Great Golf, but crowded
My first time golfing at Chastain Park. Got paired with 3 ‘Ambassadors’ that work there and play there 3-4 times a week. Great guys! Super helpful with course layout and tips. The course was everything I hoped for, except pace of play. This is a very popular course, but it took over 5 hours to play, w/no break.
I said I wasn’t going to come back… ever
But….. they pulled me back in!
Chastain used to be in such disrepair. Dilapidated carts with torn up seats. A clubhouse with ZERO concessions (not even water). Greens in need of repair, fairways that resembled a dust bowl and tee boxes hard as pavement. Not to mention, no way to warm up before a round.
All of these line items have been addressed and the course is once again enjoyable to play and one of the best values around. Greens and fairways are green and maintained. You’re able to push a tee into a tee box and tees are marked well, a 200, 150, and 100 yard mark along the path and in the fairways as well. Hitting cage nets next to the first tee have been added for warm up. Carts are clean and maintained. Marshals routinely checking pace of play to keep the game moving. The clubhouse has concessions! My only critique would be to make sure the cart sand caddies are filled on all the carts. I checked 7 carts for a full container to switch mine out with and all were empty. Finally asked for help in getting a sand refill and the container was only 1/3 full. It helps to have sand readily available if you expect players to consistently repair/fill divots to help keep the course maintained.
Kudos to the City for turning things around! I’m actually looking forward to my next round here again
Paying for convenience. Not quality
Atlanta public golf courses are few and far between. With that, they get quite a lot of usage and the course simply cannot keep up. Greens are extremely slow, fairways have puddles after a little rain, and tee boxes could use a lot of love so you’re not having to hit out of a dirt mound. That said, you get what you pay for which in my opinion is the convenience of staying inside of Atlanta and not having to drive an hour outside of the city to find a decent course.
ok
1/2 of the tee boxes were OK, the other 1/2 not in good shape. Fairways and greens OK. Pace of play has always been an issue. Get ready for a 5 hour plus round even on weekdays
Ugly day
Course is not maintained like it used to be.. pace of play was horrific with GROUPS of 1 walking and others holding up the pace of play. Staff was extremely friendly and nice and tried to make a bad situation as good as they could.
Pace of Play Kills
The course is really not too bad, set up fine, some holes make you think about your shot; overall decent for an Atlanta public course. However, there hasn’t been a round I’ve played here less than 5.5 hours. Too many people with walking carts who play incredibly slow, no enforcement of pace, borderline makes you want to quit your round — which I’ve had to do before because I was stacked 3 groups back at the #10 tee. If pace of play improved i would play here a lot more often.
Nice to work on game
The course had a few wet area areas however overall in good condition. Super busy after a frost delay. Luckily I was paired with some nice people
