Very good course, however!
Great course to play, the only issue is that there are too many players walking. The pace of the game is slower than normal.
POP was horrendous. On a Monday!!!
Worst pace of play ever.
We were the first couple of twilight tee times and we did not finish. Barely got to 16 and it was too dark to the 17. It’s a Monday y’all. The Thanksgiving holiday ended on Sunday. I would have understood it if it was a Sunday.
It’s a total disgrace
Comment about the Driving Range
Now that we are back to Normal Time, having gone into winter and got rid of Daylight Savings Time, it gets dark at 5.
So we need LIGHTS at the range.
The LA City courses in the recent couple years have put in effort to keep the courses playing, new carts, new reservation system, and new range ball dispensing machine with the card or App.
However - why are the driving range flood lights so poor? Why have they never been fixed? Sure, back before Covid, turn out was bad. Hardly anybody played golf. Range was never crowded day, and definitely not at night. But now, it is. It’s packed all day. And people still want to hit balls at night, after they get off work. It might be nice to come to the range where the lights actually work. Half the flood lights are dead. The whole right side hand corner is not even lit. People are forced to wait for a spot to clear where there is some light, because they don’t want to hit balls in the dark. But even those spots are not lit very well. How about changing those bad fluorescent lights to bright daylight ones so it’s a bit more lit. And how about fixing all those high flood lights so we can see??? That whole right side corner is ridiculous. And either way, with so many people there, it might be nice to have more light for security anyway.
How about it, Sepulveda? You’ve tried to fix everything else. You’ve got a nice shop now.
Now it’s time to fix that range. Please fix the lighting
Many patches being fixed, at least
Compared to Encino, some of the old dead patches had been roped off to let the grass grow back again. They tried it before? But they never looked after those areas so they went dead again - lets hope they look after the place this time. There are still plenty of areas that need repair, presuming they’ll get to those eventually. So overall a bit better than Encino, but only marginally. Greens are better as always on Balboa though. More fun because the greens are better
Balboa
Fairways are in terrible condition, greens are okay except for the old pin locations are very visible and raised so putting was tricky when the ball hit the raised green. Pace of play was good course needs more attention.
GREENS A LITTLE WET
EVERYTHING WAS GREAT, THE GREENS had a little to much water on them. BUT overall great course
Balboa golf course
The course is in average shape. The pace of play was kind of slow, but overall it was a good experience. Would recommend.
You know what the place needs? More bunkers. Oh that’s right….
…../ they removed a lot of bunkers in the recent years. Over the last 3 or 4 years they’ve given up maintaining the traps, and they even removed some of them to make the course easier, so they also adjusted the handicap index for the course. That’s right - for those of you who are new, the right side of #1 is supposed to be OB, as crossing that rough on the right would put you on Encino in the line of fire of Encino #9, it’s meant to be OB because it’s the course next door and it’s dangerous to go hitting the ball over there. By the way, if you do hit the ball over there, you’re in the right of way of THAT fairway, so you’re supposed to wait for that group to finish teeing off before you go trudging over there, because it’s their hole. That’s part of the etiquette, and it will help you with your pace of play as that will happen to you and you don’t want to be waiting on the tee to hit your shot when some punk crosses into your fairway to hit theirs.
Can you belied they charge you the same price for less maintenance??? They have several fewer bunkers and yet they charge you the same as if they were maintaining them. And they don’t even maintain the remaining ones that exist. Unconscionable.
POP was bad due to a couple of hacker groups who had nobody in front of them but didn’t bother playing fast to keep it moving so everybody else were backed up behind them.
Just a typical day on a LA City course. They barely water the course, which is weird since we have so much water after the rains. So many of the usual dead spots.
