Welk Resort San Diego - Fountains Executive Course
About
The Fountain is one of two 18-hole golf courses at the Welk Resort San Diego. The other course, the Oaks, is an 18-hole, par-3 course that is great short-game practice for all skill levels. Although the Fountain is an executive-length course, it is as formidable as most full-length golf courses. Even low handicappers will be tested by the narrow layout, which covers a variety of elevation changes that range from subtle to dramatic. In addition to a slew of strategically placed bunkers and trees that demand accuracy, water hazards also come into play on a few holes. There are many risk-reward opportunities throughout the course where good strategy will reap many benefits. The golf course has some tricky holes but it is not overly punishing, making it more approachable for a wide range of skill levels.

Short but fun
This course is very well maintained. Only 'bad' thing is if you tend to hit the ball offline, there are a lot of condos you can smack. But the green are good, the holes are different and fun and the surroundings are beautiful. Don't much care for the first hole since you're not really warmed up and there is no driving range, but hit it to the right and you won't wash your ball on the very first shot. Good bunkers if you're unlucky enough to find one. Played behind a slow two-some, but still got done in 3 hours.
Best Bang For Your Buck
In all seriousness, this is a really well maintained course. Small, but not par 3. Great for your med to short game and getting more accurate on your long game. Great Greens. Everything about this place is relaxed, the only problem was on the last 4 holes, it got a little backed up. But before that it was smooth sailing. I can’t talk enough about how well maintained the course is. The restaurant nearby doesn’t have a lot to choose from, but I had some wings and they were actually really good. Pro Shop was very polite and accommodating. Every once in a while you actually have a Spectator or 3 watching you from the rooms but I think it’s aweosme for giving a little pressure. Don’t let it be a negative because the only way you know they are there is if you look. All guests were quiet. Not the place to let your driver fly on most homes, and get a lot of range in, but it’s very good for your woods and irons. If you’re on the fence, definitely give it a go. It was nice to play a full challenging round with out it taking all day.
Outstanding time on a beautiful day. We'll be back!
Excellent day in paradise
Great staff, well managed by starter and challenging course!
Course in good condition
Great time out on a Sunday
Little slow but not terribly slow.
Staff very helpful and friendly
Always a Great Place to Play
Two choices. I go with the Fountain since it has plenty of par 4's. Par 62 Course, A couple of the par 4's can be reached with a good drive, so if you can belt them, wait until people are off the greens. I nailed a 3-wood off the tee on #16 and almost made the green. There were people still on the green. Oops.
Greens and traps are in excellent shape. Most tee boxes are too. Some fairways are a little beat up especially #2, so may want to allow for winter rules on the fairway.
Personnel are great and helpful. Well stocked club house. Nice little snack bar on the turn always staffed by very nice people.
Easy to access off I15. Welk Resort also has other amenities that may be of interest to the non0=-golfing types (we have seen a couple of plays there).
$32 for the round with cart is a pretty darn good deal.
Fun Coarse
I like playing Fountains at Welk resort because of the well kept conditions or the coarse and, me living in Murrieta, the neutral location of having friends from San Diego meet me there to play.
Incident
I’ve been golfing at at Welk for years.
Unfortunately we had a bad experience my friend almost got hit by a golfer. We were walking around for the green. The golfer tee’d off and did it on purpose. We complained and found out that he was an employee. Yet know one knew his name to get a formal complaint. I don’t think I will be coming back to Welk for a long time as a JC Member.
Nothing was done about the incident and I don’t feel safe coming back.
Second Time, Same Great Experience!
I'm a higher handicapper and first played the Fountains Course on a Thursday in March earlier this year. This executive style course provided me with a nice mix of challenge and fun. I was surprised how much better the course conditions were here than at my local courses, especially in the Fall after a hot, dry Summer. The hospitality of everyone from the starter "Jim" to the folks in the Pro Shop was top drawer. Saturday play, as expected, was slower than the Thursday we played before-- but we still finished 18 holes in a little over 3 hours and 15 minutes. I look forward to playing here again.
Great course
Had a great time. Course is in great condition. The greens are slow but nice... Will definitely be back...
Love the layout/ Not too long for me/ love the dry heat
The layout is perfect for men and women, all ages, but specially for seniors. I thought for a moment I was in Palm Desert or Palm Springs while playing this course !
We drive 100 miles to the resort, but it's worth the drive!
Great Course
This is an excellent course. I’ve played this course many times over the years. It’s always in great shape.
The Welk's course is beautiful.
I have played at Welk's many times, however it had been about 6 months since I last golfed there. The course is very well maintained and in great condition. I can certainly tell the difference with JC Golf taking over the course. We were paired with another couple and that made for good conversation. We really enjoyed our round.
Great Par 3 course
I have played quite a few par 3 courses in San Diego County and this is one of the top 5. It is fun, challenging and nestled in the right location. Not to much wind and when the sun comes out it is gorgeous. Greens played fairly fast for being a little damp (not an issue here) they where very well maintained as was the course on the whole. I highly recommend any amateur to semi-pro to try it out. It will definitely help your short game.
Fountains Course April 5th
Took two friends who played for the first time. They totally enjoyed it. It was a perfect day for golf and being with friends at a very nice course.
Great Executive Course
Lawrence Welk's Fountain course is the perfect mix of par 3s and intermediate par 4s to produce an enjoyable round. We were pleasantly surprised that the course was wide open on Easter Sunday so we breezed through in 2-hours. The course was in excellent condition and over all it was great fun. I even birdied #9 which made my day.
Beautiful course,great short game workout.
If you like to use your driver this is not the course for you..lol.. but if you enjoy giving your irons both big and small a good solid workout and also appreciate challenging deep roughs amongst beautiful scenery.. then I highly recommend this pretty little course off the avocado Highway in North County San Diego. Greens were heavy but still nicely playable.
Rambo
A fun course to start the season with a great variety of par 3's and 4's. Considering it's an executive course the layout is top notch. We had a great day, and would recommend this course to anyone.
