Excellent course with some testing holes.
Having only recently taken up golf I'm attempting some courses which test me a little more. I managed to get the round for £10 which was a fantastic bargain.
The course didn't dissapoint and I will definitely be going again. Thanks Westwood.
A round of two halves
This course has two distinctive sets of nine holes , the first nine winds around a the hillside , there are four or five stunning looking holes 1 , 2 , 7 , 8, 9 , .
The 3 , 4 are just wide open to a blind green , the 5 , 6 are the reason I would not recommend this course to a friend- it is a really tough test of golf that can completely destroy your game for a small margin of error .
The back nine is traditional parkland with a winding river / ditches / tree lined fairways , I enjoyed the back nine , physically it wasn’t as demanding , but still requires accuracy of the tee and some really well hidden greens .
The condition of the course , really was a credit to the green keeper, the fairways were a joy to play off when the ball held on them ( 5 , 6 ) , the greens ran true and the ball held ,were pretty much the same across the board . I can’t comment on all the bunkers , but the two I went into were ok .
Overall this is a really good test of golf , some of the holes might be easier to play in the spring / autumn when the ground conditions are a bit softer .
Overall I will probably not return.
Course of two halves
Westwood Golf Club provides a great challenge to all golfers, split into two nines by the topography of the course, the front 9 being hilly with holes set on the bankside. Really good challenge with the par 5 being extremely difficult due to the contours of the land. The back 9 in contrast is as flat as can be, with the River Churnet providing the most challenges. The extremes of this course make it a great challenge. Well worth a visit. Greens in good condition with a slow to medium rating, fairways in good condition, The only downside is we were not allowed to play the white tees.
Great Day Out
Course is in great condition at the moment. The front 9 holes are a challenge for high handicaps and the 3rd hole is a challenge for mountain goats, what a trek up the hill. But great fun. The back 9 are all on the flat and pretty straight forward really. Overall a really nice course with two different challenges for the front and back 9s.
The only let down is that a couple of the fairways are shared which can hold up play.
Definitely play there again.
Great value and challenging course
Good course, great value , some very challenging holes and good opportunities to test yourself
Highly Recommended
Being a mid Handicap Player, was lower, but age and health has dictated otherwise, and have played many courses at home and abroad, but am always eager to try a Course that I have never played before. My friend lives in the Worcester area and I live in Chester, so I tried to get somewhere equidistant for both of us travelling. I have to say I was most impressed as was my mate, at the condition of the course, the layout (a real decent challenge) and we were both pleasantly surprised at how friendly everyone was both with Players and in the Pro Shop. We managed to get a Buggy and being bad on my legs was so glad we did, especially on the hilly first nine. My only criticism, which I hope is more of a constructive one, is that navigation between holes, which are nor clearly indicated is a bit perplexing for a Visitor. WE were playing it for the first time and several lady player visitors were asking us where is next Tee ? Apart from that small point I will definitely go back in the not too distant future, the Catering and Bar Staff were very friendly and accommodating too !
A course with two different nines a great challenge
Our first visit .. and for our party of 6 all said course was good challenged us all with our wide range of handicaps
Course in good content staff and members friendly and helpful. Shame the weather was not as good .
But all said would play against great value for money
Course of 2 half's
This is a course of 2 half, hilly front nine, but flat back nine with water hazards and steams. The climb from 3rd tee up the fairway to the green is not for the faint hearted but worth it. Even though we started in heavy rain for the first few holes the course played very well. It's definitely a course I'd like to challenge yet again. Staff were all welcoming and helpful. I would recommend this course, challenging to all handicaps.
A course of two half !!
Very enjoyable round around of two halfs the first half full of different challenges set in beautiful countryside with great views all round, dropping down on the 8th with a narrow fairway tree lined one side and then flattening out from 9 onwards members really friendly and helpful and pro shop helpful and friendly,A good round on a nice course will return !!
Fastlane
Shared fairways seems like a really silly idea also could be quite dangerous when the course is busy. First 9 are really challengeing but the back nine are quite the opposite and really flat on the whole.
