This course has matured well!

The course has used undulating greens, and tree lined fairways to protect it.

Beautiful setting

Really enjoy this course. Nice layout, pretty flat and easy to walk, trees line fairways (this is both good and bad!), I think the course is more challenging than its rating, price is right.

Nice course and location

Mostly enjoyable day of play but very slow group ahead forced play to over five hours! Course was in good condition in a park like setting with wildlife. I'll do it again.

Gofling in the Rain

I forgot to print out my golfnow.com tee time reservation confirmation, the staff was nice enough to accept the email that I received; they asked that we bring a printout next time because that is how they keep track of bookings through golfnow and whether or not they want to keep their deal going.

My friend and I were put in with a father and son, we had a great time golfing even with the occassional drizzle and mist that came down on us.

There are quiet a few dog legs that can present some tough challeneges if you hook and slice. If you don't like trees stay away, there isn't a single hole surrounded by them; practice your punch shot. The greens were clean and the holes were placed in difficult places that presented good challenges; acording to my friend they had moved the holes on the green from a previous time that he had played.

Great value for a round of golf, would recommend it if you're looking to get out and not put a hole in your pocket.

The course was set among trees and is simply beautiful.

You'll be glad you played this course. The scenery is stunning throughout. The course was in great shape and the staff is very laid back and friendly. Pace of play was a little slow, but not so much that I was bothered.

Simply...great value!

Golf course was in fantastic condition, not overly expensive, very nice driving range, super friendly/helpful staff! Some narrow, mature tree-lined fairways definitely reward a straight driver of the ball. Great hole layout, with generous-size greens. Many pins were tucked in the corners, behind greenside bunkers...which made for risk/reward aiming straight at pins. Logical hole layout made for an easy walking course, too. All golf courses should be/operate like this one! On second thought, don't come here...I want this place all to myself!!!

Great course to play but slow!

The course is in great shape and well maintained both fairways and greens. The course is challenging but not punitive. The fairways on the front nine are narrow but the back nine opens up. The course is well worth playing and fun. However, on a Friday it took well over 5 hours to play! This is way too slow.

really nice muni, but...

...the BIG BUTT for this course is pace of play!! So slow. We played on a week day and it still took us almost three hours to play nine...I had to quit on the back nine after 5.5 hours out there.

Great Course.

For a municipal course, this course is amazingly maintained. It easily compares to private courses costing much more. On the front 9, some of the fairways are rather narrow and lined with trees, so driving straight is very important. The back nine, while still challenging, features more room on the fairways. Bunkers and trees often come into play. The greens are fairly large and in fantastic shape.

Friendly staff. Best value around.

Beautiful course, and very friendly staff. Pace of play is good, better than other courses. Don't go late, usually there are tournaments. Stay straight, lots of trees.

Great Value

Bennet Valley is in great shape. The greens are running well, but not so fast as to be intimidating. The cost was excellent for the area (I recommend looking for the prepaid deal).

Very nice for a municipal course

The Bennett Valley Golf Course is one of the better maintained public courses in Sonoma County - made even more impressive by the fact that it's a city-owned municipal course. The layout is moderately challenging with enough variation to keep things interesting but there are quite a few "just hit it straight" par fours that look like a bowling alley on the tee. One thing to note: the course is laid out long (6,200 yds from the whites) so playing from the white tees here is almost as long as playing from the blues on other nearby courses.

The maintenance is just incredible - fairways are always in great shape, greens are well groomed and run true and, most surprising for a muni, the bunkers are well drained so they're soft and fluffy. Except for the deep of winter when it's been raining heavily, the course is well drained and playable nearly year round.

If there's one complaint, it's that BVGC isn't a secret. Everyone knows how good the course is (and how affordable) so the weekends are very busy. The pace is pretty slow on weekends as the course is full of inexperienced players weilding monster slices so heads-up when you're playing on an adjacent fairway!

Slow, but awesome for municipal

Pace of play was a little slow, but was about par for a publicly available course. I will say that although this course is a municipal course maintained by the city, it is one of the most well maintained courses i have ever played. The greens are smooth, fairways well groomed, and no rough that would simply hide your ball. The thin tree-lined fairways are pretty challenging, but well worth the money. It's no pebble beach, but fantastic for a public course.
