Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Best layout in the Valley

Every hole is different and challenging. Surrounded by natural beauty and ruggedness. We have played this course since 1999 , The greens were in as good of shape as I have ever seen.

The staff are friendly helpful and most accommodating. The greens keeper and his staff …super friendly. The starter is knowledgeable and gave a lot of feedback how to play the course.

It is a links style course so don’t be hard on yourself. Take a moment and enjoy the beauty all around no matter which direction you are looking.

I know the course has struggled however I wish them all the best in the future. If you had the opportunity to play this course consider yourself one of the lucky ones and cherish the memories.

Bad layout and poor course conditions

We didn’t pay a lot for green fees but we still wouldn’t go back. In fact, we quit after 14 holes. Terrible conditions, badly marked, poor layout

Oh brother, this course stinks!

The boys & I played this course for the first & last time. It’s the desert and all but those greens were atrocious! Basically dirt for greens, that had our balls rolling off every time. We continued the round and at the turn, their bar & grill was closed for the past several weeks. Then we were told course will be closing in the next hour at 3pm!! We did not see that disclosed anywhere when booking and were not given any reason why. Perhaps the staff just wanted to go home. The only good thing about this course was the golf carts!

Disappointing

Desert Dunes has a reputation for cheap golf, decent course conditions and frequent high winds. Despite the winds it used to be a decent value because it had a challenging layout and good conditions. Not anymore, unfortunately. One of few courses without any residential so maybe lack of revenue from HOA’s is impacting resources to keep it in consideration for play. Only thing going for it now is that it’s probably the most affordable course in the valley. Won’t be going back. Rather spend more and get more.

Wide open tee times

Got out as a single at 9:15 on Sunday. Played through a foursome and a threesome along the way. Total time 3:15. No wind on this day. Course is kinda baked out right now, as they transition from winter rye to summer Bermuda grass. But the rate was OK for what it is. Greens a little bumpy here and there. I wish they would invest some of their money from a pretty busy snowbird season into an agronomist / greenskeeper, in order to get a handle on some of the clover and other weeds in the rough and through fairways to greens. There has to be a solution with all the products available. Like the red headed bearded fellow on the Scott’s commercials says: “Feed your lawn! Feed it! “.

Great Value, cute course

First time here. Friendly staff, had ice in my cart ready to go. Rustic course, dry and fast. Disappointed that there were not colored balls to purchase and the cafeteria was shut down. I would come back!

Dried out

Interesting layout but they have let this course go for the reminder of the season. Greens almost dead, dry and hard. Fairways are playable but dry as well.

Challenging Course

I have played Robert Trent Jones courses before and appreciate his challenging and narrow fairways and tough greens.

I was disappointed in the condition of this fine course. The greens were full of weeds and unwanted grasses, the bunkers were dirt and hard as rocks.

There were glimpes of quality and creativity but just glimpes. It was fine for the price but I was hoping for better.

Great Potential

Must have been taken over by a new owner or about to go under, guy in pro shop seemed out to lunch 🤷‍♂️no range balls at range, no starters? After 9 the person washing carts told us where washrooms were & they were locked??? Signs for help wanted…a little thing but in heat Big thing, no bottles of water provided, three other courses l played gave you a complementary water…traps unkept, greens had disease on them….the positive was the great layout, HUGE potential for someone with some deep pockets! And whole course needs water

Not Bad at All

Little bit of wind in the morning. It stopped after 7 holes. We Got lucky. Course conditions were not bad. One of the best layouts in the desert 🏜. Fun course when it's not blowing. Recommend downloading The Windy weather app.... it's usually about 85% dead on.

Pace of play

It was a five hour round! We waited to tee off and approach shot every hole. The young men ahead of us waited till the green was open and played the black tees even though their calibre of play was not championship. There wasn’t a course Marshall working even though we feel it was warranted. The group behind us was on our tail most of the game too!!

Awful

My wife and I played. Just the two of us. A five hour round. Never again. There were no Marshals. One person at the pro shop and another at the sign in.

5 hours. No way.
