Expected better
Punched fairways, cart path only on 40% of course, overall the course was in fair to poor condition compared to other courses in area.
Fairway Fair Play
The fairways were in the process of being aerated and the greens where pretty bumpy. Clubs should definitely post thes conditions in advance.
Disappointing conditions for a "country club"
The weather was beautiful for our round, if not a little windy. Upon arriving at the course, my group admired the layout of the holes we could observe from the parking lot, specifically the breathtaking downhill approach to the 9th green. We were very excited to try this course for the first time after reading some glowing reviews here on GolfNow.
Once we got on the course, our opinion of Alta Sierra changed quickly. Fairways were extremely patchy; every approach was hit from bare clay in the fairway for the first 5 holes. Furthermore, the fairways were recently aerated, with no mention of this in the pro shop when we checked in. The greens were very patchy, with large inconsistencies in both grass length/density and green speeds. Putting became a guessing game from hole to hole; putts rolled with the same pace from the same distance would be 6 feet long on one hole and 6 feet short on the next.
Overall, very disappointed. Our local muni is better shape than Alta Sierra. Oh well. At least I had good company and good weather.
PS: Hot Dog at the turn was an F
Love this course!
Favorite course so far! Thank you for maintaining so well! We loved every hole, beautiful setting and pace of play. My only area of improvement would be keep the restaurant/bar open after 4 PM. We would have love to sit on your lovely deck with a beverage after playing.
Great Pine tree lined course
This course is fantastic! It turns and winds through the pines. Some great holes with elevation changes and some great, challenging, yet reachable par 5s. Course is well maintained and the greens were immaculate for this time of year. I would go back again!!
First time playing this course
Great course! A must play. Great scenic views!
Greens are fast going down slope! Watch out. I've played all courses around there, Darkhorse, Auburn valley and the Ridge. This course is up there with em.
Great value
We got out early and enjoyed the wildlife, scenery and beautiful layout. Nice course
Price made it worth it
Course is pretty. Lots of wildlife, but with that comes lots of goose poop. Greens a little fast. Fun morning.
You get what you pay for
The greens fees are a bargain, but that's the only good news. This is an extremely uninteresting layout in generally poor condition, lots of puddles in the fairways (although it hadn't rained in weeks), bare patches, and so so greens. For being in such a scenic area, there isn't much to look at other than modest neighborhood houses. This might be an okay everyday course for locals on a budget, but as an out-of-towner on a buddies golf trip I was very disappointed. There are lots of better options in the vicinity.
Cost
Advertised at $17. Then the fees. $3.00. then $15 for a cart. 15,15,15for a cart?????. Then 2.00 for a bottle of water. So my 17 round cost me $37 which in itself is not bad, but when it started at $17, I probably won't be in hurry to go back. $15 for a cart is just a rip-off. Shannon OHara
Great Course
Very good layout and the course is in good shape. The greens and areas of the fairway are a little soft from all the watering but it beats the alternative. Greens rolled very well though. The only bad thing about the round was the start. I had a 7:28 tee time and the guy in the pro shop didn’t show up until after 7:30. No time to hit balls or getting things set. They did let us tee off first and we finished in under three hours.
A beautiful setting for mountain golf at less than half the price.
Mountain golf may have tough soil conditions that make it hard to have pristine conditions throughout, particularly after the heat of this summer; but this course met all of our expectations. Great weather, challenging, but fair hole design, challenging greens -particularly when it came to the pin placement, beautiful views. I cannot wait to play it a second time.
Enjoyed the layout
Great day on the course early with my bride and the deer, turkeys, and geese.
