Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Not good

Two words: Stay away. Rude starter, scabby greens, scabby fairways, slow play, worst experience i’ve had in PS.

Too Windy

As is often the case here, it was too windy to get a decent score - a constant 25 mph wind with gusts to 35 mph at least. Still, when the wind is 10 mph or less, this is an excellent course, and certainly underrated in the Coachella Vslley.

Avoid the bunkers

Course is good but the bunkers, despite their appearances, are very bad. No sand, hard surface.

Thought other players were whining

I admit, I did not take seriously the reviews that trashed this course. Having now played it, I wish I had listened to them. The fairways were ok and the rough is rough… it’s not supposed to be easy. However the greens were atrocious. I don’t know if it is a fungus but there is something growing on the greens that makes them horrible. On top of the growth, the greens were uneven and really should be redone. Sorry to have to leave such a scathing review. .

Disappointed

What used to be a friendly place to visit and a treat to play has really gone downhill. Staff at the pro shop couldn’t care less and the greens were absolutely a mess. I have recommended this course to so many people over the years but never again.

I love the layout. The wind added to the challenge. Will surely comeback and play again.

Great views

Our day was nice. Wind picked up mid afternoon. Fairways green and fluffy due to recent rains. We weren’t disappointed for the price we paid.

Everything was OKAY.

Course is in reasonable shape. Clubhouse is clean. Staff is friendly. Washrooms were messy..Portable washrooms on the course were very dirty and unsanitary.. Ballwashers were dry, somewhat useless.. This course is located on a wind tunnel, if it’s a breezy day, wouldn’t recommend playing here.

Disappointing

A great layout marred by lack of maintenance. Sand bunkers were devoid of "sand". Many were muddy and unplayable. The greens were bumpy and short putts were " hit it and hope" the ball wobbled into the cup. Tee boxes were uncut and furry. The Carts were not very clean and ours had not be tidied up from the previous occupants.

Overall, it was a very disappointing round of golf. It was extremely windy, but that is what you get up there, north of the freeway. It is to be expected. However, for $80.00, one would think a course would provide a better experience. My recommendation would be to go elsewhere. I will never go back there.

Pass

The course was in horrible condition with weeds and long grass in fairways and horrible putting greens. This is a sad, old course with no TLC. The staff was very friendly.

Over priced

Paid $106 to play this course and $65 for other that were comparable. Visiting a long time resident who played with me and he agrees that this course is way overpriced..

Little Rough Around The Edges

I suppose you "get what you pay for," but this facility is not up to par with the quality of courses in the Coachella Valley. My day started with the saddest bucket of range balls I've ever seen, Total trash. Driving range is off grass with desert targets. It's bare bones, but sufficient.

Played with a lovely Canadian couple—Don and Pat. The course itself is in fair shape. There are some rough patches on the fairways as well as the greens, making it feel like a low-end muni course. Overall, it feels like this place is suffering from some management neglect. Don't see the pride of ownership like other areas courses.

As is often the case here, the wind was blowing hard all day, with gust up to 25-30 mph. 2-4 club wind depending on the direction. Very tough to score.

The pace was fine, despite an apparent 8-some in front of us, who we passed at the turn. Beverage cart was out and available.

If you're on a tight budget, Desert Dunes might be an option. But for a few more dollars, I'd recommend places like Tahquitz Creek or Cimarron.

Great place for a warm up, but terrible greens

It was a great round to warm up on, with great weather and definitely rolling hills. But the greens were totally a mess and you couldn't putt straight if you had to. Pace of play was slow. But all-in-all, it was a nice round to get all the kinks out.
