Great course but needs work!
Wokefield Park has the makings of a great course but was let down by the conditions of the greens and fairways. The layout is excellent with some really interesting holes that challenge you to think about your tee shot. However the fairways were in pretty average condition, the bunkers were not raked (twice I had to play out of divot within the bunker). Greens were quick and challenging, tee boxes were a bit bare and lumpy underfoot. I guess it suffers from a lack of footfall which is a pity as it has all the makings of a great course but needs more care and attention.
Clemmy
Shame as overall course was good but greens were very poor patchy and slow
Poor current conditions
Normally reasonably consistent at this time of year but overall course condition was poor. Greens were patchy and therefore inconsistent, Tees hit and miss with some very parched. Overall needs some TLC.
Well designed course
Good layout, but greens let it down (in poor condition).
Decent championship course
Played on bank holiday Monday. Had a real championship feel about the course. The staff were very friendly in the pro shop. Starter welcoming on the first tee who was then out in a buggy hurrying a painfully slow group in front of us. Course has struggled with the rain greens had been done and fairways not long cut. That said was still great golfing experience and would come back in a few weeks time this will be mint!!!!!
Nice Course, Brutal Pace of play
Have played this course a lot. The pace of play is just getting worse and worse unfortunately. Not really sure what they can do to help it, but having either a starter or Marshall would help. It’s steadily increased and was well in excess of 6 hours on the last time out. I don’t even mind long rounds, but given that it’s a very forgiving course and not too difficult, almost all of the time spent is just waiting to hit. If you can get our first or very early, it’s very enjoyable. Anything past 9am and you’re looking at 5.5+ hours. The guys who work in the pro shop just said that’s the expected pace now.
Course closed
I phoned hotel in evening before the 12th to be told course is closed no one has contacted me no refund no contact very poor when money has been paid from both golf now and club.
Great course, long but fun
Playing in January is always hard, but this course was in great condition for the time of year.
Lots of interesting holes and challenging too, very good for all different handicaps, my four ball ranged from 12 up to 26.
Pro shop staff very friendly and accommodating and lovely grounds and facilities.
Would definitely play again.
Amazing course in good condition for the time of year. Great facilities off the course and friendly atmosphere
Standards dropping....
I have not played here in over 12 months due to the last year of play being rained off for about 3 months over 2024 - early 2025, I have always enjoyed this course but yesterday the manner of the staff was pretty poor, not informed of no post round facilities (I quote the hotel is shut) not a huge issue but nice to finish off the round with a pint and some food, the course played well and only black tees in play, condition of the course was good for this time of the year and green keepers were out and about, what did annoy was the amount of people just swanning around as opposed to playing at pace, took us 4:30 to get round as a 4 ball, again not terrible but this happens pretty much every time I play at this course. certainly better than the last time I played here but pro shop was empty of snacks and drinks if we had wanted any, the island green par 3 was 90 yards shorter as the original tee box has not been renewed, and yesterday the hole only played 90 yards, pretty pointless, some of the length of the holes were shortened and again I appreciate new growth and letting the grass come through but the course needs to be challenging, in summary a good course but has so much more potential. Dont let this put you off have a go and see for yourself :)
Great challenging course
Played today and have to say the course was in great condition for the time of year and is a great test
Great value
For £25 great value course in good condition fair test
Steady round
Today’s round was played in nice autumn weather with light winds. The course was in good condition, the greens were fine but not amazing. I found sand on so many drives today which indicates the placement of bunkers is very good.
On the whole not a bad round but not an easy course.
I like it as it’s parkland and quite long and challenging but a lovely walk too.
Much better than expected
The reviews are mixed, with harsh criticism particularly this year on Google, however I was genuinely surprised by the condition of the course and how well it played. There are a few really short sharp doglegs which don’t sit well on the eye, balanced with some longer fun risk / reward holes across the round. For £25 it felt like a steal.
Course in good condition
Nice course, they’ve used the space very well. Course was in a good condition and greens still had a bit of pace even at 7am.
The course lay out wasn’t the most challenging as there was a series of pretty straight forward drive-able par 4’s. That being said it was very enjoyable and I would play there again.
