Rancho Carlsbad Golf Course is an executive layout that is one of the area's best values. It's not a terribly formidable course but it's great for getting in some short game practice. The course is gentle enough for beginners and juniors, making it a good place for families. Opened in 1959, Rancho Carlsbad has a classic layout that is shorter and tighter than most modern golf courses. You won't come across too much trouble on this layout. There are hardly any bunkers but their absence is accommodated for with convex greens that allow the ball to run down to the other edge if you're not careful. You will also have to tee off over a stream on a few holes. Accuracy is generously rewarded but the layout isn't too punishing if you're slightly errant.

No pressure golf
It's a nice short-game course, all par 3, and not crowded even on Sunday. Good especially if you haven't played in a few months. Some really muddy spots. No water (thumbs up) but you do have to hit over the creek, not my fave. We had a great time hanging out and playing.
Great Walk On Course
Air pods in my ears, pushcart rollin’ and I am happy! This course is my local go to when I have a break in my schedule and can get away for a quick 9 holes. Friendly staff, great pricing. The only complaint is that the greens are shaped like anthills.

Extremely poor condition
The course was in very poor condition. Greens were going through aeration so they look like a sand trap growing weeds. We had to timed the sprinklers on 3 holes off the tees so we wouldn’t get wet, so we ended up rushing the tee shots.
It’s very sad to see the decay of this course. My son and I used to play there almost once a week before the pandemic and now I don’t think we’ll ever be back.

Great for beginners
This place is very friendly with lots of kids , footgolfers and seniors. This is no country club and offers a place for total beginners to play. It fills a niche needed in north county. Know what to expect and you will be fine … course is short , greens are tiny and conditions not great …. but it is filling a void. Staff are great .

Just over played, sprinklers on several holes, Dude followed us and kept cutting the grass, poor signage.

Over priced
I rarely will ever leave any negative review anywhere but felt the need to do so with this course. Super over priced for a par 3. Every green looks like either a little mountain or slope. I think 2 holes out of the whole course were actually a flat surface. If you enjoy kids screaming, greens and tee boxes so close to each other that you have to watch the group in front of you hit, just in case they thin one right into you while your putting. It happened twice today. HORRIBLE course layout. The pictures are definitely deceiving. If your not a complete beginner DO NOT go here, if you want to have the most frustrating round of your life an pay for it. Then have fun with every shot being 90 yards. If it wasn’t for the staff it be a complete fail. I literally almost walked off.
