Beautiful course in the pines
The course is challenging with ample fairways, but with difficult fringe areas. While reading the course for the most part is pretty straight forward, there are real danger areas due to side opes, trees and other obstructions. I tend to play mid to late morning or early afternoon. The golf course is rarely stacked up with golfers during these time periods. Golf Moose and TeeOff have discounts that make playing the course more affordable. There are good lunches and a full bar to enhance your experience. It's also a great course to come and play when Valley courses are fogged in. Alta Sierra is above the figure in the winter.
Condition
Course needs some maintenance. Fairways, tee boxes were ragged and grass around the greens was too long.
Great Time
This was our 1st Camp & play golf course with our Harvest Host membership. Alta Sierra's staff went above & beyond making us feel welcome. From the staff in the pro shop, the maintenance crew (ART) to staff in the snack bar everyone made us feel welcome. We played in the afternoon; weather was perfect & we camped in our RV overnight in the parking lot & used the practice facility before leaving in the afternoon. Again, thank you Alta Sierra, we will return.
Fun Course in pretty good condition
Played this course on Sunday 10/2/22. It was not too busy and it was so nice to not wait on groups on a weekend round.
The course is in excellent all around conditions. My only complaint was the green speeds were much slower than I am used to or expect. If you can get past slow greens. I think this course is a great value
An 86! Good for me. :-)
Greens were recently aerated. Slow and was hard to adjust to this.
Great course for the money.
Only saw the beverage cart once, and regretted not getting mor liquids at the turn. Staff didn’t warn us about the poison oak in the rough; thankfully we knew what it looked like. Fun elevation changes and interaction with water. Lots of wildlife (deer and turkey in the photo of my wife on the 9th tee!).
No carts
This was my second time playing here, staff not too friendly this time, had to wait 45 min to get a golf cart because they ran out. The poor older player behind me had to bag it the first 9 holes due to golf cart shortage..
Great course
Great layout and good pace of play. Friendly staff. Greens were aerated recently but in good shape. Will definitely play again.
18 at Alta Sierra
Course in good shape greens had been plugged recently so it will be 5 stars in a week or so
The greens had been areated recently so the putting was slow and not normal. I love the track. Food and drink accommodations could be improved.
Quiet but real slow
A very beautiful course minus some sanford&son backyards. Real quiet, Deer everywhere. However, no water to drink on course, no cart person, and no one enforcing pace of play. Played by myself, behind a 2 top of very new golfers who didn't know what "play thru" meant.
It took 4 1/2 hours. Usually by myself it takes 3 tops!!!
Everything was perfect. Record finish for two of us in 3:15.
High 90’s temperature but the strategically planted trees provided good shades and some occasional breeze made our game to finish in our record time of 3:15 hours. Wild geese, deers and the birds added some added enjoyment. Bunkers definitely need some sand and the some wet spots in the rough needed mended. Greens were at the right speed. The odometer recorded 74 miles from my house but because we can enjoy the game so much, long distance driving doesn’t stop us driving up to this mountain golf course. This course reminds us the courses we played in Georgia, North Carolina and Florida some 25 years ago.
AG Spanos in Stockton, Whitney Oaks in Roseville, a couple of Reno area golf courses are our favorite courses and Alta is becoming our favorite too. Thanks GolfNow for listing this great mountain golf course.
Love this course but...
Love this course but it could be so much nicer with just a little better course maintenance. Simple stuff like mowing the tee boxes. It's kind of ridicules when the grass on the tee boxes comes up your tee an inch or more. That said, pace of play and the atmosphere here can't be beat. Unless of course you can afford a membership at Winchester. I'll definitely be back soon!
Nice view
I'd like it but they need to have a Marshall to control the pace of play. But overall is a good course and fun to play with lots of nice scenes.
