Course was in decent shape.
This is a decent course. Good layout. Fairways and greens were in good shape for being a public course. However, it is a bit pricey in comparison to other public courses in the area.
Sharp Park Golf
The fairways are rough, no mowing or grooming. The greens are in good shape and if some effort was put into fairways it would've been worth the money. The sand traps should be called dirt traps. The new carts are a pleasant surprise however.
Playable course
Sharp is a pleasant course with wide open drives . The first 9 holes are wind sheltered but the last 9 holes less . On windy days the last four holes are hard to play due to wind .
Overall course well maintained . And the location with vistas and views very pleasing . Take a break and you can walk along the ocean .
The last 9 holes are in a nature Reserve.
Facilitaties from the 1930’s : but with good up keep.
Beautiful but wet
The fairways were long due to lack of mowing due to rainy weather. If they are mowed and not swampish the course would be awesome!! Waiting for a sunny day.
Review
It was the new experience in the worst wet field condition. I gave up completing the rounding on the 12nd hole since I was exgausted with wet ground condition's walking. Even the ball on the fairway used to be disappeared into the wet ground on the 4th hole. If somebody would to have the worst field condition and patience, he/she might make a booking in this golf course.
Unplayable holes
Course was extremely wet and unplayable in several spots. Haven’t played in the area before so not sure if this is normal. Greens were in very good condition an d I thought the layout was very good. Club house is in terrible condition.
A modest course
I played Sharp Park Golf Course by chance. I was in the area for work and wanted to squeeze a few holes in.
Sharp Park had available tee times and given the area, at a very reasonable price.
The clubhouse has history and is unpretentious with friendly staff but overdue a lick of paint.
To be frank, conditions weren't great but good enough for a practice round and beginner golfers.
Some pretty holes but also waterlogged fairways.
For the price, I would recommend.
City course that gets no funding
Course layout is great. Too bad city does nothing to improve drainage issue. Always muddy unless it’s during summer time with no rain.
Course
Course was saturated with water the greens were aerated
There isn’t a ball washer on the course. To me it’s not worth $60 plus $25 for the cart to play
Too much water in fairways
This course shouldn’t be charging when it rains. I was losing ball after ball in the middle of the fairway to large puddles and swampy areas that make walking a pain as well. The course should have been closed due to weather and lack of maintenance.
Halcyon days are long gone
I am a Bay Area resident and this course has been on my to-do list for a while. I finally got the opportunity to play it with my wife on Christmas Day. We weren’t paired with anyone and mostly played at our own, relatively quick pace until we slowed down on the back nine. The weather was great for December, but the course was very wet, which required picking the ball cleanly to avoid a swampy, chunky disaster. The guys who checked us in were lovely. The restaurant was closed, because it was Christmas Day, so no comment on that. The greens were pretty beat up. One green, forgot which, was unplayable. Although the course has been altered significantly since Alister MacKenzie designed it, it still has more than the ghost of the original design. Getting to play a (partial) MacKenzie course for a GolfNow hot deal rate is still an amazing deal. Would I play it again? Probably not given the other options, but I’m still glad I had the opportunity.
Below average course with lots of potential
Pros:
In an absolute beautiful location with glimpses of the ocean throughout
Very walkable
Super easy course with a fun layout
Cons:
Terrible condition (greens were in horrible condition and the fairway had very little grass)
Extremely slow
Lots of beginners and drunk people slowing the game down
Overall:
While a fun course with an interesting layout, the overall condition and pace of play completely ruined the round. Impossible to have a good time when putting on dirt, while waiting 5-10 minutes between shots. I’m glad I played here, but I would never come back again
