5 some
Usually they don’t let it but today there were. I’m on balboa hole 4 (par 3) for 35 minutes with 3 groups behind us… always slow but this is ridiculous
Excellent city course
Course was in great condition
Very tough greens for a high handicapper
A bit thin and getting rough around the edges as it were
Usually the Balboa greens are better than Encino. But it’s seeing the same kind of weird bumpy and wavy scarring from not being cut and rolled properly. The whole place is starting to look and feel tattered like it used to from the drought days and we’re about to hit some more drought, so it’s not good. Again nobody rakes bunkers and some of them are looking really bad, around the edges of them are frayed and dried out and staring to crust away.
It’s not a good sign. Really never got enough rain again, and the course is only going to get worse. Can’t recommend it at the moment.
Bang for the buck
Traditional style course that is run by a city parks program that does not fund enough to keep it up. The pur price is cheap and you get what you pay for....
Greens had many less marks than they usually are peppered with. That was nice. No bunkers hit all day so I can’t comment on the sand. Was paired with a chill group of guys, had a great time. I personally prefer the Encino layout but Balboa is fun as well. Oh, playing partners ball got chewed up on hole four by the mower. Punishment for not hitting the green I guess haha
