Staff
Lonnie was very friendly when I checked in at the pro shop. Very professional as well.
System down
Arrived at 11:40 for 12:04 tee time and was greeted by fairly rude pro shop clerk who said.system was down, hour wait on first tee, literally 10.groups lined up on first tee. No way to finish 18 holes I said, talk to starter was clerks reply. We decided not to play at all as clerk could not find our reservation, not to mention we asked about youth on course and was again rudely turned away
Power was out
When i arrived the power was out. The staff has a battery back up for credit card reader. Kept on rejecting my credit card. Finally went through after six tries. Tee time was at 12:04. Got done around 3:30 with cart. Caught up to players that were slow. Didn't let us play through, which was frustrating. But it was the last three holes
Monterey Pines9
We enjoyed the day at Monterey Pines. The course was fun and the landscaping beautiful.
Only downsides were playing behind 4, slow men and the carts seemed dated and old.
Thanks
Great beginner course
It was a little crowded and the greens were lightning fast. Had a great time
Always good
One of the best maintained lower to mid price courses on the Monterey Peninsula. Only par 69 and 5600 yards but easy to walk and challenging. Always a fun round.
The best value around
Well I have played Monterey Pines now for about 4 months. As an LA transplant into Monterey Peninsula, I looked up courses to play online, and this course is about 1 mile from where I live, but I didn’t even realize it existed until a friend mentioned their 10-play pass which you can buy in advance and save some money.
Once I realized this was literally the closest course to where I live and a great value, I was hooked and now play once a week.
Why is this course a great value?
Well, it’s a Navy course, so they have lots of discounts for military current and retired. While I am not military, the rates are still very attractive. The course is extremely well maintained, plush rough and bent greens that have no poa annum infiltration. To me that is amazing being a California native.
The rates are great for what you receive at Monterey Pines. I think I paid $45 with a cart by booking online for weekday twilight.
Food and drinks are very reasonably priced as well.
Just a great value in my opinion, checks all the boxes for me. I would recommend this course to anyone.
It’s short enough for seniors, but plenty challenging for those more aggressive.
