Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Terrible sand traps

Wind was much higher than forecast when I made my reservation. Staff offered me a rain check, but I drove 1.5 hours to get there and wanted to play before it got too hot. Sand traps are garbage. Need to rake them deeper to break up the hard pack and mud. Many of the greens are small or narrow. Several had issues with the grass and they were slow, so the break was less than what you might expect. Any ball off the fairway is lost. Don't even look for it.

Wind was blowing 30+ miles per hour. Unplayable in my opinion. fortunately was able to reschedule. Weather report says it’s still going to be 20 miles an hour on the day we’re going to play. Guess you shouldn’t play a valley course at all.

Unplayable

When the Wind is Blowing and it does, a lot. Stay away. Save your money. Couldn’t even finish.

Nice course

Course was nice, it was an interesting contrast between the front and back 9. The front felt like a true desert course, but then the back almost felt like a very tree heavy course that you don’t typically find in the desert. Overall nice course and will play here again for sure.

Nice Layout

Played here quite a few times. The course layout it nice, very straight but still need to get in good positions around the greens. Greens were slow and the fairways could definitely use some work. Pace of play was a bit slow this time but usually moves along at a good pace. Will play here again for the layout and relatively cheap greens fee.

Good Course, Zero Headaches/Issues

I don't review often but because of the crazy amount of overcrowding that golf has continued to have, I figured I would shout this place out. "Hidden gem" is a good way to describe this place.

Pace was perfect, just under 4 hours for a 4 some. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The layout was pretty open and friendly, some blind shots but you hit to open areas with some room. Blacks are not as difficult as may seem, course feels like it plays way shorter than its yardage.

Tee boxes and fairways were in good condition, the greens were pretty pathetic. The greens were long, shaggy, spongey, 5-7 types of grain/grass on them it seemed like, and felt like they were rolling at a 5.

Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quick, solid round with minimal to zero headaches.

played the resort course again.. great track

this is second time on the resort course.. green, fairways, etc all green and lush.

greens were rolling fast and true..

good overall track with some interesting holes. can be a "bear" from the back but with 5 sets of tees that is not a problem. Would expect no less from a Arnold Palmer course.

thanks for a great day.

side note.. got me an eagle on hole 6 the par 5.. was hitting a 9 iron in and with pin in center, hit on front edge and rolled in the hole.. had 2 witnesses as well..

A shame

Worked at DDunes in 1997 and have played it maybe a hand full of times since. It has gone way down hill since it’s obvious glory days. I have heard new ownership who isn’t involved and doesn’t spend money on improving conditions. This was a $175.00 green fee back in the day and the tee sheet was full. Only reason there were a handful of tee times the day I played is because they were running a deal for $39.00. Great layout, very challenging from back tees. Would love to see this course in good shape again.

It was a fun course to play. We have played it 4 times over the last few years. The only thing that we think needs is more and better sand in all the traps.
