Wickenburg Ranch Golf & Social Club
About
Wickenburg Ranch Golf & Social Club is in the heart of some of Arizona's most dramatic Sonoran Desert terrain, you would hardly be able to guess that you're only about an hour from Phoenix. The golf course tumbles across rolling hills, stretching to more than 7,000 yards from the back tees. Each hole provides a different challenge thanks to the fluctuating elevations, which are complemented by strategically placed bunkers. You won't find too many water hazards but you're in for a challenge where it does come into play. One of the most notable water holes is the par-3 13th, which has a massive lake hugging the right side of the green. It's followed by another water hole, a par 5 with ponds on either side. The appeal of the golf course goes beyond the challenging layout, Wickenburg Ranch offers scenic views of Vulture Peak and Prescott National Forest as well as mild temperatures almost year-round.

I can see why it was rated one of the best nee courses!
Went out to Wickenberg Ranch while on a holiday in AZ. Played with 3 friends. As it stands, the course is surrounded by construction, as there's a suburb being built around it, but there are still great views to be had.
Course condition was as good as anything I've played. The greens were rolled so pure and the fairways felt like hitting off of carpet. My only small gripe is the bunkers - the starter was talking about how premium the sand was in the bunkers, but I found it to be pretty coarse, and it did a number on the finish of my new wedges. Not a huge issue, as that's what they're made for, but I don't think the sand lived up to the hype.
The practice facilities were top notch. It was nice to see a new course make sure they make practice facilities a priority. The round was pretty slow, about 5 hours - the marshals could probably have done a better job moving one particular group along, but it is what it is. Overall a great day out, and I'd love to play it again someday.
FANTASTIC WICKENBURG RANCH
We were fortunate to play Wickenburg Ranch on Saturday 2nd April 2016. The course was absolutely magnificent. Tees superb, Fairways as good as most greens, Greens awesome (12 on stintmeter).
All staff extremely friendly including Jake's Spoon and Pro shop. A special mention to Head Golf Pro Justin Henderson who even came to speak to us after our round. Great value for money, especially when the green fee includes a quality Travis Matthew polo shirt and hat. What else can I say, a must play for everyone. 5 stars all round, would have given it even more if it was possible.
Best course in the valley and I have played most of them
Will be bring our group out in June for at least 2 rounds of golf here will be dropping another course to play this twice.
FUN
Had read online about this course and had a free day on vacation so our family decided to make the drive and try the course. (The free shirt/hat included in green fee for $115 sweetened the deal.) Played on St. Paddys day and the course had a few extras which helped. Practice facility is huge and in great condition. After getting beat up at some other courses and not knowing what to expect we teed it forward and had a blast. 6 par 3s and 5 par 5s added to the variety. The fairways were great and the greens rolled very true, we made more putts this round than the previous 3 combined. In response to previous posts yes there are a few greens on the front nine that may repel a good shot as there is more than one level on most greens but you can also play away from some flags and they can funnel back. No GPS in carts but there is an app available. Holes 2-7 are a good stretch (6 is a great risk reward par 4). Holes 13 & 14 are great camera opportunities. Its a bit of a drive to get there but you are playing ,a course that compares favorably with almost any $200+ in the area.
One word. WOW.
So I'm planning a little golf/spring training vaca for my buddies and myself, and when researching courses to play, I stumbled upon this course that opened just last February. There was a comment on the updated top 25 courses in Arizona asking why this course wasn't listed, so I was curious. There then was a reply to that comment noting that it's quite new and that there just aren't enough reviews to put it in the top 25 even though it's sitting at 5 stars. I then checked out their website and was immediately sold based on what looked like a drone flyover of the course. Tee time was booked for Saturday, March 12th for 8:38 AM (a little chilly at that time of course, but not a problem with me!). The one thing I did notice when planning this trip out was the distance it was away from where we were staying in Phoenix. And I can tell you this, I would gladly drive an hour and 20 minutes to play this course, over, and over, and over again! My dad who was on the trip with us, complained the entire drive out there, saying why in the world would we drive this far to golf when there's a million courses nearby to play! Once we stepped foot on the course, he was speechless, and could not believe the quality of the course. Yeah dad, that's why we drove that long to get here! He couldn't stop praising it the rest of the trip, and of course, the other courses we played the days after, were not even comparable. Worth the drive a million times over, and honestly would have played this course all 4 days we were out in Arizona if I would have known how amazing it was! Everything from tee to green was just simply pristine. I've played a lot of golf in my life, and this course is up there on my list, one of the best, if not the best I've ever played. For $115, paid at the course, we not only got the golf, but we also snagged a Travis Matthew polo and hat with Wickenburg's logo. Both of those combined probably are valued at about what we paid for golf! If you pass on that option, you can get the golf for $90, but for an additional $25, you can't beat getting that option! The course itself is just outstanding...I mean, there is literally not a piece of grass out of place. It is pure golf perfection, and quite the challenge. It is quite the scenic course and has greens that will make you pull your hair out as they are tough, but very fun to putt on as they are of course fast, and true. Every hole in my mind is a 'picture hole.' The only thing I'd suggest is being able to get some pin placements before the round on those greens and adding GPS to the carts. The pin placements would of course help big time as almost every green has at least one tier, and GPS will of course help with the speed of play, not that it bothered us as we were the pacesetters, but would help everyone. There is I believe a temporary clubhouse at the moment, if that's what you call temporary, as most clubs would love that as their clubhouse. It overlooks the first hole's green. When you do go here, your GPS will probably take you on a wrong turn near the course, so check their website for directions as we got turned around right near the course even though we could see it in the distance. Alright, I think I'm finally done here, but this is an absolute MUST PLAY. Do not miss an opportunity to play here, and quite frankly, I'd rank this one over any of the other top courses in the Phoenix area. One more thing...the breakfast burrito was awesome as well! Props to the chef! Again, definitely make the trip, it's 110% worth it!!!
Unbelievable
I almost hesitate to review this course for fear of it becoming too popular/expensive. It's a fairly long drive from PHX, but worth every minute. The course is brand new so the Pro Shop is pretty sparse but the restaurant and views from the patio are tremendous. They were offering a Travis Matthew deal with a hat and WR shirt for $25 extra - well worth it. The course was immaculate, as described by the starter. The views are pretty ridiculous and at times you feel like you're in the desert mountains by yourself. My only complaint would be a lack of green diagrams - these greens are huge with significant undulation. If you miss on the wrong side of the green, you're staring a 3 putt in the face. Fantastic course, friendly staff and I'm not sure the value can be beat. Just hoping this doesn't go private any time soon...
go play it
excellent conditioned course - well worth the drive.
nice practice range but could use a larger chipping area and perhaps a larger putting
green or two.
our group ( all low or mid h'cap golfers) thought the back 9 was better then the front.
the greens are undulating, firm and fast lending themselves to tough pin placements. we all felt that
the back 9 greens were fairer then the front because they were larger and didn't repell a decent shot.
the greens definitely protect the course but they are beautiful to putt on.
one negative - the yardage book doesn't show the size of the green or the undulations and there
is no pinsheet. so hitting into several 'unseen' greens are just a guess.
having said that - we will play it again.
Great but a challenge
Played with two friends that played here before. Beautiful course, challenging, fast greens. Awesome views. Not for the short hitting player. Took 5.5hrs to play 15. Because of time restrictions on our part we had to depart after 15. Would have liked to finished. The bent grass greens were great. Course is in great shape will play again but a lot more time. Don't know if it's always this slow. HOPE not. Other than the pace and the large amount of blind shots I will pay again. Just need to learn the course better. Thanks for a GREAT course. PS practice facility , NEVER have seen better.
A gem
This is a fantastic track in great condition. Greens are true and quick. Staff and folks made a great day well worth the drive.
worth the drive to wickenburg,az
First this is out there, add 30 minutes to your trip time from central phoenix.east valley of phoenix,2nd worth the drive, this is anOUTSTANDING golf course in GREAT condition, fun to play, but choose a tee 1 lower than you think the first time playing,to enjoy and learn the course,3rd greens are tricky could not understand them at all, look and read different from every angle but do run and putt pure,STAFF outstanding, really care what you think and seemed to value your opinion of everything, not much of a clubhouse, small trailer, but that is not important for this course,13 is one of the nicest, prettiest holes in the phoenix area, would have been the 18th on the original layout,i think it should go back to that layout it runs like it had been there for years, the course was not played for 8 years before it opened up and it shows,it is mature.GO PLAY THIS COURSE,ONCE.
If this course isn't on your bucket list...it should be.
Simply put, in my 67 years of playing the most wonderful,
frustrating game ever invented, I have never had a more
enjoyable round. The condition of the course was the finest
I have ever seen, and I've seen and played well over 300 courses in my life and it is challenging without being tricked up or made overly difficult. It's only drawback is that my round
ended way too soon. I would have liked to have gone around
AT LEAST one more time.
I Can't Go Higher Than a 5?
Best course I have played in the valley and I have played a lot of them. Incredible practice facility. You will not find a weed or a blade of grass out of place anywhere on the course. The greens are receptive, true and fast. The fairways are pristine. The staff was amazing as well.
They are 30 days out on tee times. It is worth the wait. Views, golf course conditions and incredible playing experience make it a must do. The reputation is well earned and though it is a drive to get there, make sure you do it. I give it a 10.
Trilogy at Wickenburg Ranch
A great course! Very unique design because it has 5 par 5's, 6 par 3's and 7 par 4's. Bentgrass greens that were running at least at an 11, and most greens had at least two levels. Fairways and rough were in tremendous shape. I believe that this course will be mentioned in the same breath as Troon North, Wekopa and Quintero.
An Arizona favorite already
Sure, it's a bit of a drive to get there from Phoenix or Scottsdale, but it's well worth the trip, especially at less than $100 for green fees with tee times at 12 minutes apart. Even if they weren't giving you a nice logoed shirt and pullover, it'd still be a bargain and already, it's one of the best public courses in Arizona. Elevated tees, imaginative greens, terrific desert/mountain scenery, a great variety of holes, incredible practice facilities and absolutely perfect bentgrass greens is a recipe for a great course. There's no clubhouse yet, but who cares? The golf is terrific and it's about half of what it costs to play in season in Scottsdale.
A Definite Must Play
Everything about Wickenburg Ranch is top notch. From the first tee to 18 green. Our group truly loved the golf course. The fairways are the perfect size landing areas for all caliber of golfer. The greens are the most challenging if you hit your shot on the wrong part of the green. Definitely walk to all sides of ball before putting. Best greens in Arizona. Perfect roll and very speedy. Scenery of the Sonoran Desert is breathtaking. You will not find a better golf experience for the money. I will be back as many times as possible!
