Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Great course, but greens are a lil rough

Great course to play at for the price. Very hilly course layout made it interesting to play compared to the flatter courses I’ve played. Greens ran a lil slow and some of them had dirt spots that made the ball unpredictable. Wished green were a lil faster and better maintained, but other than that had a great time. Played a little under 5 hours for full 18 holes.

Challenging Course Layout in Very Good Condition

The course had just reopened after fall maintenance and it was in very good condition. Fairways were plush greens a little immature from recent seeding but still playable. The course is challenging but fun. The staff was super helpful and friendly. Definitely play a round again in the near future.

Great Layout - Horrible Conditions

Incredible layout with so many cool nuances. First 9 is a links style layout with water in play on a few holes and some tight fairway landings. Greens were ok but the rest of the course was in horrible shape. Over grown areas and patches of dirt throughout. Cart paths were bad and need I say the one and only golf cart left on the grounds was filthy dirty. The pro shop was non existent. One young kid was there to take my money and seemed really polite, almost like he wanted to apologize to me before I teed up on the first hole. When I finished my round I was met part way by another young man who was anxious to get my cart and shut things down. It was only 2:00. I got in my car shortly after when I realized I had found someone’s PW that was left on the 10th hole. Went back into the pro shop to turn it in and no one was there. I looked around for 5 minutes (TV’s were still on) so I gave up and left it on the counter next to where I checked in. What a shame. I read the overview of this course and was so amazed how a distinguished golf course could end up as such an eye sore. If this place had money dumped into and was turned around to original conditions it would be a terrific draw unfortunately it has died an early death!

Hidden Gem, Fun challenge.

Greens are in great condition, layout is challenging, wind can become a major factor, and great course length. Hidden Gem. Great golf.

A great value

This course is a little out of town (20 min from Palm Desert) but we’ll worth it . Great layout, (RT Jones) and in good shape for this time of year in the desert. The greens were as good as any I have played at this time of year in the desert. At this time you can get a good deal and no crowds. The only thing is to check the wind forecast, it can get windy and then it is more challenging. Staff was friendly as well.

This course is a great value

Overall course condition was nice except greens are rough and bumpy. Great layout and tremendous views of mountains and desert. Enjoyed windless round with no one behind me… great value course!

Abysmal conditions

Absolutely crappy conditions. Tee box weeds so high that they hit your driver. Very little green in the fairways. Cheesy carts…no tees, no gps, Had to load and unload own bags at bag drop. Overall pretty miserable. Good news was there was water every few holes for drinking and the layout/design was incredible. Would love to play it again in the winter when it is in better condition.

Real improvement

I play here all the time but I’m writing this as a specific shoutout to the job ownership and the groundskeepers are doing. I paid over $60 for a popular course in town the other day and it wasn’t nearly as clean as Desert Dunes. It’s still very much a work in progress but it’s headed in the right direction and I think it’s the best value in the valley. Also, the staff is always super friendly

Really bad management

I played this course for the first time and it is in horrible condition! It has a good layout but it’s not maintained well at all, long weeds in the fairways and just generally poor upkeep.

Out of Season/In season

The layout of the course was wonderful and it tracked most excellently requiring both fades and draws off the tee box. Would love to see this course in season with the greens at their best and also would love to play it with the wind less than 20 mph sustain gusting to 30. It is a brute with the wind.. They need to have a combo yardage between the 6250 (W) and 5359 (Silver)
