My son at the 18th hole! Photo submitted by Hassellcari on 08/24/2013
Close this course please
HORRIBLE shape for a golf course.
How was it sopping wet around the greens when it hasn’t rained in weeks?
Fairways were bone dry and the rough was just crab grass.
Honestly they should sell this course and let someone else rebuild/invest it in.
Will not play again.
Seeing was believing
The staff was very friendly. They have a nice restaurant but it wasn't operational.. decent sized pro shop,. But it was understocked.. the course is unfortunately as bad as the reviews stay. Decent lay out, back 9 much better than front.. this place can be really nice with proper upkeep of facilities and course. I won't be back
Overall decent place to play a round, but majority of tee boxes were hard as a rock and greens are pretty patchy. Most of the layouts of the course holes were fun to play. Wouldn’t play the course again unless with some friends. Would recommend for beginners to just to try it out, but need a good deal on a weekday instead of weekend. 3/5 course
Needs better grooming
Great layout. No sand in traps, no cuts around greens and they are long!!!! Clumps of grass as if they mow rough, tees, and aprons weekly. Played solo in 2 hours even. If that is your goal, it can be done
In Bad Shape
Fairways, greens and secondary cuts were all overgrown. I lost numerous balls that landed in plain sight. On top of the greens being overgrown, there was a lot of disease. I normally don’t take the time out to do this, but they should be ashamed of that course.
Disappointed
I've played this course maybe a dozen times over 10+ years. This was the worse greens conditions I've seen. Also several tee boxes were bare and/or you needed a hammer to get a tee in the ground. Not sure what's going on at the course, but I'll more than likely not play there again until conditions improve.
Poorly maintained gem
From the first tea to the last hole, you can tell this course was once very nice, but it is not being taken care of. Greens are shaggy and have weeds in them and many bare spots. There is no dirst cut around the greens, it’s 4 inches of crab grass and then the green. Played in two hours and five minutes because no one was there.. I wanted to play a quick round and I got that. Picked up after one pot because there was no sense in even trying..
Bad condition and greens are terrible
Not worth the 30 minutes I drove to play. Grass was uncut one hole should have been a marsh area 90 yards from green, was so over grown look more like a swamp area with tall trees
Do not play this golf course
This is the worst course I've played in my entire life.
What Happened
Not sure if Spivey has new management or not but man… for starters the clubhouse looks horrible and there are hardly any items available for purchase such as tees , balls, or gloves. The course is entirely overgrown and unplayable , but worst of all the greens were like playing on Plymouth Rock. We left after hole 5 as conditions were just no where near playable.
Course has good bones but run EXTREMELY poorly
Course layout is great and challenging. Pace of play is horrendous and not enforced by course marshalls. After 50 mins, was only able to get through 2 holes. The rough right next to the fairway is lined with 8 inch+ blades of grass and weeds. Good luck finding your ball even if you hit a perfect tee shot. Greens were also filled with weeds, unfixed pitch marks, divots, and sand. Greens keeper literally rolled up to a par 3 (driving on the green), in the middle of us teeing off to turn on the sprinklers for the green. When asking the guy to turn off the sprinkler because we are literally in the middle of the hole, he just looked confused and unresponsive. Finally turned off the sprinkler and drove right back over the green to go turn on sprinklers on other holes while people are playing. For a course with so much promise, this place needs serious work and a re-evaluation of staff
Note: I’m not one to leave bad reviews normally, but this course was my worst experience in 2+ years of golfing.
Avoid of possible
I grew up playing this course and it has fallen so very far. Some of the worst conditions I’ve ever seen and it just seems like there is no intention to improve the course. Range was in awful shape as well and range balls felt like I was hitting rocks they pulled out of the pond. At the very least let the county buy it and try to do something with it…. Will not be playing again in the future.
