Miss Management
Got there early told to wait for assigned tee time. No one teed off for at least 15 minutes. Then a walking 4, a single and 2 seperate two sums. Finally just went ahead to tee with my partner and joined single for a 3 sum. Would have been happier to tee off upon arrival when no one else around. The whole time no names were called as to who was next on tee as I was instructed when I checked in.
Kikuya kills
This is a very nice course, a little narrow with houses all around. My buddy hit about three. But the grass off the fairways is what you have to look out for. I hit a drive on #12 and had to drive back to find it. It dove into the grass and I couldn't get a club on the ball. Very penal if you are off the fairway. The greens were fantastic but the course was a little wet and soggy.
A couple very challenging holes are out there. It's a fun course, just stay in the fairway.
Great greens
Best greens I've played in San Diego, quick and true . Really enjoyed the layout.
My old stomping grounds
I played this course pre El Nino 1996 and post El Nino 1996. I revisited this course for the first time in over 15 years. Back then, the front 9, is now the back and vice versa. I enjoyed playing the old back 9, old #10 (Now the first hole), because NOW the old #1 Par 4 460 hole now #10 plays downwind. Gives the average player some help on the long par 4.
I also enjoyed the rebuilds on hole #13 and on #14. Pre El Nino 1996 those two holes had 2 of the most gnarliest greens you would ever putt. However the El Nino flooded those holes and that portion of the course never recovered.
Great course! Great Layout! Always enjoy playing here. Good food and amenities. Practice facilities are great too.
Will be back soon.
Thankyou
Vert fun but challenging course with equal number of shaping holes. What I mean is that some holes you need to draw and others you need to fade with no discrimination. If you take some chances you can score well but of course the opposite could happen.
Big improvement in last few years
St. Marks has undergone significant improvements in the past couple of years under new ownership. The facilities have been upgraded and the staff is courteous and attentive, unlike past years. I think is a good but not great layout. Course conditions are much improved. The greens are still a bit slow. Golf carts need replacement.
Decent Course with nice views
This course was just ok for me. Although it was in nice shape and had nice views it was a bit too frustrating. The greens were very soggy and we played thru a few holes because it was too muddy. I can hold my own on the long holes and I frequently can get to the green in two shots on a par 4. But most of the long holes here were WAY too long. It took forever to get to the green and I had plenty of nice clean shots to get down there. Just too frustrating for me.
Great Value
Enjoyed myself and paid what I would consider to be a great rate.
Great Value
The course is a really good value in the San Diego area; course was crowded but the pace of play was still good. We definitely play again!
Quagmire
My first impression as I saw the course was very plush and green then I stepped on the course and my impression changes a bit. The beauty of the course was directly related to the moisture content of the soil, a large percentage of the holes fairways were damp to quagmire to pooling water. Mind you I was part of a tournament and must admit the course had a couple tournaments (local members) at the same time which brought into play an overzealous course ambassador that was rude and obnoxious. Additionally, as we stood on one the tee boxes we had to wait for the grounds attendant to pull a hose across the tee box and begin watering the very box that we were standing in.
The course never really dried out, but was green. Some of my team mates enjoyed the course, so did I, let me clarify; the vista beautiful, bar and grill personnel outstanding, course difficulty decent, soil moisture content unsatisfactory, course ambassador customer service horrible, grounds attendant needs golf etiquette training.
Drain system trouble
I played this course when all the rains came, some of the holes were swamps, completely soaked, that was after a week of drying out, I went out on June 3 , got to the second hole, fairway was soaked, we havent had any rains. Over watering issue? Drainage issue? The staff is awesome, but he course has serious issues. The greens were good, as usual.
Great course at a great price!
I played this course for the first time yesterday and was blown away by it. From tee to green the course was in phenomenal shape with some really challenging holes. I cant believe i never payed this course before being i live in San Marcos, but i may of just found a new home course.
Great Value at St Mark
Perfect weather and course for a round at twilight. The course is in good shape from our recent rains and the greens are in excellent shape. The bar and grill has an nice variety of craft beers in draft and the staff is always friendly and courteous.
