Goat Hill Park
About
Located in Oceanside, Goat Hill Park originally opened in 1952 as a nine-hole course called Center City Golf Course. It was the first golf course in San Diego County and in the 1980s was designated as protected public land that cannot be developed without a public vote. The course was redesigned in the 1990s into an 18-hole short course and soon became known by locals as "Goat Hill." The course was threatened by development in 2014 but the local community fought the plans at city hall and a new management team led by local residents John Ashworth, David Emerick and Geoff Cunningham assumed management of the golf course. Using volunteer corps of tradesman and citizens along with dedicated staff, they renovated and revitalized Goat Hill to its current state. The course features one par 5 on its par-65 layout and features long views from its perch on a hill. It also has a full driving range, pro shop as well as disc golf interwoven into the layout.

Always fun at the GOAT
They were out of carts on this very busy day so I decided to do my first walk of the goat. Know I would have preferred to lighten my bag up as I wasn't expecting to walk so that took a little out of me, but overall fun and nice to get the exercise.
The 'dump' lives up to it's name.
The staff has no clue of what they are doing. taking reservations w/o golf carts available, not allowing players to walk, terrible pace, allowing 5 players, etc., etc.
Great little course
Played the Goat twice last week for the first time. I had heard a lot of great things about the course and decided it was about time I made my way to Oceanside. I am really glad I finally made my way up there from Cardiff. First impression walking up to the clubhouse is it is the anti-private club. Laid back, reggae music playing, and super friendly staff and players.....as they say, it is blue collar golf. The course is just about the hilliest course I have ever played. The greens are great and the fairways and collars are well manicured. Not sure why some reviews reference the poor condition of the course, I found it to be in pretty darn good shape. That being said, if you hit a bad shot it will be penalized. However, unlike most short courses, you'll hit every club in your bag and will no doubt be challenged. It's a shot makers course so bring your A game.
it's a fun track, the greens are perfect! suggest you play preferred lies in the fairways
Has some challenges.
First time playing this course, heard good and bad about it but we had a great time, challenging and a fun course to play. I recommend it to everyone looking for a nice afternoon of golf.
Fun 3 hour course
Very fun laid back course that is between an executive and a normal course. Think everyone in southern California should golf it at least once.
only goats would enjoy this
One of my least favorite courses in over 50 years of playing golf. Forced carries over ravines with greens perched on the side of hills where missing short or to one side will result in a run off 40 yards down a ravine. Then many of the greens have a severe slope to them toward the ravines. There are several blind tee shots where you are surprised by a ravine run off.
If there is any golf course that should be sold for development, this is the one!!!
Goat hill Review
Very challenging course all because of its uphill and downhills topography
Play the GOAT
Leave pretention and premonition behind, climb to the top of the hill, and forget the golf cart. GOAT HILL is to be enjoyed on foot, zig-zagging the bizarre layout that crams 18 holes into a property that formerly hosted a nine-hole track. This course forces creativity and imagination, precision and accuracy. Longer hitters may be able to overwhelm the GOAT with long drives powered by modern technology, but this course is a throwback and is supremely enjoyable. Leave your metal woods in the trunk and graze on the green grass fairways after striping your mid-iron off the tee. Pay cash for your 18 and still have enough money in your pocket for a beer on the patio after the loop.
Nice hilly golf course in a beautiful setting
If you’re planning to play golf in the Oceanside/Carlsbad area, this course is definitely a nice track frequented by the locals. It’s a short course with plenty of challenges if your ball decides to stray off the tee. Essentially, it’s target golf, but you can still find your poor shots on most holes. We walked it for exercise, but be prepared for long walks up and down steep hills. And use the map on the scorecard to navigate yourself to some of the holes because it can get a bit confusing for first timers. Overall the conditions were decent with very nice greens. A great value for San Diego golf.
more than you think it is
Miss the greens, and you’re in for a long day......look at the yardage, and your pretty sure you should shoot your handicap, or better.....but not easy to do....
But some of the slopes and stances are incredible.....it drives you crazy, but it is fun.
I'm seeing improvment
The past reputation for this course was not good. The last time I played here a couple of years ago, I saw the potential but the conditions were not worth playing. I gave it another shot and the conditions are to the point now where the course is playable. It's not a fancy $75 course but for about $30 its a good value.
Reunion with an Old Friend
Played this course as a teenager and got come back and play it in my 30's. So glad it is still there. Great staff. Great Weather. Great time
