Much better than expected
The reviews are mixed, with harsh criticism particularly this year on Google, however I was genuinely surprised by the condition of the course and how well it played. There are a few really short sharp doglegs which don’t sit well on the eye, balanced with some longer fun risk / reward holes across the round. For £25 it felt like a steal.
Course in good condition
Nice course, they’ve used the space very well. Course was in a good condition and greens still had a bit of pace even at 7am.
The course lay out wasn’t the most challenging as there was a series of pretty straight forward drive-able par 4’s. That being said it was very enjoyable and I would play there again.
Wokefield Park
A solid course in decent condition with good value for money. Fairways and greens were well maintained, and the overall experience was very enjoyable.
Great Layout but poor condition
I really enjoyed the round of golf on a challenging course, however the conditions were not that great. I realise that this summer has been exceptionally hot and dry but I was surprised that the course didn’t have any water systems. Whilst it is usual for the fairways to be dry I am used to the greens being watered and kept in good condition, sadly not the case here. That said ithis was probably reflected in the price of a round which, with a buggy was still good value for mo
Great course for the money, more challenging than expected.
Given the price, I was expecting a very easy course, tailored for beginners. Very surprised by the complexity of the course. Some holes very challenging, requiring good distance control, or your sand wedge will be getting a good workout. Lots of dog legs requiring careful navigation. None of the holes felt like they had been added just to fill the space, they all had a unique challenge.
Ground could be better maintained, some very patchy fairways and greens, though we've had some very dry weather lately so this may be circumstantial.
Plenty of hazards to keep you on your toes, the rough can be a bit clumpy so expect to lose a few balls if you stray from some of the tighter fairways. Lots of bunkers in some punishing places, the one on the first hole is big enough to need it's own postcode.
Pleasant staff in the shop, decent putting green and driving range.
Overall a pleasant surprise even if it was a bit challenging for my meagre ability. I wouldn't recommend for absolute beginners or those used to a more manicured course. However if you're looking for something to stretch your abilities on a budget, this is great. If they maintained the course a little better, this would be an absolute gem, well worthy of a much steeper green fee.
Not a happy return for birthday
I played this course many times in the past when first opened and shortly after that, it used to be a treat and a very nice well looked after course.
As it was my prospective son in law’s birthday we thought we would go there again on my recommendation that it’s “really nice there”, unfortunately we were both extremely disappointed; I totally understand the weather has been extremely warm and dry, so I expected some brown fairways and some bare patches but absolutely everything was very very poor.
I looked online and noticed there were EV chargers, but none worked as we tried to park.
On clubhouse arrival we asked for tokens for the range “sorry the range is closed for a private event”, went to the practice area which was in very poor condition to which I joked “I hope the course is in better nick!”, we gave up when a large family with small children started to putt all over the green making it impossible to practice any sort of chips and definitely not safely use the bunkers. We then went to the putting green near the first tee, again this was in a terrible state and trying to find a putt that was grass all the way to the hole was very difficult, I said again “they must be saving their efforts for the course” - no, I was wrong again, on the course itself the fairways were dead, the greens bare, patchy and covered in uneven soil patches, seeds and god knows what else, bunkers were inconsistent and unraked for ages and the rough without any transition went from ‘fairway’ to waist, chest and (I kid you not) ‘chin high’ straw if you were inches off line or given an unkind 90 degrees kick from the rock hard, bone dry divot strewn ‘fairways’.
Not only was it horrible to play on, scoring was also hampered as I was taken on a throwback to some pretty appalling municipal courses I played on in the 80s.
Frankly, it was awaful
If only!! The course was in poor condition. It could be really good.
If only. The course was in poor condition. It could be really good.
The greens were hit and miss, some were fine. A few were very patchy.
It is attached to the hotel complex. Time and money needs to improve the course.
There are many bunkers, with excellent sand, but they need daily raging.
If you can't afford to maintain them, why have 'em.
Shouldn't need to pick up, rage and replace in a bunker.
Yes, it has been very dry.... but you must invest in and around the green management.
Always an interesting course to play and good value for money
Fairways are burnt out and not much grass but that’s the same for most courses this summer. Overall always a challenge and enjoyable to play Wokefield and will return on a regular basis
Terrible pace of play
I've played Wokefield about ten times now and felt it was time to write a review.
It's a fantastic course, great practice facilities and good value for money. Ultimately though none of that matters as the absolute basic principle of pace of play and etiquette are none existent here.
A normal round is going to take you 5hrs due to pace of play, no one lets you through, place is full of rowdy blokes on stag do's whizzing around on buggies shouting and dropping litter. Bunkers left unraked, divots and pitch marks not fixed, you'll be waiting on every tee box for at least 10mins.
It's so frustrating because this course has everything there to be a fantastic venue and place to be a member but they cram way too many people in, the fee is evidently too cheap as you're getting all sorts of duffers go round and there's just no respect for the place. Staff are hidden away in the "clubhouse" which is miles from the first tee and I've not once seen anyone martial on course.
I really hope Wokefield address these comments as you can see by the other reviews I'm not the only person having these issues. I would love to play here more often but every time I do it's incredibly frustrating.
Very slow pace of play, no-one enforcing it.
On arrival the pro immediately said it would be a five hour round. I don't know why they aren't marshalling those groups that are ruining it for the rest of us. It also seemed no-one that day was bothering to rake the bunkers after themselves. There was a Marshall cart going around but it was just someone serving drinks.
It's a nice course which was really suffering from the lack of rain, some greens had no grass, not sure their sprinklers are up to the task.
Great facilities as its a hotel complex.
Sunday Evening tee off
A Sunday evening tee off. Perfect as course was pretty much empty. Only down side most of the greens were half brown and black and the other half green. Shame as the course is a nice course to play
Poorly maintained
Dreadfully maintained course bunkers full off weeds greens are the worst I have seen in a long time. The status of being a championship course should be revoked as the course has definitely fallen way below par (no pun intended)
Wokefield Park - 1st Timer
played this course for 1st time, 21/06/2025. For £35 I thought, overall, very good value. Played off the black tees so 6100 yards, from the yellow is 6400.
Need to be straight off the tee, rough was brutal, lost ball every time. this may be due to the recent hot weather. Recommend buying the stroke saver, £10.
the course makes you think on each hole, whether to lay up or go for the risky shot over water and rough. Lots of ponds to capture the ball.
I was a one ball so was held up a few times, but that was expected. still got round in 4 hours.
recommend a buggy as good walk between tees, especially from 9th green to 10th tee. Signage generally good, needs more between 9 and 10. halfway house also although closed when I played.
Tees and some greens were burnt brown, fairways lush.
Would definitely play again.
Clubhouse staff overworked, but was very busy and wifi is rubbish. Food not great quality.
Good venue for a 1 night, 2 round weekend.
golf now customers can play all day mon-fri and after 230pm sat, 3pm Sunday
Enjoyable course.
First time playing here so didn’t know what to expect since some reviews were very negative.
Ok, the course in some ways was not in a good condition. Patchy greens and tee boxes. Fairways were ok. Having said though the greens were true and very very fast. The course has great layout with bunkers, long grass, trees and bushes are positioned to make you think about your next shot. Despite the very dry condition of the course this somehow added to the general feel good factor playing this course. Will definitely play again.
Negative side is the cost of a buggy at £40 is a little steep and the pro shop only had cold Coca Cola for sale.
