Windy Werneth Low
Played in very windy but thankfully sunny weather. It’s only the second time I have played there and really enjoyed the experience. Rough is not punishing, fairways generous but sloping and greens in good condition. Although it is only an eleven hole course there are some interesting additional tee positioning to enable you to play a full round of golf. The views are spectacular across the Peak District. The club has a very relaxed approach making you feel very welcome. Played with my grandson who has already decided to return.
Ok but wouldn’t play again
The course was in good condition, there were a few fuzzy greens but they rolled decent.
The main issue was the course layout and the fact that we were waiting a lot through the first 8 or so holes.
There were a few holes where in order to get to the next tee box you were literally walking across another hole. Additionally a few holes could do with bells so that you can let people know you’re clearly of the green.
We also spent an unnecessary amount of time trying to work out where some of the tee boxes were as there weren’t enough signs.
The course could also do with having additional markers to show you the ideal line, as there are a number of blind tee shots uphill, which ordinarily is fine, but with the severity of the hills and the hole layout, we found it confusing.
Despite the negativity, the staff were really friendly, and the course was in really good condition, a few improvements could drastically improve the playing experience!
WLGC
Course was in good nick in general. A few area under repair and a couple of greens looking rough around the edges.
11 Hole Circuit
Course is OK. Lots of blind tee off shots and the fairways run quite fast due to the slopes. Greens are average, and the signage could do with a little more improvement. Worst element is that hole 12-18 are a near replica of the first 6, so a bottle neck is caused at hole 1/12 once you get round to it. I gave up at this point as there were a couple of groups waiting to go. Not sure it’s worth the green fees at £30 for that part alone. Would play again if green fees reflected the number of holes. Overall a very average course. Just wish there was a full 18 holes.
Bad day
Course was in ok condition which is definitely playable the thing that put us off and didn’t complete the 18 was down to pace of play there was 2 or 3 groups in front of us all messing around taking ages on every hole 20 mins on some having us wait about and no respect for other ppl bad day out completely spoilt by ppl who must no how to play the game I’m new to playing but my god it was bad
Wouldn’t go back
They don’t have enough trolleys to borrow, which I have never seen before.
Players playing were loud, didn’t call out when hitting ball next to you.
Only one par 5 and quite long par 4s.
11 holes only
Heart Attack Hill
Terrible course with very little signage to direct you where the next tee is. The course itself is like playing on the side of a mountain. The first course I didn’t know where to find the next hole and there was no about to get a score from.
Great course & views, poor signage
Overall the course is a great 11 hole hybrid 18.
Hills for days, but this is part of the fun!
There needs to be some more clear signs guiding where you need to go/hit towards
Well maintained course but badly signposted
Without a buggy, very exhausting course, many greens hidden beyond hills, dreadful tee locations not even numbered nor the flags causing confusion, nobody manning the clubhouse, some bunkers under water. Definitely needs larger plan of course layout to aid tee location. Best bits being outstanding views and breathtaking scenery and affordability.
Exceptional views!
A really lovely course! The views in all directions are absolutely stunning! Holes 8-11 particularly spectacular. Members very welcoming and friendly. The greens were very true and fairways in good condition. Slightly unusual layout, just 11 holes (12 greens) so 6 or 7 holes are repeated to make 18 but looks like they may be working to rectify this (there was another new par 3 which wasn't open the day I played). Pace of play was as expected for a Sat morning (and I was lucky to get a tee time - I only booked less 24hrs before, as didn't know I was going be in the area). But for the views alone, this has to be a 5 star course and highly recommended!
Good course - Could do with scorecards
Have played a couple of times which was handy as signage non existent in part of it. Clubhouse was shut when we played and no scorecards available (maybe a box outside might help) so nothing to show SI or par on 4 of the holes which was frustrating. However the course itself is pretty well maintained and challenging which is good. Hardly anyone else on the course so no problems with slow play etc. Would recommend especially if above improvements could be made
Superb golf with magnificent views
Had a brilliant round at Werneth Low. The course is probably averagely challenging, but beautiful and in really good condition. The 11 holes are really varied and the views are unbelievable.
Best one in some time - thanks to all the staff there 🍻
Views for miles
What a morning, sun was out and course was firm so well played to Chris and the ground staff.
Great course, and views of Manchester and surrounding areas you just won’t match. Yes lots of hills are you can imagine, buggy’s flying round in November will tell you something about how well maintained it is.
We will be regular as I can.
Wonderful views from moat holes.
All things considered fir the time of year the course was very good. The greens were tip top . Semi ruffcwas a bit long but understandable due to the very wet weather.
