Gilroy Golf Course
About
It might not have a lot of competition, but Gilroy Golf Course dubs itself as the "Best 11-Hole Golf Course in America." Built by local farmers and businessmen in 1923, this unique 11-hole routing east of Santa Cruz features small greens and wide, tree-lined fairways set along the Uvas Valley that has changed very little since its founding. Though not a full 18, the golf course is still plenty challenging, including the 245-yard par-3 8th hole, a scenic tee shot considered to be the course's signature. Gilroy Golf Course has suitable BBQ and outing facilities for larger groups.

Worth the time!!!
Good course to spend the day. the 17th and 18th holes IMHO are the best playing holes. The 17th is a par 5 heading straight up the hill to a two tier green. Then it is off to the small birds nest T-Box for the 18th overlooking the southern valleys with a steep downhill 260 yard par 3, overshoot and can drive over the highway, so need to take care of club selection.
Brace yourself
Some of the most rough and bumpy fairways I've played in a long time. Brace yourself so you don't have your back blown out by the gopher holes. Cart paths in decent shape but the fairways are crazy bumpy, tee box grass is long and tee boxes are tired. Fun layout, fair price for the quality of the tee boxes and how destroyed the fairways are.
Interesting Bargain
This course is a little rough around the edges, but is nestled in a beautiful setting . The fairways are a bit narrow and the tee boxes a bit shaggy, however the quirkiness has some charm. Most of the back 9 is played again on holes 1-7, then 17 and 18 have their own place.
Interesting Course
This is a interesting small 11 hole course - repeat first 7 holes twice with a very interesting 9 and 18 hole - big drop from top of the hill. Course condition is decent, but couple greens are so close to each other. Players are usually nice, and I have seen very beginners more often than other courses. I am taking about players can's even hit ball in three tries, not to mention hitting balls all over the places and keep looking for balls. :( But it's not a bad deal to play a round for about $40 on a weekend day. Greens are very small and pretty smooth, but pretty slow.
fairways not in good shape, off the fairway, grass way too thick , should be marked out of bounds
A hidden gem ...
While Ive lived in the area for many years and golfed at many of the local courses (Monterey Bay/Gilroy/Hollister), this was my first time here at Gilroy Golf Course, The staff were awesome and very friendly with good knowledge of the course. I liked that several of the holes were used twice with two holes (one "Cardiac Hill" and the other the 18th signature hole) only played once. The course was in great condition considering we'd had several days of rain and winds. The greens were good ... not too fast nor too slow ... with good feel and roll. I would definitely recommend adding this course for play if you're in the area.
Confusing layouts and sometimes dangerous
Many of the holes are shared so when it becomes crowded 2 groups of people may be playing on the same fairway and on the same green.
While we were teeing off from hole 13, an errand ball from someone teeing off from hole 14 went pass me almost hitting the back of my next with less than in inch to spare, and almost hit the nose of another player in my group. One of us if not both could have been in serious injury. I think they need to move the tee off point for hold 14 forward to avoid such problem because there are trees in between the two tee off but not enough to shield all the balls when this happens again.
Hole 18 is also another dangerous hold because group from hole 9 could hit towards the shared green without good view of the green.
This course gives you a little bit of everything.
Fun course to practice on or play with family and friends. Nice carts and good practice areas.
Grill seems to be always open and has one of the best breakfast burritos around. Nice clean honest course.
Great course for a great price
Very friendly staff , greens have a lot of action, overall very impressed
