I appreciate that it was a Monday Bank Holjday and busy but I have 2 complaints.
For a round of £30 in the North of England i exoect tip top condition and thoughtfulness for its customers who have paid this amount of money.
My complaints are 1. Some of the greens where undergoing treatment, sand, treatment lines etc 2. All of the greens were white flagged but positioned at front, centre and back of the green when course card states whit flags are at rear. I appreciate that you may think im.a little harsh and a bit of a (there are a few names) but having not played this course for a number of years these maje a difference when you dont figure it out till the 6th.
Overall a really nice/good course and will play again but not at £30.
Woodham currently under repair
We were a bit disappointed with the condition of the course and sadly can't recommend it in its current state. Greens and some tee boxes are currently very rough and the 15th hole is a building site whilst it is being realigned - all things considered not worth any more than circa £10 midweek / £15 weekend and definitely not worth £35 of anyone's money in it's current state of repair. The course has lots of potential but needs a very significant amount of work to bring it back to it's 80's & 90's heyday. The off course facilities have been refurbed recently and are now relatively good when compared to some other venues.
Great day
Travelling down the A1m I was not expecting too much from Woodham golf course from stories that I heard a few years ago. How wrong I could be.Not a single member of our 16 man party could find fault with this course. Infact we were all blown away by the scenery, coure layout, condition. Above all by the friendliness of the very hard working staff.
So many challenging holes !!!!
1st a rather easy par 5. Very wide fairway. My kind of hole, I like that.
5th is so scary if you have a fade or a draw. All the par 3's we found were tough especially the 17th uphill approx 190 yards ( i think). On a personal note I loved every hole and can't wait to play again.
One huge complaint is that the course is not 30 miles further north.
Brilliant layout
Having been a member of this club in the past I was interested to see how the course was playing, Woodham has always had the reputation of being a bit wet underfoot but the staff and owners are certainly getting on top of the problem, by no way eradicated but certainly a long way towards it. The layout is second to none in the area and every hole tests your game, we really enjoyed the round and would highly recommend a visit.
A pass out from the wife & kids
A great afternoon out with my brother in law who was visiting from Birkenhead with his wife & kids. Not to be out done by Royal Liverpool we both thoroughly enjoyed the course (Royal Woodham) which was in excellent conditions after 5 days of rain.
Didn't so much mind the slow play as it extended our pass out from the wife & kids :-)
The course offers timely challenges with great bunker placements & water hazards. Great value for money & definitely worth a play.
Played in a 2 ball
Brilliant course green and fairways in great order plenty of good sand in bunkers well worth the price
Excellent value for money
First time playing this course. Booked afternoon tee time which was quieter but no slow play. Course is great and the back 9 very challenging with the water hazards. All in all had a great day and great value for money on a great course
Ignorant and rude members
Ignorant members(4 ball) on foot not letting us play through even though we were in a buggy and playing par golf behind. Inconsiderate and blatantly ignoring our gentle advances to play through.
Will never set foot on course again and had to walk off to go to alternative course after 3 holes.
woodham
played on 4/6/2018 what can I say fem members on course but speed of play was good like the new path that's been put down fairways very good and the greens were spot on will be playing again soon shot a 87 for an handicap of 21
Massively overpriced
Fairway conditions were atrocious, greens weren't too bad. Need a lot of work!
Water logged
The weather that day was good and I decided to take advantage of it. It was only £10 through tee off times and seemed like a good price. It was explained to me that the conditions were damp and there were certain temporary tees and the 17th hole was closed. I expected the ground to be soft but it was very soft in many places and I lost around 5/6 balls off the tee because they plugged. The condition of some of the greens were below par and made it difficult to judge when putting. I like the course but won't come back until the weather has warmed up.
Getting back to its best
Played this course a lot over the last few years but when down hill a lot but things are back on track here. Greens were slow and very spongey but the rest of the course was in fantastic condition. A lot of work can been seen to have been put into the drainage problem this course used to have and the club house/bar has a great menu and great food
I think this is an absolutely completely unfair comment to make. The work is being done following 5 months of closure due to horrific weather. Fairways are in really good condition and greens are getting there.
