Desert Dunes Golf Course

About
Desert Dunes Golf Course has a unique layout that combines a traditional links design with true desert-style golf. The course winds through natural sand dunes that are accented with mature trees and an abundance of native vegetation. It offers one of the most challenging rounds in the valley with narrow fairways, dramatic elevation changes, and fast, sloped greens. Collection areas and strategically placed bunkers border the greens. The most interesting of these bunkers can be found on the ninth and 18th holes where it sits in the center of the signature double green. There are also water hazards that come into play on several holes. In addition to the challenging round, the golf course offers scenic views of the surrounding mountains as well as the opportunity to play amongst wildlife including rabbits, roadrunners, bobcats, and even the occasional desert kit fox.

Peaceful round
They have a small but very nice staff. You can tell the place has had financial difficulties but looks to be on the rebound. It is a great value for the money if you use a hot deal. We played early and it took about 3 hrs. Fast greens. Tough bunkers. A great challenge.
Lots of clover patches making it difficult to find the ball when hit in the rough. Would recommend the course for <$50.
Bar and Grill experience
We met up with our golfing friends after their round at the Desert Dunes Bar and Grill. After checking the menu on their website, I was interested in the fool and prices were reasonable. I tried to phone them but discovered their hours vary and they did not answer the phone. When we got there the staff were friendly but the prices were inflated 90% for both food and beer and they do not do happy hour anymore. This is false advertising. Only good thing about it was the covered patio.
Fun Track
This course was fun to play. Good layout and in decent early season condition. Greens were fast and undulating providing ample challenge even for the most skilled player. I would play here again.
Very good intro to Palm Springs golf
Really liked the course. A fair test of golf all around. I was surprised that the traps were hard given the free desert sand all around.
Fun, tough, and a little bit for everyone
Really friendly staff, played the 18 by myself, and finished under 3 hours. The other golfer on the course were really nice and allowed me to play through. The course layout was a lot fun, some tight holes to measure your accuracy of the tee, several tiered greens, if you are on the correct tier putts were pretty straight, greens were in decent shape running at an 11. Several holes with a good drive can become a birdie opportunity.
Wind Tunnel Golf Course
Second time playing Desert Dunes (last time was before Covid). Friendly staff and Grant Fuhr is a great host. HOWEVER, the course is in poor shape, particularly the sand traps which had virtually no sand and often a small pool of water. Many tee boxes and fairways were patchy and uneven. This is a shame because it's a good RTJ design and would be a gem if it was in better shape. But more than anything else, the wind was brutal even though the Palm Desert forecast called for light winds. Easily 2 or 3 club winds which made for extremely challenging golf. This was also our experience last time and if you are considering playing anywhere north of I-10, be prepared to deal with these conditions.
Course is in great shape!
We enjoyed our round. Finished in 3.5 hours. The weather was great so it made the round perfect. Staff were great, we didn’t use any other amenities.
This trip to Course was best experienced. The excessive wind in the past made the course un playable.
First tee time so pace was great
Great course NO houses. Greens were great. Played at sunrise it was beautiful.
A bit rough and unkept on the sides
I recommend this course for the better players and not for beginners! The wind is a huge factor on this side of the valley so check conditions first before heading out! The course has a good design and yet feels a bit tight for the length. The greens in good shape and fairly small and elevated. Played in the fall but I recommend calling to ask condition of the course for all the variables like overseeing or sanded greens. The rough is unkept and eats golf balls so bring a few extra for you first time around. The course conditions remind me of the entrance a bit rough on the sides but overall decent being a boulevard entrance it is hard to spot the signs with no warning! Overall a good golfer’s only course for the price this can be subjective and yet the location is in the sorta bad area meaning desert hot springs is mostly for the working class on the windy side of the Coachella valley there are fewer courses on this side. The rain check policy in pretty much no unless bad weather so be prepared to finish or ask to play nine before the add nine if allowed.
In the windy side of the valley in the low rent district
I do recommend this course only when there is little or no wind! The layout is tight though the dunes with no houses but plenty of unforgiving rough to loose golf balls. The greens are nice but small with plenty of undulation and set up elevated, Believe this is a good players type golf course design with very tight narrow fairways and is for shot makers only with the wind being a huge factor! Play at your own risk meaning no rain check policy except for bad weather seemed a bit harsh for the location and difficulty, but if your playing well with you game on this is a fun layout with decent pace of play and a somewhat friendly staff. Expect to be paired up during busy times and or the course entrance says allot about the conditions being a bit unkept and hard to see as you approach from the roadway. The course did have some weeds and lots of rough overall feels a bit running late down! Play only in season, conditions vary.
Great day
Played this course many times and it is great value for money and an enjoyable round as long as it’s not windy!!
High, high winds!
I do not recommend this course, it is at the base of the mountains and next to a windmill farm and it is windy all day every day. Don’t play this course. Period!
Course needs TLC but played Ok
This RTJ Jr course is an interesting layout northwest of Palm Springs. The clubhouse is decent. Thoughts on the course and experience follow:
Driving Range: Decent turf to hit off. The landing area is desert and visually challenging to know how far you hit the ball.
Course conditions: Lots of weeds throughout the course on fairways and especially the rough. The greens were decent. Sand traps were inconsistent. Many of the fairways are elevated and balls hit off the fairway wind up in collection areas. These can be hit from. Cart paths and surrounding areas are patchy.
Staff: The staff at the course were both informal, friendly and helpful.
Highlights: The 2nd half of the 16th hole is stunning. An absolutely beautiful risk-reward par 5 - well landscaped with desert plants, a waterfall (not running at the time we played) and large pond to the right. The 9th and 18th holes share a gigantic green with about a 7-8 foot big slope between them sloping down to the 18th hole.
Recommendation: Having a hand-held GPS with views of the holes is helpful as several holes have bends in them that wind up bringing desert shrubbery into play if you don't hit it in the right area.
NO HOUSES
First group out played 3.25 hrs. Saw coyotes, Linx, ducks and road runners. Shot makers course. Greens rolled great. Best of all NO HOUSES!!
