great value for the money
good for long ballers, par 3 and 4's were long but the course was fun to play and the greens were in good shape. only drawback is you have to wait for a escort at the front gate! make sure you have a clean record.
Great course and price for the beginner.
This is a great course for the beginner golfer. Wide fairways and center hole placements. There is a long par 3 and a couple long par 4's (I hit two great shots on one of the Par 4's and still came up short of the green#. Brand new carts were just purchased and the course is well taken care of. I have been golfing this course for about 3 years and it was pretty rough a couple years ago, but they continue to make improvements and take better care of the course itself. Getting on the base #if your not military# can be a little rough, but not bad #make sure you show up at least 45mins earlier than your T-time and bring your ID, registration, and insurance. I paid les than $5 for 18 holes and a cart through GOLFNOW.
Must try it once
This was my first time playing the course and I was very pleased with the overall experience. If you have never played it then be ready to spend time waiting to get passed the gates at Beale Air Force Base. They will not let you thru unless someone comes and sponsors you. We had to wait for the greens keeper to come down there and sign for us. The golf carts are brand new and the course was in good condition. I would recommend this course to everyone.
A good course for proficient and semi-proficient to play.
I thought the course was a good challenge in that it plays long because the turf is cut high; The greens are in good shape for most but play slow and traps need some trimming. I would recommend it to a friend.
needs a lot of TLC
poor condition.. fairways, tee boxes, & greens in dire need of good mowing..
Good course to play a quick round.
This is the first time I have played Coyote Run GC. The only hassle, which is forewarned when you receive your tee time confirmation, is waiting for your escort for the drive from the Beale AFB gate to the golf course. Otherwise, the rather inexpensive (cheap) GN rate is worth the time as the course does not get alot of play in the afternoon (heat) and I played a quick 18. The greens were rather spongey and correspondingly slow, but the course layout is challenging as most military golf courses are. If I lived closer, I would play this course frequently just because of the bargain green fees.
great course
getting on base a bit slow shift change. don't go at 1pm.
Take your GPS... the course lacks yardage markers
I like the golf course at Coyote Run. I have played it for years, back when it was a 9-hole course. It has grown into a fun course, average in length. The one major issue I have with the course is the lack of yardage markers. Back in the day there were wooden plaques nailed to several trees that would give distance. Now, you have to search for sprinkler heads or figure out distances on the "links" posts in the fairways.
There are a couple of holes on the back nine that don't give the golfer a good sight picture of what is waiting down the fairway. The holes take 90 degree turns and it is very difficult to figure out a landing area to plan off the tee.
The greens are fair, and not particularly fast. There is a lot of out of bounds and tall weeds that could lead to lost balls for those like me who tend to throw some drives in different directions.
The practice facilities are okay, but the putting green has too many undulations so the flat area can get packed even when there are not a lot of golfers at the course. Overall though, I will play Coyote Run again and I would recommend it to friends, though it would not rank among the top courses in the area to play.
a different course experience
course has 2 sets of varying hole types with about 9 holes of each type. one set of older holes with tight fairways, tree lined, small somewhat elevated greens. the other with links style holes and target tee shots, large greens. both hole types had greens with challenging contours. older hole small greens were slower than newer hole larger greens. overall, all greens a little on the slow side. good clubhouse facility. enjoyed the course a lot. only downside, access to air force base could prove difficult, but not impossible. no problem for me though (one retired military with 3 non-military).
A good test of golf for proficient players.
The golf course was demanding but fair. One hole has a long carry off the tee to reach the fairway, about 180 yards to a fairway opening with a tree somewhat in the middle of the fairway. Longish par fours abound with many well hit drives needed to reach the corner of a dogleg. It was our first time to play the course and course knowledge of ball placement in the fairway and the location of some hazards becomes a premium. A GPS or course layout book would be helpful for other first time players. The course is certainly worth much more than the inexpensive greens fees we paid.
Good course for the price.
I'm a regular at this course being military myself. Most of my reservations have been in the morning. This last time I went through GolfNow and took advantage of the great deal for this course. $10 for a full round WITH a cart? No brainer! Only thing was the tee time was later than I normally go, but I couldn't pass it up. The staff are friendly, but sometimes were slow with checking in. There was a lot of confusion with assigning carts, as well as there not being enough to sign out. Because of this, it took them a while before I finally was able to check in. I would give them the benefit of the doubt because the just got newer carts and some of the numbers are the same for the newer ones as well as the older ones. I didn't have enough time to hit the range before my tee time. I'm no where near good enough to just swing the driver a few times then rip it down the fairway. So my round suffered a bit which was frustrating. If you aren't military coming to play, give yourself plenty of time before your tee time. I've heard it takes a while (30 min. give or take) to get signed on to the base. Overall, I really enjoy this course. I probably will be more hesitant to book a reservation in the after noon, but I will play here again.
nice course ,wide open for the most part
this course is user friendly, I played it in the afternoon on a weekend, when it was wide open. make sure to bring whatever you want with you because there was no cartperson coming around to sell you cold drinks.
Unique course
This course is on Beale AFB and given the current world's conditions requires some extra effort to gain access. You have to show up an hour prior to tee time at the entrance gate with a photo ID for everyone in the car, proof of vehicle insurance and registration. You will then have to call the pro shop yourself so have their number handy to arrange an escort to the course. You will sign an authorization allowing them to search your vehicle as they see fit and I've seen another persons vehicle being tossed before they left the base.
After all that, it's not too much trouble and a great value when the course is in good shape. It isn't right now but they're working on it. Plan on a lot of wind in the spring and blistering heat in the summer but maybe you see Chuck Yeager driving through as he lives just up the hill toward Grass Valley. You'll also see a YF-12A fighter interceptor and the missile that they strapped on its back across on static display across from the club house. It was the precursor to the SR-71 Blackbird recon. aircraft.
As far as the course, big trees some water and the need for TLC but the exotic setting makes it worth it as TR-1 spy planes do touch and go practicelandings on the strip near the golf course.
Good old military course. Not for fussy golfers.
Fairways cut with mostly flat lies. Greens a little slow, but rolled true. Allow time for security clearance and escort onto base.
Short course but has some variety of holes.
Enjoyable course that doesn't get much play due to restrictions on outside play. Greens are in good condition and price is rediculously cheap. 12th hole provides a challenge as does the two options on hole #16.
Very nice course and value
Course is in really good shape. Greens run a little slower than most courses. Front 9 easier than back 9, but challenging all the way around. The staff is great!
If you don't know someone in the military or have a pass plan to show up at least 30-40 mins prior to tee time to get cleared to get on the base and be escorted to the course. It is worth the effort and you will come back again.
long even from the whites
Very poor condition. Grass is almost dead with many gopher/ground squirrel holes all over the place which is dangerous - especially on the front 9. 1 temporary hole-9th hole was changed from par 5 to par 4.
Be sure to have your drivers license and proof of insurance. The military gates are very strict at this. Be sure that when you call for escort that they get the right gate - apparantly there are many gates to this AFB.
Older course that has been well maintained, back nine is a bit more challanging. Staff is always accommodating.
I usually play 1-2 times a week and usually at Coyote Run. Depending on conditions I can play this course in 3 to 4 1/4 hrs.
Greens, fairways and most t-boxs well maintained (the red t-box on #6 is never in good condition). Moderatly wide fairways, lots of trees, some water hazards, bunkers on most holes, elevated greens on many holes add to the challange. All in all, a great place to play.
where?
Never knew there was a golf course at Beale Air Force Base. Very quick pace of play; less than three hours. Not many players on course.
Great value, but difficult to get on a military base.
I had never played the course before, and may not again unless with someone who has a military pass. I waited for about 30 minutes at the gate for someone from the course to come escort me.
The course itself was in great need of water, except for the greens. They were in good condition.
