Goat Hill Park
About
Located in Oceanside, Goat Hill Park originally opened in 1952 as a nine-hole course called Center City Golf Course. It was the first golf course in San Diego County and in the 1980s was designated as protected public land that cannot be developed without a public vote. The course was redesigned in the 1990s into an 18-hole short course and soon became known by locals as "Goat Hill." The course was threatened by development in 2014 but the local community fought the plans at city hall and a new management team led by local residents John Ashworth, David Emerick and Geoff Cunningham assumed management of the golf course. Using volunteer corps of tradesman and citizens along with dedicated staff, they renovated and revitalized Goat Hill to its current state. The course features one par 5 on its par-65 layout and features long views from its perch on a hill. It also has a full driving range, pro shop as well as disc golf interwoven into the layout.

Great Valentine's Gift
Playing at the newly reopened Goat Hill was a Valentine's gift par excellence! Can't wait to get out there again, and not waiting for another Valentine's Day to do so!
You need to put The Goat on your rotation
The revision of Goat Hill Park needs to be walked to be appreciated. You can't really compare this golf experience with other country club courses. Be sure to make time to hang out at the club house, have beer, and watch golf at the end of your round. Now, is it Torrey Pines? No. But it is unique, and you need to come out and see what they've done with the place.
Awesome! We totally agree, we are creating a community hang out to bring all of us closer together. We are excited to open back up on Feb 5th and see all our local golfers. We appreciate the kind words and excited for the new season ahead of us!
Sculpture in Progress
Lot's of clever, creative renovation going on here. The property is literally being sculpted into a course that will make Oceanside proud and golfers happy.
5 stars , not for what it is, but for what it is becoming.
We are so excited to open up on Feb 5th, come out and see us! Thanks so much for anticipating this moment with us.
Course should close until renovation completed
This course is under a major renovation and is almost entirely torn apart and mostly dry dirt. We were told to play 9 holes twice as follows: 10, 12, 4, 6, 7, 14, 5 and so on. No markers as to which direction to go. Needless to say we quite after 4 holes. This course should not be open for play until renovation completed. It's a disaster. I would not recommend this course.
Not a great course
First, i had to start on the back 9 because their course signs werent updated.
Secondly, the course is so torn up by construction that atleast 60% of the course is covered by dirt or some type of machinary
I wouldnt reccommend this course to anyone who is looking to enjoy a fun and relaxing experience
not bad for the price
This course has been getting some much needed maintenance. The greens are always nice and the staff is working hard on the fairway grass. This course is in better shape now than it has been in a long time. The staff is always friendly but the groundskeepers will keep working if you're hitting your ball towards them, just give them a heads up and play on... Well worth the money
Showing progress
Course is slowing getting better, since I am a horrible golfer I am not the right person to pass out grades.
Improving but more needed
I played this course about 4 years ago and vowed never to play it again. It was in terrible shape, full of gopher holes, little grass, and poor greens.
After hearing a change in ownership happened and they were fixing it up I decided to check it out. They have made great improvements from years ago. The greens are in pretty good shape, some of the fairways look like fairways but some still need a lot of work.
Perhaps in another year they will get it all together. If you're looking for a nice lie on every fairway this is not the place for you. If you want to be challenged by small greens and changes in elevations and don't mind having to place your ball often then is will work.
My only real beef was the quality of the cart paths. There are full of potholes.
Improving everyday
Course is getting better everyday. New staff/owners are getting this course back to where it should be.
You need accuracy with narrow fairways and constantly changing distances and elevations. Fun course to test your game.
Will play it again soon!
Interesting Course
Fun Challenging Course -- Must be able to drive WELL!! Challenging and fun. Not good for Whiners!!
Much Improved!
The greens absolutely have improved so much compared from the last time I played, good work, keep it up. Thanks.
Hi Ciriaco9751501,
Thank you so much for taking the time to review Goat Hill! We are so glad that you've noticed the improvements on the course. Our team has been working tirelessly, so your acknowledgement is much appreciated. We look forward to seeing you back!
Goat Hill Park Management
What A Difference 6 Months Makes
I was very critical of this course in a prior review, but when I played "The Goat" the other day for the first time in a while, I was delighted with the progress the new management has made toward improving this place. If it's your first time playing there, you might not appreciate how much better this course is getting, but if you've experienced it any time in the last 6 or 7 years, I'm sure you'll be as impressed as I was.
It seems prices went up a little, and does still have a way to go, but it's charm and quirkiness is a lot easier to appreciate and enjoy when more of the tee boxes are nice and there's some grass in more of the landing areas. And the clubhouse remodel makes it a comfortable place to stick around and relax on the patio after you've survived your round.
If your looking for that highly groomed country club feel, this probably won't be your course. But, if your tired of fairways lined with houses and every other hole looking pretty much the same, and instead want to be challenged with a completely different look pretty much every shot, then you might want to go play a round at Goat Hill Park (formerly Center City). I'm betting you'll discover why the likes of John Ashworth took such an interest in this fun and unique local course.
Great Deal
Great Course - lots of fun. Glad to see they are upgrading
Great History.....
Read about the history of the course before I booked on Golf Now. It was what my wife and I expected. Young lady at the pro shop was great at explaining what we we had ahead of us. About half of the holes were in pretty good shape...the others not so much. For what we paid it was still a great deal and a lot of fun. It might be a bit difficult for a beginner as you need to keep your ball in play. Did I mention we were given a free bucket of balls since it was our first time playing the course. You need to take a power (electric!) cart because of elevation changes. Good luck to the people who are working hard to keep this course open.
Poor at this time but possibly will be okay in the future.
Course was in terrible shape and it was cart path only. We knew that it was recently purchased and would not be in top shape but worse than expected. Holes were not marked very well and had no idea where to go. We had 5 guys, who were EXTREMELY RUDE, jump in front of us on the back 9 on hole 11 I believe. We were held up by a couple in front of us and they finally let us through and then let the other guys through and they decided to jump in front of us accusing us of being slow. We finally left after this incident occurred. The staff was very nice about trying to compensate us. I would not recommend this course at this time.
Historic
Has historic value but still needs lots of work. Greens were bad. Layout routing is confusing. No landing areas on par 4's due to severe slopes. Didn't like disc golfers sharing the course.
The steadily improving Goat
You can see the progress they're making at Goat Hill. Play there for what it is. An inexpensive way to work on your game, and get out with friends. No, the fairways don't always have grass, so, move your ball. We got through 18 in 2.5 hours, as a pair. You can see where the greens will be better by next summer, and the grass is filling in elsewhere. Hats off to the new owners. I like playing all sorts of courses, from Torrey to The Goat. Just take this course for what it is. Good fun.
A work in progress
They look to be working hard to upgrade and repair this course.
terrible course overall
This was the worst golf courses I've been to. The upkeep was horrible and just the overall build of the course was unsatisfactory. Would highly suggest paying a few extra bucks to go somewhere else.
Do not waste your time
This course is "one big hazard". The fairways are non-existent. They are literally - DIRT. And hilly dirt. Try hitting golf balls off that!
The woman working there was very nice. But, that does not make up for the fact that this course should, in no way, be OPEN.
While one understands the need to do major improvements.. being open for golf is ludicrous.
That's great news! Glad we will be able to see you at here for more real soon. Thanks so much for spending your Valentine's day here at Goat Hill Park. We are happy to hear you loved it!
