Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Course maintenance does not match the design

Course has a nice lay-out with several really challenging holes. But the maintenance is poor, high and uneven grass on tees, fairways nearly ok, but the greens are really not good with lot’s of patches, slow uneven and bumpy. Club house is not attractive to have a drink and/or bite after the game. A pity!

Challenging layout

Got out past noon on a perfect 78:degree day. No wind. Paired up with another single. Got around in 4& 1/2 hours, understandably crowded in peak season. Course is in decent shape for the rate. Don’t understand the negative reviews. If you want a $350 golf experience, they are available. Go for it.

MW

I like the course in general. There wasn't a ranger/marshal on the course during my round. As a result, there were a number of times that I waited on a tee box or in the fairway to make a shot.

The bunkers quite frankly were a mess. Some had standing water and others were mostly mud.

Great Layout Poor Greens

Loved the layout but the grass on most of the greens was inconsistent and made the greens quite bumpy and lacking a true roll that you could count on. Felt like making even a short putt was goin to involve some luck.

Worst experience ever

We booked a 1240 tee time so we could get done by dark. Nightmare started right away when we went to first tee and the said to us the pro shop let a group off the street bud in our tee time. There was 4 riders but only 3 players playing and they said they were going to play best ball so they would be fast. After the first hole they played regular golf and all four players were playing the fourth player was having to use golf clubs from the other cart because he was left handed. He would walk across the fairway the get club , walk back and hit his ball then walk back over to return club, then walk back over to his cart again very hard to watch this all day. At the tenth tee they were 2 holes behind and showing no sign of picking it up so we could all get done.

The course conditions were very poor. The grass was poor and we had to play bump your ball every where. The sand traps were unplayable

and most of them were full of water from over watering and thoughs that had no water puddles in them were not sand traps but more like mud traps. Greens look like there is no re seeding happening there and they were slow, very spotty and putts were bouncing.

Had to finish in the total dark after we asked the group in front of us to pick it up. It turned in to a yelling match from the four younger golfer in front who also slowed down and tryed to intimidate us. The worst golf experience ever I would NOT RECOMMEND THIS COURSE

Not worth time nor $ until course condition improves

I've played this course many times before and I've played all kinds of courses but this was the worse conditioned course I've ever played. The fairway consisted of weeds and clover. The greens were clumps of three or four different grasses, weeds, and dirt.

Don't bother until they take course management seriously. I wished I took pictures.

Desert Dunes, Cathedral City, Ca

The course was in terrible shape, especially for the price we paid...85. I worked have expected a lot better conditions.

Amazing Course

Hidden gem the way golf should be. Super reasonable price for an amazing course. Not your typical condo-lined resort course. Maintenance could be better, many sand traps unplayable. Not windy day we played. Lots of wildlife, road runners, bunnies and three lynx. One even played with my golf ball! Would come back. Not an inviting clubhouse for apres-golf.

Challenging but fair.

Fun layout, green complexes demand accurate approach shots, or tough up/downs.

Nice track

First time playing this course and we were impressed overall. Don’t be fooled by the condition of the first two holes, it gets better as you get further into your round. Lots of clover on the first hole and the green isn’t in good shape. But holes 3-18 are in much better condition. A few blind tee shots, but you can check the small map on the scorecard. Staff were friendly in the pro shop and restaurant area. For under $100 this course was a good challenge and fun to play.

Tough RTJ track

Conditions were fine for early January.. The front nine is scorable, but the back is really challenging with many landing zones pinched. Play when the wind is light.
