Sewailo Golf Club
About
Sewailo Golf Club is part of the Casino Del Sol Resort in Tucson, a luxurious resort run by the Pascua Yaqui Tribe. The course's name, Sewailo, means "flower world" in the Yaqui language. When the idea of creating the golf course was first formed, the tribe enlisted the help of fellow Native American and PGA Tour player Notah Begay III as well as renowned course architect Ty Butler. The team fully utilized the rugged landscape, crafting a championship layout with a range of shot values and a variety of hazards. The bunkering is minimal but strategic, added to complement the natural features rather than overpower them. There are also lakes and meandering streams that come into play. Sewailo Golf Club has five sets of tees with the longest stretching to 7,400 yards.

Great course
This is one of the best courses in Tucson, the greens were consistent and true, fairways were perfectly over-seeded.
I will be playing it again....soon I hope!
Great except for cart path only
Will definatly will play again. I fact, booked it already.
Best greens in tucson
Great resort course. Greens are the best in tucson. First time playing this track. Nice range and practice facilities.
Went out as a single caught some seniors at nine, played with them on the forward tees and hit mostly irons and fairway woods with a couple of drivers on par fives. Need to play the course a couple of times to get a handle on landing areas.
Only complaint is the weak pro shop and snack bar. However, casino has numerous restaurants to hit after your round.
Sorry I waited so long
A great course that is setup so that even average women golfer can enjoy it!
Pristine would describe the course. Don't miss the opportunity to play this course.

Desert course
Very great golf course design in the desert. Greens were in pretty good shape! I recommend this golf course.
One of the best!!
The course is one of the most beautiful in tucson. The scenery, the conditions, the amenities are all excellent!! Love playing here.
Perfect Course and Price
Make sure you book through Golf Now. The pricing was at least $12-$20 cheaper this way
Poor service
When I got there, there was nobody @ the bag drop, wait for a minute ans still no one. So I parked the car and there were bodies but my bag was still where I had left it! Then after the 4th hole it was apparent our cart was dying & was not gony make it. We called to clubhouse & requested another cart, and nothing happened. We called again on the 7th hole & still no response! After being pushed on every hole by our partners we made it to the turn where 3 carts were left by the range but no one was around. We switched carts and finish our round in 5 hrs., which of course is unexceptionable cause we never waited on any hope except for the cart to go!
The cart died.
Our cart started dying on us after a few holes, so I called the club house at hole 5 and 8, but no one ever came by to replace it. I had to walk and push it until we made the turn, and luckily there was an empty cart at the range. Very disappointing for that. Other then that, the course condition was in excellent shape. The greens however had a lot of unrepaired ball marks. I can't blame the course for that but golfers themselves. People, please don't ruin it for us. Fix your divots and repair your ball marks!
Hot Weather Fun
Staff was really friendly and helpful, Tee boxes and fairways in real good shape. Greens roll true and but a little slow due to much rain recently. A couple holes had some browning problems starting on the greens but they said they were working on it. Lots of water on the course. 14 holes had some water to contend with. Hit them straight and you won't lose balls.
Great Course
This course is in excellent shape. They have benefited from the Monsoons. Greens were like velvet not hard as a rock or rough like some greens in transition to a summer grass. Anyway if you want a great challenging bang for your buck, this is the course. BTW great scenery of the surrounding mountains.
Great greens
The greens are the best of all the courses we play in tucson.
Great course, greens were in superb condition.
Took 3 friends to the course for their first time and they said it was the best course in town.
Plan on 5 Hours
Pace of play is ALWAYS slow here. We went off fairly early in the day and still had to wait on every shot. We saw a ranger one time and told him we are used to playing in 4 hours or less and he said "well that is not going to happen here"! Many groups today seemed more interested in getting more drinks from the cart girl than playing ready golf. Like the layout and challenge but probably won't be back since we don't feel like burning in 105 degrees for a 5 hour round.
Great course -- wind a challenge
As the summer heat descends on the Tucson area great deals can be had at local golf courses. Sewailo is no exception. I played an afternoon round in June for twenty five bucks! That's quite a savings considering at peak season (even earlier in the day) would be significantly more.
To play a top flite course for that price is an enticement I can't pass up. While temperatures peak at 3 pm (my tee time) from that point on the 99 degree starting temperature can drop 10-15 degrees by the end of the game making for more comfortable playing conditions.
What I wasn't counting on was the WIND!!! I capitalize WIND because it was blowing a steady 15 mph and gusting to 20 mph. My playing partner loved the wind. He came from the mid-west where the wind never lets up. I'm spoiled here in Tucson where wind is an after thought -- not the expected.
I'm a low 80's handicapper and stopped counting my score when I realized that I wouldn't be playing any where near my handicap this day. That made it fun. My partner was a much better, stronger and younger player who played the black tees. That gave me an opportunity to move one tee back to the blacks and throw caution "to the wind".
And it was windy. Something I'm not experienced at. But it was fun hitting a towering drive then watching the wind push the ball a good 30-50 yards from my target area. I learned to adjust. It gave me an excuse to go for broke off the tee. Granted, I topped a couple of tee shots (thanks for the Mulligans, partner!) and was able to take my tee shot to the limit. Usually, I'm much more restrained and toned down trying to aim for a specific target.
I also learned that the sand at Sewailo is more soft and fluffy than the majority of bunkers located around Tucson. Most of the sand here is harder and more compact. Not so at Sewailo. This is quality sand which a sand wedge with a high bounce is required. I learned this by using a medium bounce wedge and had the club head go right under the ball! A sand wedge would have helped.
As late as my tee time was there weren't a lot of staff left at the clubhouse. I didn't have any problems so it wasn't an issue. I would have liked to adjust the brightness on the GPS display supplied on the cart --- but I just squinted and made do. I'm sure there is a simple adjustment in "settings" --- but I just couldn't find it.
I should warn golfers not to go off the beaten track with the cart chasing errant golf balls. The GPS system in the cart is programmed to shut down the electric cart should you choose to travel in restricted areas. In that case, you have to push the cart back the way you came until the GPS allows the cart to fire up again. Not difficult to solve, just something to avoid.
I've played Sewailo before when the weather is nice and it is one of my favorite courses in the Tucson area. It is challenging, rewarding and frustrating all at the same time. It is well maintained with a huge casino nearby with a number of top quality restaurants there. There is also a towering hotel on the property.
The location of Sewailo (on the western edge of the Tucson area) makes it susceptible to extreme weather changes because it isn't shielded by the mountains which surround the city of Tucson. Wind is just one of those elements that a golfer just has to occasionally deal with.
Accommodate for the weather and this is a great golfing experience. During high season expect stellar weather and outstanding playing conditions.
I had fun!
