Sewailo Golf Club is part of the Casino Del Sol Resort in Tucson, a luxurious resort run by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The course's name, Sewailo, means "flower world" in the Yaqui language. When the idea of creating the golf course was first formed, the tribe enlisted the help of fellow Native American and PGA Tour player Notah Begay III as well as renowned course architect Ty Butler. The team fully utilized the rugged landscape, crafting a championship layout with a range of shot values and a variety of hazards. The bunkering is minimal but strategic, added to complement the natural features rather than overpower them. There are also lakes and meandering streams that come into play. Sewailo Golf Club has five sets of tees with the longest stretching to 7,400 yards.

Great course but pace of play was an issue.

Great course with wonderful facilities.

Our only negative was the pace of play.

We had the talk from the starter about pace of play and how the crew would have no issue asking a group to pick up and move to the next tee. It seemed to us that the push didn’t happen.

After nine holes we were 28 minutes behind and after thirteen holes we were 34 minutes behind.

We did not get our entire round in before dark. As we drove in we passed three groups that were also not going to finish. Too bad because the finishing holes are fabulous.

Shockingly Slow Pace of Play

The course is a beautiful, challenging layout. However, after the starter made a big deal about selecting tees because of pace of play concerns, we were only able to finish 14 holes in over 4 hours due to a group in front of us not playing with any urgency. When we drove past them to get back to the clubhouse, we saw they were two holes behind the group in front of them.

Disappointing for a course that is as beautiful as Sewailo, that there is no one out there, no ranger, monitoring pace of play

almost perfect, but very slow

This is a really nice desert golf course that I try to play on every visit to Tucson. It is interesting, challenging, good condition and a great value for the money. One issue: 5 hours. Look, I was playing on a Sunday afternoon so I was ready for slow play. But 5 hours? We waited on every hole. It is just hard to enjoy golf when it is that slow.

Excellent golf course and reasonably priced. 5hr round because it was cart path only and the 4some in front putted like pros. Great range and practice area. Ranger and starter were super. Greens weren’t the best because tons of ball marks that weren’t taken care of but that’s on us as golfers. A couple of the greens looked like someone hit a 100 shots from 100 yards and just left. Otherwise this is a great course and well worth playing. $60 to play and GPS which really helped because there’s some little streams that run through the fairways that aren’t visible. Take a little less club on the 1st hole (180 - 200 yards at most from the Ruby deck)

Sewailo Review

Nice layout and in pretty good condition. Grass in the fairways is a little thin. There are a couple of holes that are unfair - 10 and 18. With the dormant Bermuda a good drive is not rewarded as the fairways slope towards the water and there is nothing to stop the ball from rolling in the water. As the dormant Bermuda prevails for a large portion of the playing season, either waste bunkers or higher ridges on the fairways are needed on these 2 holes, to prevent good drives from getting wet.

3 hr 9 holes

1 hr frost delay and a 3 hr front 9 = taking your bag off your cart and walking in from the 10th tee where we were 4 groups deep. Thank you but NO Thank you.

Tough times on a great course

I’ll start by saying it is March 1st and, being an east coaster, I’m happy to be able to play on this 60 degree day. A storm was heading our way and we hoped to be able to finish the round (which with did). Playing in a 2 to 3 club winds all round made for a difficult day on a challenging course.

Conditions were great although the greens had been aerated (tiny holes) and had been treated (fertilizer?). Despite this, green speeds were moderate and firm. The dormant Bermuda framing the fairways helped balls that landed there find the hazards. Fairways were in terrific shape.

Despite the wind requiring playing with rocks in my pocket :-)) it was a great experience and highly recommended.

Great Track

Great layout. A real challenge in the wind. Always slow play. Have to count on 4 and a half hour to 5 hour round.

Sewailo

It’s winter so there’s dormant grass in the rough. Harder then I remember. Lots of water and bunkers and narrow fairways. Definitely a great challenge.

Enjoyable round

Course offers a good mix of easy and very difficult holes with great scenery. Wind is usually a major factory but today the conditions were perfect.

Chief’s Review

4th time playing this course. It is very challenging for a 20 handicapper like me, but it is fun to play and makes you play smarter…

I would recommend this course to anyone that wants to play a 1st class golf course for a very reasonable price.

Beautiful course

We were paired up with a couple guys that had played the course before, which was very helpful. The group ahead of us was painfully slow and did not offer to have us play through. At about hole seven we went around them so that we would have half a chance of getting 18 in by sunset. Only made it through 15, which was a bit disappointing. Sure would have been nice if there were course marshals out there to keep play moving.
