The Golden Bear tests you with tabletop fairways at PGA WEST - Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course in La Quinta.
If your shot's too wild, it's rolling up, often down into the desert. That's just one bit of the showmanship at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament course. This was designed to hold a PGA event, but it's spent its days delivering damage and fun to regular hackers.
Nicklaus particularly tests your short game with his bunkering around the greens. Confidence in your wedge shots is crucial here. Still, it's not as tough and unforgiving as Pete Dye's Stadium Course or even Greg Norman's course.
It's possible to get lost in the scenery at the Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course and there's plenty of scenery to go around with the desert brush and the mountains looming in the distance.
No. 15 is probably the most well known - and notorious - hole. Nicknamed "Long Island," it's pretty much that: a daunting 572 yard par five with an island green. The fairway's split, giving you a chance to pick your path. Either way you go, getting onto the green in two is oh but a dream.
"Nicklaus also abundantly uses non-traditional design features throughout the course to give the track its own unique flavor," TravelGolf.com's Jeffrey Rendall said. "In many ways, I don't think I've seen another course quite like it."

Don’t expect to play 18 holes if you have a tee time after 12pm
We teed off at 12:45 pm on 1/24/2023.
Pace of play for the first 3 holes was very slow and then the ranger ( Steve) showed up and he said the pace would open up and the good news is that we would finish 18 holes before dark.
Well that wasn’t true we got to 15 and played in almost darkness and drove in after that .
Steve or any other ranger was never to be seem after the 3rd hole meeting.
Beware of getting an after 12pm tee time this time of year as it’s very likely you won’t be able to play 18 .

Amazing course only one problem…
Amazing course and facility. They were getting ready for the tournament and cart path only started on the day I played. With a new hip and two bad knees it really took a toll on me. Would definitely play again, I just have to make sure it’s not cart path only.

Amazing conditions but cart path only without notice
The course was perfect and in terrific shape but because of the AMEX tournament, it was cart path only. Of course they knew this in advance but made no mention of it when booking which is unacceptable.

Cart path only
It was cart path only one week ahead of Amex Tournament. Unfortunately this should have been on booking sheet as this resulted in a lot of walking. However course and staff were fantastic. A few of the greens had brown spots but fairways were stunning. Range was small for the number of golfers. Had to wait for a range spot. Will come back to play with carts on course. Should be super enjoyable.

PGA West - Jack Nicklaus Tournament Course
This facility, club house, golf course, and staff is top notch. I recommend this course to anyone that loves a challenge and appreciates a beautifully designed course. The course was in great condition, greens were just about perfect. It is not an easy course, but it is fair and it will test you. I enjoyed it immensely and will play it again,if I can get another deal on Golf Now. I usually play 3 times a week with my wife and I have to look to play less expensive courses.
