The Golden Bear tests you with tabletop fairways at PGA WEST - Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta.
If your shot's too wild, it's rolling up, often down into the desert. That's just one bit of the showmanship at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament course. This was designed to hold a PGA event, but it's spent its days delivering damage and fun to regular hackers.
Nicklaus particularly tests your short game with his bunkering around the greens. Confidence in your wedge shots is crucial here. Still, it's not as tough and unforgiving as Pete Dye's Stadium Course or even Greg Norman's course.
It's possible to get lost in the scenery at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and there's plenty of scenery to go around with the desert brush and the mountains looming in the distance.
No. 15 is probably the most well known - and notorious - hole. Nicknamed "Long Island," it's pretty much that: a daunting 572 yard par five with an island green. The fairway's split, giving you a chance to pick your path. Either way you go, getting onto the green in two is oh but a dream.
"Nicklaus also abundantly uses non-traditional design features throughout the course to give the track its own unique flavor," TravelGolf.com's Jeffrey Rendall said. "In many ways, I don't think I've seen another course quite like it."

Great golf course
We enjoyed playing here…everything was great, starting with the friendly and efficient staff who greeted us upon arrival. Challenging and interesting course,in great condition. Pace of play was excellent. It is expensive, but a memorable golf experience.

Slooowww play
The marshals seemed unable to get the group 3 ahead of us to speed up. 5 hour round, barely got in our 18. Groups behind us, who should have easily got in 18, did not. They need a better system for slow and selfish golfers out there. Perhaps a policy/waiver signed at check-in to give the marshals some power out there. Way too much money to spend on a 5 hour round and to not get in 18.

Beautiful course
Challenging but fun course. Have to keep it in the fairway or in trouble quickly. Course in excellent condition. Highly recommend playing this course if can get a good deal thru Tee Off or Golf Now.

Amazing course
Great spot! Not much to knock on this course. Pace of play is slow, but not as bad as other spots in the area. Fairways and greens are in really good shape. It’s a difficult course, and worth the money.

We were able to get a discounted rate of $89. Would not have played for the standard rate of $300+.. Loved layout and course conditions.

Fine course
I was a little disappointed that the grass off of the fairways was dormant. The only thing bad I could say about the course. Staff is extremely friendly, and helpful. All the tee boxes seemed to match up very well to a golfers cability. Every green was within reach for arriving on the green in regulation. The greens were extremely fast. If you read the green correctly the ball went where it was suppose to. The cost rating was based on a golf now fee. I do not see the value of $400 plus for any time of day. But the area dictates that and a lot of people can afford thatv rate. They had over 500 tee times for all the courses that day..
I would play again without hesitation, for a reasonable price.

Nice 👍! On the expensive side but what ain't these days. Played a 1:30 tee time. Finished 17 out of 18 he's due to darkness. Anything at PGA West is $$$$$. So I don't look to play it twice during my February visits here ( unless a great deal falls in my lap).
