About
Castle Oaks Golf Club is situated on the historic Preston Farmlands. The Preston Castle, built in 1894 overlooks the rolling, oak-studded hills of the course. The course opened a century later but it blends in beautifully with the existing terrain, utilizing the Sutter and Mule Creeks and mature trees as natural hazards. When the golf course opened it was acclaimed as the best public course in northern California and it has remained one of the area's premier courses. The layout has an interesting mix of holes with some that are wide and forgiving and others that are narrow and play alongside environmental hazards. The meandering creeks and several lakes come into play throughout. There are many risk/reward opportunities and golfers will encounter several hazards and out-of-bounds off the tee, but overall the course is player-friendly enough to appeal to any skill level.

First time play
Heard of this course long time ago but finally get a chance to try it. Staffs were very friendly and It was nice able to tee up with another gentleman who is a regular player at Castle Oak. Overall the course condition was good but greens are a bit bumpy and have lots of divots spots. I did my part to repair as much as I can see because I believe if you take care of the course, the course will take care of your game. I will definitely be back in the near future to play again since now I knew the layout of this course!

What Wind?
Yes it was a windy day for golf but better than doing yard work! I was striking the ball well this day but my putter let me down. Maybe it was the greens were a little bumpy? No excuses darned! Always a joy but a challenging course especially on a windy day as a senior having to swing a bit faster?

Don't Go to Castle Oaks
For the third time in the last few months, I had to play behind five somes. This time was even worse. We were put out as a twosome, 20 minutes early behind club cronies playing a skins game. We were behind two 5 somes and two foursomes so nowhere to go.
I complained as I had before and said if you don't want outsiders playing here don't offer tee times. I will not be back. Too bad because it is a fun drive and tricky course. Too bad they don't care about the general public and kowtow to the local cliques.

This one’s a winner
Castle oaks G C is great because of it’s layout, the upkeep of public area but mostly due to participating with GolfNow website making it much more affordable for us senior citizens.

Beautiful course
Course is in great condition considering it’s the end of summer. Greens have some funky spots but overall good & Lightning fast. Staff is always courteous & helpful. Food & drinks in the clubhouse is delicious!

This course is challenging and has some of the best greens that I’ve seen in this area
Y’all better keep it on the fairway or you’re going to get lost play smart at this course to keep your score low and always go with the safer shot

Rude pro shop staff.
Following the skins game was a horrible experience I have had ever. 2 fivesome groups dragged the pace and the marshals could care less. The pro shop staff was quite bossy and even rude. He seemed to be annoyed by Golf Now customers.
The greens were fast some holes and then slowed at others. Some damaged greens were not repaired. Water ponds and lakes stinky, spreading strong orders. Ducks roaming around freely on the fairways and even on some greens. There was no evidence of taking care of the greens, cart paths and fairways. No maintenance crews anywhere to be seen. Such a beautiful weather and the course were spoiled so badly on one day. Too bad!!!

One of my favorite courses. Love the layout and always well maintained. I wanted to give a bad review so it would discourage more golfers from playing it. But I can’t. Challenging but fair and a lot of interesting holes. Can’t wait to play there again.

Pairing
I was sent with a group of High School kids who were not following proper golf etiquette and hitting multiple balls. I was a single and usually enjoy meeting new people but this group was not a joy to golf with.
