Lone Tree Golf Course
About
Lone Tree Golf & Event Center sits at the base of Mount Diablo State Park, tumbling across rolling hills that provide panoramic views of the scenic San Juaquin River Delta region. It is one of the most popular golf courses among local Bay Area golfers. The name of the course is misleading since the beautiful landscape is covered with mature forests filled with a variety of indigenous trees including majestic Red Oaks, Cypress, Eucalyptus, and Ponderosa Pines. These towering treetops make navigating the course pretty tricky. Accuracy is essential as is precise shot placement. The trees border the rolling fairways and there are bunkers strategically placed along the greensides. In 1990, Lone Tree's greens were completely redone except for those on the 12th and 15th, which are the two smallest on the golf course.

Lone Tree or Lone green?
The fairways at this course were in decent shape as was the rough. The greens left a lot to be desired. There were several temporary greens and the greens that were open were not in the best shape. So maybe a lone green out of 18 was up to par. The greens that were open had multiple bare spots and repaired areas. I would not have minded if there was an alert when I booked the round. It would have been nice if the the Pro Shop had a sign or told me about it when I checked in.
Greens need work
I like this course and I have played here many times but the greens right now need a lot of work. thee were 3 holes that had temporary greens but most of the greens need a lot of work and affected the game.
Green are thrashed
Greens need to be fixed!!!! Putting on these greens is like putting on the moon they're so poor. Talked to clubhouse and was informed that they had cut the greens too short disputed the greens keeper telling them not to. Will not be going back until they fix the greens. It's a shame because this course it usually pretty good with plenty of shade
Greens are very BAD!!
Greens are horrible!! 2 temp greens and nobody told us before hand. They could actually fix about 9 of the greens. Nobody should have to putt on cement.
Wow this is bad
I've played lone tree b4 & it was a nice muni course. But after playing in on 072317 I changed my mind After teeing off & playing the 1st hole which was in FAIR shape .starting with the green @ the 2nd hole the greens went from bad to worse with only the 17th green being decent .if u play here b4 the greens get repaired u will be DISAPPONTED
Greens Need Improvement
Have played this course about 8 times over the last 3 years. I like the layout, the pace of play, and the people working there. The course is fairly well maintained, with the exception of the greens. The most disappointing thing about the course are the greens. There has been no improvement of the greens over the last 3 years. They have always been patchy with brown, and bare spots, and are still that way. I know that they water with recycled water which creates some problems, but the greens need improvement, if you want repeat customers.
Great facilities, challenging lay-out, friendly staff
Everything was on time and ready when I arrived got out a little earlier than reserved time. Fairways were in very good shape BUT the greens were in terrible shape. Many bare patches, ruts where sod had been layed. Some lies almost unplayable. Greens were very dry. Not fair that this wasn't noted upfront. It will be a long time before I go there again, very disappointing experience.
Great deal - lots of fun!
Lots of fun, not too crowded, close to home, and friendly service
Wasted my time and money....worst golf course playing conditions ever.
Great course with relatively easy lay out.
Fun course to play. I love the early morning hours before the winds pick up. We were the first group out ,with only maintenance workers around, and we played very quickly. The greens were fairly slow, but the rest of the course played well. They have done a great job with repairs after a brutal winter.
Course was in good condition, greens were soft but very slow. Tee boxes were in very good shape and the fairways for the most part were also in very good condition. We played in 3:20 minutes, not bad for a Friday morning round of golf.
Back from the dead!
Due to the havoc wreaked on the greens following last fall’s aerification, I had avoided Lone Tree. After reading several, recent, positive reviews, I took a chance - and I’m glad I did. The greens have rebounded very nicely, with only a few traces of the prior damage. They roll true and were reasonably fast. The fairways and tee boxes were in good shape, comparable to most North Bay courses, but nothing outstanding. The layout offers only minimal challenge, as there is no water, no forced carries, few bunkers and only a couple of holes requiring creative shot making. Nonetheless, Lone Tree is a fine place to hone your basic skills.
The range is adequate, but plays into a bit of a ravine, making it a challenge to assess distance and roll. There are two putting greens, both very small and with little dimension. One allows sand shots and chipping/pitching, but it is too small to be very useful in that regard.
The staff gets the job done, with no negativity but also little in the way of warmth and welcome. I played in a twosome behind a group of five with three kids under ten. However, we hardly ever waited, and finished in 4 hours on a 2:00pm Sunday start. The clubhouse has a very nice terrace and a decent menu/bar, well worth a stop after your round. I am glad to add Lone Tree back into my regular playlist.
