Goat Hill Park
About
Located in Oceanside, Goat Hill Park originally opened in 1952 as a nine-hole course called Center City Golf Course. It was the first golf course in San Diego County and in the 1980s was designated as protected public land that cannot be developed without a public vote. The course was redesigned in the 1990s into an 18-hole short course and soon became known by locals as "Goat Hill." The course was threatened by development in 2014 but the local community fought the plans at city hall and a new management team led by local residents John Ashworth, David Emerick and Geoff Cunningham assumed management of the golf course. Using volunteer corps of tradesman and citizens along with dedicated staff, they renovated and revitalized Goat Hill to its current state. The course features one par 5 on its par-65 layout and features long views from its perch on a hill. It also has a full driving range, pro shop as well as disc golf interwoven into the layout.

Don't take the first tee time if you want to warm up, or have pins on the greens
Hadn't played this course in over 20 years - used to play it a lot as a kid when I lived in Oceanside. Owners have done a nice job revitalizing the greens - they are in much better shape than I remember. Fairways are still spotty, and a lot of the "rough" is actually bare dirt. Price is right.
Still several blind shots and some strange routing that is hard to follow. Course is also popular with disc golfers, so if you get behind a large group of them it could be a slow round. Fortunately we were first off just ahead of a group of 8 disc golfers so it wasn't an issue and we got done in just over 3 hours.
Speaking of first off though - we had a 7:00 tee time but the driving range and the pro shop don't open until 7:00! That doesn't make much sense - you'd think they would open at least 30 minutes before the first tee time. Also we were through hole #3 before someone bothered to put out the pins. That was a source of both amusement and annoyance. #3 especially is a huge double-green. Tough to hit your approach shot when you don't know where the hole is.
Always a great day @ the Goat....
Took my teenage daughter out for her first real round of golf at the Goat... We had a great time....
Fun track just ditch the disc golf.
I've been playing here for years and I do like the improvements they had made. Only thing that hurts this place a little is the disc golf. Disc golfers don't seem to understand rules and think they can just run around all over the place. Otherwise greens were in good shape and the holes are fun and challenging.
Great People Great Golf!
By far the best staff of any golf course I've played! I live forty minutes away but I play Goat Hill 1-2 times a week because it is so lay back, and the course is challenging, the greens are great!
A local treasure...
Not a tough course but challenging... ride.. do not walk... it's called the Goat for a reason..
Loved this course
The staff were very professional and the course was a beautiful link style course that was challenging.
Great Place!
The Staff is the best! The course is challenging, the greens are great! The best part is the lay back attitude and is topped off with a cool Ocean Breeze!! It's worth the 30 minute drive from Dana Point!
Super Fun Sunday
The Goat is a perfect community golf course!!
A place to bring your family, friends and enjoy a round.
People's Park of Oceanside (CA) since 1952
"It's not an executive Course...It's not a Regulation Course...It's a hybrid that is commonly referred to as a Short Course, Par 65.." It has "nine par 4"s, eight par 3's" and "one Par 5" (450 yds.?). "It's a challenging walk." Even a billy goat (hence the nick name that the locals bestowed upon it) would have difficulty walking the course.
There is no yardage markers on the par 4's and par 5. There needs to be better/ more visible directional signage to some of the tee boxes. Most of the greens are elevated, so one needs at least an additional club to reach them.
Accuracy is the key to this course. Once the ball goes off the fairway, the terrain will carry it who knows where.
The fairways are fairly well maintained. The greens are in great condition , but will not hold the approach shots. They putt slower than expected, with breaks difficult to read because of the optical illusions provided by the hilly terrain.
It would take a couple of plays before becoming comfortable with the course.
Will play here again
Nice challaging 3 pars, the owners are doing a good job revitalizing course. Greens in great shape. As they continue to grass around there good fairways I would rate this a 4 star relaxing course to play.
This is got to be one of the most enjoyable and funnest executive golf courses you could ever play definitely great value for the money this course definitely improves your short game
Great course
Local course been playing for years. Challenging but fun
Fun track
Love this place. The people are super cool and its a great track to play with friends and kids. Cool vibe and nice greens.
Goat Hill - Truly a Hidden Treasure!!
We had played this couse many years ago. This is not the old Goat Hill!! The couse has been been marvelouly redone and in great shape. Make no mistake the challenges of the ravines and elevation are still here but the improvements in tee placements and excellent greens make this a great and challenging couse!
Had a chance to meet the manager and staff and everyone is very helpful and friendly. They provide a helpful guide on aiming and best spot to land your shots. Use it!
Driving range, outdoor patio and beverages are all appreciated.
We will return soon!
Great greens but lots of carries
A number of the holes have forced carries and makes it difficult for average golfer. Fine for me but tough for someone who does not carry the ball a reasonable distance. Ran in to others looking for their next hole. More signs would help. Great greens and the best staff around. Practice area was busy and looked in good shape.
