Not for the faint hearted
I played this course on 26/08/24...
All started good on arrival course looked in excellent condition and only £15 for 18 holes...
BUT I've never played a golf course so with so steep uphill & downhill fairways....
The 3rd hole must be 300 yards uphill at a 60 degree climb (if your not healthy you won't make it lol)
The front 9 holes really are tiring on your calfs and a buggy is a must (but we're all booked out).
Course in general had some cracking tee off shots and scenery on front 9 was amazing....
Back 9 the course is flat and greens were decent all 18 holes!
Due to the course only costing £15pp it did have alot of beginners on but speed of play was ok 👍
I would only return if a buggy was available the steep hills have certainly put me off.
Overall 6/10
Back after 58 years
I was keen to play the 9 holes which were my first years of golf as an 8 year old. The course was in great condition and there had been various improvements, especially the 2nd. More scenic as a result of trees being very well established. Hiring an electric cart was a great idea, especially for the 3rd. It's a shame the 1st and 9th still share a fairway, which must be tricky when busy. We teed off at 7:45 so no problem playing the 1st and not too bed playing the 9th.
Great price, course in good condition
Lovely round of golf. Course in good condition, friendly staff and great food after as well 👍👍😊😊
game of 2 halves
Found playing this course quite a challenge. Good job I didn't try and carry my clubs.
Right from arriving, staff terrific to me.
On my hols , so playing was a 1 off.
7 elevated tees on the front 9 I loved, but you had to be so accurate with some of you drives.
I loved the challenge.
Different sort of challenge on back 9 , but again accuracy and length required on some approaches.
Lovely first 9 then…
Westwood is a really good challenge and the first nine are fabulous. Unfortunately when I got to the second bone which is flat and parkland like I ran up against three members who just refused to let me through. I stood behind their tee as they lumped it 70 years from 10 all the way to 18. Made it a very frustrating and disturbing finish. Do they know about etiquette??!
Tough but enjoyable
Very well looked after. Front 9 is very strenuous with very steep hills throughout. Back 9 very flat and a lot more simple. A few crossovers and you use the same fairway for 16 and 17. Overall, it’s a lovely course, scenic and very well maintained but bring your hiking gear for hole 3.
Westwood Golf Club
Having played this course several times, I have returned in order to attempt to par the third hole known as (The Alps). A very challenging hole of which I have only managed to bogey each time I play it so on this attempt I was desperate to par or better it. Well as you can guess after all my intentions I walked off with bogey again, I will be back!
All in all a very challenging course on the front nine with some amazing views once you reach the top & playing the 5th par 5 which is stunning. Then once you get to the back nine a totally different course, it is definitely a course of two halves. Again on the back nine some long holes very flat with some challenges to look out for. I always enjoy this course & once finished there is a club house with some great deals on food wise with a selection of refreshments (alcohol) at the bar.
Friendly & sunny club
The course was beautifully kept and very sunny aspect. Also friendly reception in the clubhouse
Bit grim
To be fair the weather has been poor but to be greeted the way I was gave a very negative first impression. I didn't enjoy being told half the course was shut and I would have to use a course mat .
The third hole is on a very steep hill I wasn't going to do it twice so I went home after nine. A grim experience all round
That will teach me to check the course info before booking
Frosty Reception
Played Leek Westwood today, when arriving at the course I went into the pro shop to booking in, the reception was so frosty and unwelcoming, felt like I’d walked into a private club naked.
The course was only half open that they only let us know when booking in, they did tell use we could play the front nine twice.
The course was in as good a condition as you’d expect for the time of year and rain that we’d had, there was a mixture winter tees and normal tees and one winter green, and mats had to be used on the fairways.
The pace of play was okay as a two ball we weee behind a 4-ball and did have to wait to play a couple of shots.
The third hole at Westwood amazes me a short par 4 but such a steep incline, will test the fitness of any golfer playing here.
Mountain goat
The course is in very good condition even though we have had a week of rain . The front 9 holes you need to be a mountain goat it’s all uphill then down and over valleys.
They have got so artificial grass stuff down as wake ways my mate went straight over while walking down the 7 very lucky not to be hurt . Greens was fast and true . After the front 8 it’s all nice and flat a with the river running down the side of a few holes . You need to be pretty fit to play this course
Challenging front 9, but very enjoyable. Groundskeepers are very friendly. Back 9 is definitely suitable for those who want a more relaxed experience.
Beautiful and well maintained
Only been playing about 6 months, been to roughly 10 courses and this is the best by far! Brought 5 friends all individually all experienced golfers and they were really impressed! They've all been back.
My calf’s were burning
Decent track tbf, that first nine ouch, be prepared for a bit of a trek. The fairways and greens are pretty good and pace of play was good too. Played on bank holiday Monday for a tenner best value round I’ve ever played. Members and staff very friendly, I will return……… with a buggy.
Incredible condition
Haven't played Westwood for a few years as my ability to walk the steeply graded first 9 has long diminished. Went yesterday with the aid of a buggy and thoroughly enjoyed the day. I have not seen a course so meticulously kept for years. Congrats to the greenkeeping staff. The standard of my golf failed to match. Am not one for reviews but couldn't fail to comment. Give Westwood a go.
Game of 2 halves!
Hadn't played Westwood for over a decade, seeing the deal for £10 for 18 holes it had to be done. Course was better than i remember, hills were steeper also. Really enjoyed the game. The back nine being so flat makes up for the hilly front nine. Every part of my game was tested. Will definitely be back.
Challenge and reward
Two in one style course really challenging front nine with slopes and valleys and rolling fairways which really make you think and the tree lined rough will punish any errant shots that go wide.
Back nine is open parkland style which really reward those who are long off the tee with flat wide fairways
