San Juan Hills Golf Club
About
Tucked away in the hills of San Juan Capistrano, San Juan Golf Course is situated midway between Los Angeles and San Diego. Its location is conveniently close to Legoland, Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo, and miles of sandy beaches. The championship golf course underwent a major renovation of its fairways and greens, making them some of the best in south Orange County. The layout consists of a diverse array of holes that range in length from short to long and some are hilly while others are flatter. Being a public golf course and having a versatile layout, San Juan G.C. is a popular place for tournaments and events. At either end of the course there are practice facilities as well. On the west side you'll find a putting green and sand bunker as well as a chipping area, and on the other end you'll find a grass driving range.

Challenging course, good value
The course is in pretty good shape given the water situation. Fairways are a little rough in areas but the greens are in good shape. Too bad more golfers don't fix their divots and ball marks because the greens would even be nicer.
Pace wasn't too bad for a Sunday afternoon. About 5 hours....
can't get enough of this course
i played here last week and played a decent round, but told myself i had to comeback today and play better, this time played a little earlier and the course was in great shape, greens were firm and fast, fairways were good. definetely going to be my go to course
awesome course
amazing lay out played at 3:30 in the afternoon pace was slow but finished on time before sun down. greens are well maintained the bunkers are so hard to get out off.
Thank you for sharing your experience and we look forward to having you back.
Great course!!!
We will return to play again many times! Greens were tough!! Loved it!!
Thank you for your feedback! We look forward to having you and your group back in the near future.

Pleasantly Suprised
I have always wanted to try San Juan Hills, but the reviews were not complimentary. Through a good deal at Golfnow I gave it a try. Both the gentleman in the golf shop and the starter could not have been more accommodating. I was paired with two nice gentlemen who were about the same skill, so it was a great round. The course was in good condition, considering the drought. The greens had been plugged, but still ran true. We teed off at !:00PM and finished at 5:15.
I will go back.
We appreciate your feedback, and are glad to hear that you had a satisfactory experience. We look forward to seeing your group out at San Juan Hills for your next round!
Review from 4-22
The staff was great.
The greens were recovering from being punched so that was a challenge. Some of the fairways could use a good watering and better attention
We are happy to hear that you and your group had a fun time, and we appreciate your understanding of our spring maintenance. Greens are now rolling true!
Thanks Rob

Challenging and Fun.
Played with my Son and we both had a great time. The staff was very nice and we were paired with a pair of fun gentlemen. The course had some challenging holes specially when you got on the green. The pace of play was good enough (about 4 hours). My Son had such a great time that he started playing and practicing more golf in the last week. And that from a kid that has a full load with school and playing high school sports (Baseball at this time).
Glad that you and your son had a great day together and that your son is starting to play more. With your busy schedules our lighted range is always available for you to come hit balls. Fairway's and Greens...
Great Round
The front 9 were excellent and the back 9 were good. Fairways were consistent, greens sped up as the day progressed, all breaks were towards the hills... Weird I know. Staff and amenities were excellent. Great people at SJH. This is my new home course - woot woot
Thank you for your feedback! We are happy to hear that you and your group had a satisfactory experience here at San Juan Hills.

Beautiful California course
I hadn't played the course in 16 years and really enjoyed the maturity of the course. The "New" holes were very impressive.. We played with a father & son who knew the course well and thoroughly enjoyed the day. Pace of play was not great.
EACH HOLE ON THIS TRACK HAS ITS OWN UNIQUE SET-UP, WHICH MAKES FOR EXTREMELY FUN PLAY.
I LIVE FAIRLY CLOSE TO SAN JUAN HILLS, SO YES AS AN AVID GOLFER I TEND TO PLAY HERE CONSISTENTLY. FOR A FEW DIFFERENT REASONS. AWESOME LAYOUT,
FAST GREENS, 4 HR AVE ROUNDS, AWESOME STAFF AND I NEVER GET BORED OF THIS TRACK, CHALLENGING FROM TIPS FOR THE PLAYERS,
IF PASSING THROUGH THE AREA, ITS A MUST PLAY!
CHEERS!!
We truly appreciate your feedback. Thank you for playing San Juan Hills and we look forward to having you and your group back soon

The Hills are calling
Played San Juan Hills today with my regular group. We teed off at 8:08 and finished at 12:25. The course was in excellent shape considering it is a public course that has a large loyal following. The layout is traditional in that the greens are usually elevate, well guarded by large daunting bunkers and the greens are undulating. The SJH greens have been consistently superior the entire winter and now that SoCal has finally gotten some meaningful rain I expect they will continue to first rate. One of the best attractions the course offers is the pro shop personnel, specially Mr. Ray! In summary, if you want to spend an enjoyable day. playing golf, give San Juan Hills a try, you won't regret it.
Great way to celebrate St. Patrick' day
A wonderful day on the course.
The greens are toip class and the course is a challenge
San Juan Hills
Played the Blues (6317/70.5/127) using Forelinx in 4H, 50M. Course was busy/backed up, the POP was slowed by CPO a day after rain. Played as a 4some with Val, Adam & Kyle, all very fun/nice guys to play with. The weather was partly cloudy and a little breezy in the 70's.
Most tees were fairly lush, but several could use leveling. The par 3 tees were chewed up with the soft, moist turf conditions.
The kikuyu fairways were winter thin with somewhat spotty coverage. There were many clearly defined GUR spots that were bare spots, often dozens of these per fairway.
The kikuyu rough had decent coverage for a grass and weed mixture in the winter. Not overly long but can still be penal because it's kikuyu.
The traps were decently maintained with dark brown sand/dirt that was okay to play from.
The greens looked like a bent/poa annua mixture. Fairly smooth, softer after the rains, they held approach shots great and putted medium fast. A few had some bare areas around the outside edges. These greens have a deceptive amount of break on them, no tiers, no huge slopes, but you get a putt over 20' and you are probably playing it way outside the hole.
Par 71, somewhat quirky layout. Some 90 degree doglegs and some holes with fairly severe elevation changes. Hilly, tight but a fun course overall. Good customer service, quick efficient check-in & the starter was trying to keep things moving on-time. The Player Assistant was out patrolling & the beverage cart was out and making the rounds several times. The GPS on carts is to the front, middle and back of the green only. This would be very challenging course to walk, up/down hills and it cuts through tunnels several times as it meanders trough residential areas. Recommended = Yes, good mid level alternative and a fun, quirky, hilly layout.
We are considering playing here on Friday. Hopefully the course takes the advice and gets a Marshall to keep the pace of play.

Played the Blues (6317/70.5/127) using Forelinx in 4H, 50M. Played as a 4some with Mark, Jeff & 140ver. Thanks for lunch & meeting up Mike! The weather was clear & a little breezy in the 70's. Par 71, somewhat quirky layout. Some 90 degree doglegs and some holes with fairly severe elevation changes. Hilly, tight but a fun course overall. Most tees were fairly lush, but several could use leveling. Excellent job by the greens staff of maintaining the old divots, almost all were already filled in. The kikuyu fairways were winter thin with decent coverage. However, there were many clearly defined GUR spots that were usually bare spots. At best average. The kikuyu rough had decent coverage for a grass and weed mixture in the winter. Not overly long but can still be penal because it's kikuyu. The traps were decently maintained with good sand but had inconsistent depths. The greens looked like a bent/poa annua mixture. Fairly smooth, not overly firm but medium fast & held approach shots well. A few had some bare areas around the outside edges. However, they were decent overall and putted better than they looked. Good customer service, quick efficient check-in and the Player Assistant was out patrolling. The beverage cart was out and making the rounds several times. Recommended = Yes if you want to be challenged by a quirky/hilly layout.
Whole lot of fun
Great course.good for the money.lits of fun
Great time, amazing value
Played in morning and finished in less then 4 hours. Greens are best in area and the layout is a lot of fun. Best sports bar and food of any course I have ever played. No better value in southern California. Will be back.
Canadian golfing in January
The course was in very nice condition overall.
My wife and I golfed with Mike and Bob, two friendly locals who helped make the day very enjoyable.
Although it was short in length from the whites the bunkers around the greens made scoring well a challenge. All in all a great day and great value.
Challenging Course at a Great Price!
Love playing SJH but it did take over 5 hours to play yesterday! The fairways need some work but it is always fun to play especially fora GOLF NOW Hot rate at $16 a round with cart for 18 holes!
We appreciate your feedback, and are happy to hear that you had a satisfactory round! We can not thank you enough for your loyalty to San Juan Hills GC!
