Can’t. I just can’t.
2 and a half hours for the front 9.
Course in horrendous condition. One more lack of maintenance type situation and it’ll be like that infamous Victoria place in Carson. It’s getting close to that. What’s worse is, greens are horrible here, whereas the greens are good there, albeit there’s no grass there! But Balboa is getting close to dying.
Can’t. I just can’t rate it any higher today.
Playing as first twilight time I thought for sure we would finish well in time. But nope!
Several groups ahead of us, there was a group of “vacationers” we thought, may be. They certainly were not golfers, but absolute hackers. Novices who don’t play golf. They were 2 hole behind!!! And what’s worse is, the group behind that and the group behind that also had the same type of people, none of whom know anything about golf therefore nothing about Pace of Play, nothing about etiquette. They held up the entire field. I’m sorry but it’s unconscionable. It really is.
It was dark when we got to 16. I couldn’t believe it.
Can’t. I just can’t rate it any higher. Greens were mush. Not cut, not rolled. They were shaggy.
There were so many areas that had been over-watered that were absolute mud piles, even though it had not rained!!! They are barely roped off so people just drive thru them and rip up the turf.
They’ve given up trying to grow the grass on 3, so they removed the protected ropes and then cut the grass so it’s just back to dirt!!! Absurd!!
How about roping off the right side of the green at 14???? That is bare ground and it’s been that way for what, 20 years???? TWENTY YEARS!!!!!
If they don’t start taking care of this place it will end up like Victoria. And if that’s what they want do they can build houses or whatever - well you know the government better than me.
Very good course, however!
Great course to play, the only issue is that there are too many players walking. The pace of the game is slower than normal.
POP was horrendous. On a Monday!!!
Worst pace of play ever.
We were the first couple of twilight tee times and we did not finish. Barely got to 16 and it was too dark to the 17. It’s a Monday y’all. The Thanksgiving holiday ended on Sunday. I would have understood it if it was a Sunday.
It’s a total disgrace
Comment about the Driving Range
Now that we are back to Normal Time, having gone into winter and got rid of Daylight Savings Time, it gets dark at 5.
So we need LIGHTS at the range.
The LA City courses in the recent couple years have put in effort to keep the courses playing, new carts, new reservation system, and new range ball dispensing machine with the card or App.
However - why are the driving range flood lights so poor? Why have they never been fixed? Sure, back before Covid, turn out was bad. Hardly anybody played golf. Range was never crowded day, and definitely not at night. But now, it is. It’s packed all day. And people still want to hit balls at night, after they get off work. It might be nice to come to the range where the lights actually work. Half the flood lights are dead. The whole right side hand corner is not even lit. People are forced to wait for a spot to clear where there is some light, because they don’t want to hit balls in the dark. But even those spots are not lit very well. How about changing those bad fluorescent lights to bright daylight ones so it’s a bit more lit. And how about fixing all those high flood lights so we can see??? That whole right side corner is ridiculous. And either way, with so many people there, it might be nice to have more light for security anyway.
How about it, Sepulveda? You’ve tried to fix everything else. You’ve got a nice shop now.
Now it’s time to fix that range. Please fix the lighting
Many patches being fixed, at least
Compared to Encino, some of the old dead patches had been roped off to let the grass grow back again. They tried it before? But they never looked after those areas so they went dead again - lets hope they look after the place this time. There are still plenty of areas that need repair, presuming they’ll get to those eventually. So overall a bit better than Encino, but only marginally. Greens are better as always on Balboa though. More fun because the greens are better
Balboa
Fairways are in terrible condition, greens are okay except for the old pin locations are very visible and raised so putting was tricky when the ball hit the raised green. Pace of play was good course needs more attention.
GREENS A LITTLE WET
EVERYTHING WAS GREAT, THE GREENS had a little to much water on them. BUT overall great course
