Overall decent course but.....
I recently played this course as a single and overall, I found the experience to be decent. The layout and pace of play were enjoyable, and it’s clear that the course has good potential. That said, there are a few areas I think are worth addressing to elevate the overall experience—especially considering this is a country club with a dress code and rates that are above the average public course.
Course Conditions:
The greens were noticeably slow, which seemed to be due to a recent punching—likely within the past month—and the grass on the greens was longer than typical, which affected roll and consistency. Additionally, there were several areas on the course showing signs of disease or stress in the turf. I did see maintenance staff actively surveying those areas, so it looks like steps are being taken to address it, which I appreciated.
Amenities and Service:
The biggest drawback during my round came when I made the turn at 9:00 a.m. and wasn’t able to grab any water, snacks, or food. The bar area was severely understaffed—just one overwhelmed waitress handling eight tables and no bartender in sight. As a golfer, especially on a warm day, basic access to refreshments is a necessity.
A simple and practical solution would be to offer a small variety of prepackaged snacks, water, sports drinks, and maybe even grab-and-go options in the pro shop. This would ensure that players making the turn can quickly fuel up and continue the round without disruption. For a club of this caliber, that’s a reasonable expectation.
Driving Range Feedback:
Another minor but notable issue was the inability to use a standard tee on the driving range for driver practice. Having rubber tees or designated tee areas would make warm-up sessions much more functional and convenient.
Final Thoughts:
I want to be fair—I did enjoy the round, and I can see myself playing here again in the future. However, a few key improvements would go a long way. I would also strongly encourage the course to consider offering a military discount. Recognizing those who’ve served is something many courses do as a small but meaningful gesture.
Lastly, I’d hope the club might consider making this experience right—especially as a returning customer who genuinely wants to see the course live up to its full potential.
Alta
Great course but lots of goose poop to get around and the greens weren’t that good
Front 9 twice
They were having a members back 9 tournament so we (random non members) had to play front 9 twice. It became a jam up when starting players ran into playes starting the second nine and pace slowed to a crawl. I left after 15 holes. The pro shop laid the blame on GolfNow because they were unable to communicate with them. This has happed to me before a week earlier at a different course and they blamed GoldNow as well. C’mon people!
Peace
You don't usually associate the word peace with golf. But you can at Alta Sierra each hole has magnificent views. Pace of play was all on me. It was, a peaceful golf outing.
Slow Play, No way to control it by the Marshall
It took 4:45 to play this somewhat short course. We had 2 groups that were together in front of us, young nice men. The problem is the 1st group would wait on the tee box to watch them finish the green. Then 8 of them would be on the next tee box, then the last 3 holes we had to play behind the total 8 some! The Marshall spoke to them but not until he saw them again on the 18th hole, to late! The Marshall tried his best to speed groups up but he said it was just busy, nothing he could do. The course is still not in good condition at best an ok public golf course. We love going there but....it won't be for a while after this terrible round of golf.
Greens bumpy
Greens not recovered from punching
Often got hops on way to hole
Beautiful
I didn’t know what to expect when I came to this course, but I heard it was very nice when I got there the staff was very friendly took me out on the deck showed me around, and I was very pleased at what I found out on the course, it was very well-maintained It was kind of difficult lots of up and downs, which is fun. Your club selection is important on this course and overall I enjoyed it very much and I am definitely going back.
Green frustration
The course for the most part was in great shape, unfortunately they recently punched their greens, so they were quite frustrating!!! GolfNow usually has a notification on the search page about courses punching greens!!?? Had I known about the greens I would’ve probably picked a different course!!
Dallas E Bailey
Fun course
Was a good time. They had a star war theme going which was fun to see. Only complaint was the bottle neck on hole 8. There was like 4 groups of golfers backed up which was wild.
Course in Repair. No Advance Notice.
Great layout. I will be back to play again. The greens were aerated last week and as a result the greens were all sand. This was not disclosed. I paid full price. I believe I should get a credit on my account.
