DeBell Golf Club
About
DeBell Golf Club in Burbank offers an 18-hole Regulation Course and a nine-hole disc golf course. The Regulation Course has a tight layout with narrow fairways and a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. Accuracy is the key to doing well on this golf course but it's not overly punishing. Its risk-reward holes will appeal to low and high handicappers alike. The front nine is fairly challenging but the back nine is where the golf course gets tough. Although DeBell Golf Club is short, only 5,608 yards from the back tees, the blind shots and winding doglegs make it seem much longer than it is. There isn't any water on the golf course but you'll hardly miss its presence with all the other hazards that lurk throughout.

Very Good Course but pace was so slow
My son and I played the on 02/20/2016, we were paired up with 2 other guys. We started playing @ 12:45... we called it a day by 16:45 after 11 holes. The pace was so slow that we waited for 10 to 15 mins on the tee box to tee-off. We were so disappointed, coz this has never happened at this golf course before....But in fairness, the course was in very good shape. I would play again at DeBell...and will hope that the last time that we played was just a one -off.
DeBell
Played the Blues (5608/68.9/122) with RGM2525 for $15 including a cart through a course E-Mail promotion. We played through 2 groups & finished in 3H, 30M on a hot, fairly still afternoon.
The layout is quirky, tight and very hilly, the holes are constantly up/down. The course is carved out of a mountain with tremendous views of Burbank, Glendale and downtown L.A. Older course that has never been modernized (lengthened) and likely never will due to space constraints. There are many blind shots, even a par 3 where you can not see the green or the flag hidden over a hill. It would take several rounds to get a feel for this course. Where to aim and how much club to hit off different tees because of fairways that are often severely up/down hills that then slope to sidehill lies.
Miss the already narrow fairways by more than a few yards and there is a generous amount of OB, red stakes and barranca waiting to add penalty strokes to your score. Accuracy is definitely a premium even though there is no water on the course. Local knowledge on numerous greens, where to aim over blind areas and how much club to hit off numerous tees is essential to playing well here.
The tees were poor overall, many were thin and needed divot repair. Probably because it is a shorter course, there are many more tees chewed up with divots that you would expect on par 4's and even par 5's.
The fairways and rough were about 50/50 lush/thin but had good coverage overall.
The sand traps were playable, average.
The greens are very small and also VERY severely sloped on numerous holes. The greens were the best part of the course, firm, medium fast and they putted relatively smooth. Very few straight putts, be ready to aim outside the hole to way outside the hole on even shorter putts.
The kikuyu aprons and the rough close to the greens are treacherous to chip over/through even though they are not that high.
Short = yes, but this is far from an easy course. The slope rating is too low in my opinion. Longest 5608 yard course I have ever played because depending on the hole, you may be hitting a short iron, a middle iron, a long iron and only occasionally a driver off the tee on par 4's. You need to be able to accurately curve balls in both directions to be able to play longer clubs on many of these tee shots.
The customer service was excellent, they got out out soon after we arrived. Mediocre range, mats and cannot hit longer clubs. Fun, scenic course that seeing it for a 2nd time allowed me to trim 7 shots off my 1st attempt. However, I would be hard pressed to ever shoot a great score here.
Short and testing - Ignore the yardage
Great course for all level of golfers ..... don't be fooled by the short yardage of the course. Cant even use a drive until at least the 6th and you better be straight with irons or there is trouble everywhere in early holes.
Back 9 a little more open but still a test right to the 18th.
Always great value for money and rarely have i played in over 4.5 hours, even at a weekend. The food also is exceptional
Definitely recommend
good value course
the course was in an excellent condition. Their fairways were especially nice on some holes. However, despite how short the course is, we were held up at every hole and people jumping hole to hole didn't make things any smoother either. Oh and there were some deers on the 1st hole's fairway which is always cool.
Fun course, but slow pace of play
DeBelle is a fun course, but the pace of play was fairly slow. Also the driving range was closed and looked to be under construction.
I played in the afternoon on a Thursday and it didn't seem like it should be backed up, but it was. Mostly on the front 9. The back sped up a little.
The course is narrow, so you have to aim carefully and have a bail out in case things go awry. The course is pretty good condition, but the fairways are cut pretty close, so that may cause issues for some. Also, some of the greens were a little bumpy, nothing terrible. My biggest complaint are the tee boxes. Most are not level, so you're hitting either above or below your feet, which make it a little tougher. Also as most everyone states, most holes are short, so you will be teeing off with an iron. There we're probably 4 holes that required a driver (including 1 par 3).
All in all a fun and challenging course. Will play again, but will be more prepared to wait on most holes.
18 holes in under 4 hours
Not crowded the Sunday after Independence Day. Good pace, friendly and helpful Marshals, too.
Good job improving the pace of play.
Dog Legs and more Dog Legs
DeBell is a a gem of a Muni course tucked up against the hills which adds to the course character and layout. Dog legs [both left and right] define this course and course management [if not familiarity] is a must. Greens and Fairways are always in great shape and you're sure to see a dear or two along the way. This course eats me up at times but it's still one of my favorites in the LA area.
In experienced marshal
I forgot how fun this little course was! Everything was good...greens were challenging and trees placed just right to make you think. The only downside was one of their marshals that did not know how to read the situation on the pace of play and got defensive when we asked him a question he didn't know how to answer. Then he would yell at people from across the fairway instead of riding up to them to talk to them. Isn't that what a cart is for? It was that kind of comedy all day! Too bad because it's a decent course.
Slow pace
Took almost 6 hours to finish my round , this happens every time I play here , other than pace of play course is Great , some holes need an iron off the T .... Makes it very challenging
Nice
Challenging course for beginners. Lots of OB if you're not straight. Bring extra sleeves of balls.
Challenging course
This is a very fun course to play. It's difficult to master. So challenging. The employees are so friendly.
Terrible Mother's Day Experience
Rangers were ineffective and course management unsupportive with speeding pace of place. As a 2-some, we teed off @ 9:30 a.m. behind a 3-some that was extremely slow. There were 2 holes open in front of them. It took over :35 to complete the first 2 holes. The ranger on the 2nd hole advised us that he was "watching" the group in front of us, but apparently no improvement was made in their pace of play. By the 3rd hole, that group finally caught up to the group in front of them (who were playing equally as slow) just getting to the 4th hole. We decided to skip holes 3 & 4; the pace of play was wonderful and we finished playing the remaining holes in just under 3:40.
Management allowed us to play 3 & $ suggesting that we follow the group already on the 1st, playing holes 1 thru 4. Unbelievably, this group was equally as slow and was also held up by a family of 3 in front of them. We skipped the 1st & 2nd holes and the course ranger escorted us to the 3rd to tee off ahead of the family. We completed that hole and were setting up for our approach to the 4th green, yet the family we leapfrogged had only teed off from the 3rd hole. The woman's tee shot was so errant it hit our cart. She came down onto the 4th fairway looking for her ball when I commented to her that she should have yelled "fore". Words ensued and she scolded that we should be more patient as she was a beginner. After holing out the 4th, the men behind that family were still waiting to tee; the family had not yet made it to the 3rd green. I commented to the men that they would need to call in late for work the next day. And all the while a ranger was at that tee box, apparently no action was taken to ensure that other players could expect to play 18 in a reasonable amount of time. In the parking lot, other players asked about the pace of play; I suggested that they don't play and keep their money.
I have played this course many times through the years and have bragged about it to friends; it's beautiful, ALWAYS reasonably priced, and the pace of play generally good. This was the worst ever, especially given that the course was not crowded, and that DeBell had hired more rangers, none of which were effective. Sadly, I will think long and hard before I choose this course again.
Weekend Golf
Assumed it would take a while to play this round but it took a little longer about 5 hrs and 15 min. Course plays short even from back tees and has a couple of blind shots to the greens.
Nice and challenging!
I really like this course! It has varying elevations some of which are quite scenic. It's not a very long course but it's not the easiest of courses either. You have to hit accurate shots to get around it with a decent score and you have to use good course management to score your best. I would recommend playing here if you want to test your game in those ways.
Challenging!
The overall layout of the course is great, it challenging with a moderate degree of difficulty. Most fairways are narrow, and you have to play strategically.
Definitely a must play
Nice but....
I enjoyed the pace of play until the 10th hole, when it seemed like from out of nowhere there was a huge back up. Did not see any marshals on the course. Some greens are quite small and were very fast. Overall, though, it was a nice experience and I will golf there again.
very very slow play
there was a 4some 3 groups ahead of us holding everything up. they were 3 holes behind. the marshall tried to push them to move but we were told they were playing "match play". the Marshall told them they can't do that, but they didn't seam to care. it took us 5 1/2 hrs to play 18
Still nice to play but green aeration is on evey hall.
I like play golf at De Bell GC. And the day I played was nice as usual but green condition. Aeration was every hall during the 18 hall play, even one of our member complain that it's like on desert sand to putt.
Moreover, we didn't get any information about that before we get to the green.
Except that, De Bell is one of nicest place to play golf how handicapped you are.
shot control matters
A tough course in that you can't be errant or you'll be off in the tree hazards or on a brushy cliffside... good course to keep your discipline. Not a super long course, but the terrain, the doglegs, and the trees make up for it. I always enjoy the course; if you want a workout, go ahead and walk.... but you'll either need to be in good shape already or are working on getting there... I'm i good shape and this course I tend to use a cart, though I'll walk too if my playing partner is driving. A bonus is the wildlife: hawks, deer, coyotes, and I even saw a bobcat once.
