Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course is an executive layout that is one of the area's best values. It's not a terribly formidable course but it's great for getting in some short game practice. The course is gentle enough for beginners and juniors, making it a good place for families. Opened in 1959, Rancho Carlsbad has a classic layout that is shorter and tighter than most modern golf courses. You won't come across too much trouble on this layout. There are hardly any bunkers but their absence is accommodated for with convex greens that allow the ball to run down to the other edge if you're not careful. You will also have to tee off over a stream on a few holes. Accuracy is generously rewarded but the layout isn't too punishing if you're slightly errant.

Good enough for executive course.

The front nine was really bad, a lot of bare spots, but the
back 9 was a lot nicer, pretty. If it's a little close, I would go there every Sat, when I practice on executive course.

Great for short game practice.

We went to this course because it is so hot inland in San Diego County. It was about 15 degrees cooler than inland. The course is in need of attention, but for the price I can't complain.
We enjoyed ourselves and would go back again.

Similar to playing in the backyard.

Rancho Carlsbad Golf Club may be a great place to take your kids. Pitching wedge and putter is enough, leave your bag in the car.

At first I thought - oh okay, this string of 85 yard holes is good, practice my short game. Problem is that the course condition is so poor.

Small and expensive

One hole didn't even have an actual green. It was a closely mowed patch of grass. Horrible. Will not go back - ever!

The Oaks at Welks is a much better value.

If you want golf for a little money and short amount of time hack away.

The course is 18 of the most odd length par threes you will ever play. It is in a way a very creative set up for you to hit in between clubs or short shoots. It was fun, but they need to clean up a lot of fallen leaves, branches, and twigs. It would have been nice to hear of a plugging and sanding of the greens within the past week.

OK Par 3 Course

Just a mediocre course in average condition. A good tune up for playing a full 18 hold course, but we were expecting an executive course so we were a bit disappointed. Greens are small and slow and course is in need of some attention.

I hope you like to only use a sand wedge

I live right by this course but have never been due to the price, I got a hot deal tee time so I tried it out. The longest hole is around 165 yards, there are three holes with elevation changes. Unepic
