Santa Barbara Golf Club

My friend I chose to drive 30 miles to the Santa Barbara Golf Club, as they offered golf carts during the this time of Covid. We paid for carts on Golfnow, then showed up and did not get one. We were told there were not enough carts available, so had to walk 4 hours up and down hills with a bad foot. Instead of a refund, we were given a waiver on a golf cart for the future. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that we would have a cart available to us if we were to play again. Needless to say, we would not have driven 60 minutes round trip and paid the money if we knew that a cart was not guaranteed. We understand that there are more important things going on in the world right now, but this was very frustrating to us.

Early March and the course played almost like it did when I was here last summer! Neatly mowed fairways and light rough are not normal for this time of year, but I'll take it. The only drawbacks to a wonderful day on the course were the recently aerated greens. But I can't say that I wasn't warned, it was noted on their GolfNow link.

One other bonus was the lack of foursomes this afternoon (probably due to the greens) which led to a sub four hour round!

Visiting from out of town and thought it was a fun course and in great condition. But it would have been nice to know that they were punching the greens on the back side and could only play the front nine before we booked our round.

Beautiful day, course was in great shape & greens were as nice as I’ve ever seen them. Same goes for the sand traps, they looked freshly cut and new sand (luckily only found myself in there once). My hat is off to the grounds crew, great job!

We were playing a two hour front 9, and the ranger came up and accused us of driving across the fairway and playing slow, none of which we were doing.

Course in good winter shape, pretty dry.Only downside the ninth hole still has a temp green till Jan.

Good muni course for the money. Back nine tougher than the front. Course plays longer than the scorecard. No pushover.

You are not going to find many municipal courses as well kept and challenging as this one. Especially for the price. And lots of improvements have been made including new traps with white sand and a new green on #9. Don’t let the 5900 yards fool you. It pays to hit the fairways with all the trees on the course. Some rolling hills present challenging second and third shots to the greens that can have tough pin placements. Great staff in the Pro Shop that has all the supplies you need to play. Mulligans’s Cafe has delicious food and a reputation that brings non-golfers to enjoy a meal. Hope to see you there.

A great public course. Always fun. The greens had been punched recently and were a bit bumpy. We still had a great day. Course was in great shape otherwise.
