course
I live very close to Wergs but never played it. That will change. Lots to think about on every hole, bunkers in play, water hazards etc. The trees that line the fairway are immaculate and beautiful but it's good because the rough isn't super thick if you go slight off the fairway you're not blocked out or a lost ball.
Decent day out
Played 18holes here on 20.8.20, with a friend who had never played an 18hole course before. I have played here a few times and always found it to be fair and usually in a decent condition, so a good choice to get him started.
We were greeted well when we arrived and had a few putts on the putting green which had been cut and was rolling nicely. There was also a practice net so we could have a loosen up. There is now a driving range too, which had been added since I was last there, but we didn't use it.
Unfortunately, the hot tee time we were given was immediately after a seniors match, which meant the pace of play was extremely slow. The final group were very courteous though and asked us to play through, but we didn't as there were several matches in front of them. They even apologised at the end, which shows what class members they have at The wergs.
The course itself, was in a decent condition, not too bad, but not good. There was clearly a some major work being carried out and this meant it looked scruffy in places. Plus we had had torrential rain the night before, so the greens were wet and were average at best. They are usually much better.
The tees were fine, fairways long but okay, but the bunkers were shoddy. I didn't manage to find one, but they needed some work.
The layout of the course is good and there are opportunities to use all of the clubs in your bag. There is plenty of water so you have to think about your shots and it is a tough enough test that low handicappers will have to plot their way around it, but new or high handicap golfers can manage to get around without losing too many balls.
The conifer lined fairways aren't too everyone's cup of tea, but they don't bother me. There are some good holes too: On the front 9: the tee shots at 3 and 4 are good. 6 is a strong par 4, and 8 is a fun hole. On the back 9, your 2nd into 10 requires a good shot, and the signature hole 12, is always a test, but a fun little hole. The split fairway 17 is unusual, and fun, and 18 is a great hole: very tough uphill finish to a smallish green.
So overall, it is clear the course is having an overhaul and I'm sure it will be fantastic when it is all done, but on this occasion £20 for 18 was a fair price, for a fair track.
I will definitely playThe Wergs again, but not in the immediate future. It's a good course for anyone wanting to upgrade from their 9 hole course or local municipal.
Very average
I have wanted to play here for a while and had high hopes but to be honest, it is bang average.
Flat as a pancake, little imagination on the holes but is in decent condition just very boring.
I think it could be made into a great course but I guess it would need some fresh eyes?
It’s ok, if you can’t get elsewhere then give it a go but it’s down my list I’m afraid.
Temp greens again
Played twice now and temp greens both times definitely wouldn't pay £27 to play on the weekend. Big course with lots of rough space in-between fairways.
Pleasant staff in the clubhouse! 18th green is a bit dodgy as if you're 10 yards long your ball is in the car park.
18 hole
Enjoyed the layout of the course and a good variation of holes. What was annoying was the amount of construction going on around the course, along with the grounds men rallying around on the quads. This was quite off putting and irritating.
